Ladera in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

There is no fourth wall in villas at Ladera – instead, there is the jaw-dropping backdrop of the Pitons, two mountainous volcanic spires that attract adventure-seekers from across the world. A faint tropical breeze wafts from the Caribbean Sea far below through netting on a four-poster bed carved from polished tropical hardwood. Incentive to leave your room can be found in chef Nigel Mitchel's creative interpretation of traditional island fare – try the roast conch served with organic vegetables from the neighboring plantation.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. Walk among them on lush grounds that used to be a cocoa plantation. Float under the cascading waterfall of your private plunge pool, watching parrots and orioles drifting on air currents over the treetops. Sip sweet potato and coconut soup at the clifftop open-air restaurant. Watch the stars create an unobstructed canopy over the ocean, spotting constellations on your suite's star chart.

I have been meaning to write this review for sometime now! My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon, and it was truly a honeymoon of dreams! When we arrived the weather was a little gloomy and drizzly, but we were greeted with drinks and big smiles, and taken to our room... when we walked into our room (Rainbow Suite) and saw the view, I instantly welled up. It was stunning. Pictures can't do the views justice, and the traditional Caribbean decor of the room was picture perfect. Some people may be put off by the idea of 3 walls, but honestly this is what made our honeymoon so unique and special! Waking up in your bed to see the sunrise over the sea, I honestly felt like I was in heaven. Location-wise, you need to get cabs to most tourist destinations on the island, which worked fine for us. All our taxi drivers were very friendly and informative, we visited the mud baths and did the Hotel Chocolat 'chocolate making' course. We also walked on two evenings to the Hotel Chocolat restaurant to dine, as the food was so good! Plus it's the only restaurant we found within walking distance of the hotel. The food at the hotel was good. breakfast was very fresh (it's really the views that make breakfast though!). Evening meals were hit and miss really, and extremely expensive. The atmosphere was always lovely though, and as I say we ate dinner elsewhere for 2 nights to mix it up. Overall, this hotel is one-in-a-million for it's views and authenticity, we will be back that's for sure.

My husband and I recently visited Ladera in December for our 25th wedding anniversary. While the weather was a little disappointing, Ladera did not disappoint. We stayed in Paradise Ridge and had a beautiful suite. The open-air sleeping was very romantic - we call it glamping! The staff at Ladera from top to bottom, were amazing - especially our "butlers", Schol and Keisha. Anything we wanted, they made it happen. They even brought breakfast to us even though we failed to put our requests out the night before. We did have one unfortunate incident in Dasheen, which can happen anywhere, but everyone went out of their way to make it right, especially Keisha. We loved the island and will go back again, but probably in later winter. We did the volcano/mud bath excursion and it was awesome. I doubt there's a much better view than you will get at Ladera. It was a very unique vacation. I highly recommend!

We spent four night's at Ladera 28-1. When we arrived early we were greeted for check in.Our room was not ready so we had lunch which was very good with a beautiful amazing view. Our room was a Heritage suite which has the bedroom upstairs. The first room they showed us the pool was in the rear of the room so we asked for another room and luckily there was a room available with a pool overlooking the Pitons. Our check in was quick but nobody oriented us to the room or the property-There was a welcome cocktail party but we were not made aware of this and yes there was a flyer in the room but we did not notice it until the next day.A few other mishaps and the food for dinner is very average so that is why i would only rate Ladera 4-4.5 stars. We spent New Years there and the evening was just fantastic. The food was very good and the staff worked hard to make sure everyone had a great time.I heard they were adding Butler service to all the rooms so I am sure that will add to the service.I am not saying the service is bad in any way but maybe not quite 5 star.Everyone at the resort was very nice and helpful. The rooms are just amazing. Our room had a heated pool .It was so great to just relax and drink champagne in the pool.We stayed in room D and loved the view. The restaurant for dinner was just Ok but we loved the Bar area,Breakfast and lunch were very good and there was nightly entertainment..We had dinner at Boucan which we did not enjoy but other people we spoke to did.Another night we tried the Great room at Sugar beach and loved it, The dining room is beautiful and the food was fantastic but it is expensive. We also had lunch at Sugar beach and loved both restaurants on the beach and again very expensive but the food and drinks were very good. The beach is actually beautiful but in order to enjoy the beach the chair rentals are 50 dollars per chair. There are free chairs to the right but that is where the boats are. Some people brought towels and lied on them on the beach .We had a late lunch and then went in the water so we did not rent a chair-Worth it if you are spending the day but Sugar beach is a family resort so there were kids around-completely different than ladera, still a beautiful beach and we found them welcoming. As Liz said(Hi Liz) the beach at Anse Chastanet is fantastic. The easy ten minute walk to Anse Marmin is well worth it.The beach is quiet and it was easy to rent a chair.Service and food on the beach was great. The hotel will arrange all of your tours and taxis and they were reasonable.if you take the Soufrie experience tour ask for Elferbert as he was great. Ladera is a magical place so I hope you enjoy it as much as we did

We decided to go for lunch on our way to Castries. Food was great and the view is breath taking. Will definitely consider spending a weekend at this beautiful spot! Would recommend the restaurant for sure!

My wife and I stayed at Ladera for a week before Christmas. The rooms and the view are breathtaking, absolutely out of this world! It is a great place to spend 2-3 nights. There isn’t much to do and we found that the excursions the hotel would schedule often got canceled if they weren’t 1on1 (boat trips, for instance). We met several couples on their honeymoons who had done a combo with the Sandals resort followed by a few nights at Ladera and said it was perfect. There was also a weird thing where we didn’t get very good vibes from the waitresses at the restaurant, though the housekeeping/grounds staff was incredibly nice. Finally, we got massages which were no joke!
