Ladera in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

There is no fourth wall in villas at Ladera – instead, there is the jaw-dropping backdrop of the Pitons, two mountainous volcanic spires that attract adventure-seekers from across the world. A faint tropical breeze wafts from the Caribbean Sea far below through netting on a four-poster bed carved from polished tropical hardwood. Incentive to leave your room can be found in chef Nigel Mitchel's creative interpretation of traditional island fare – try the roast conch served with organic vegetables from the neighboring plantation.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. Walk among them on lush grounds that used to be a cocoa plantation. Float under the cascading waterfall of your private plunge pool, watching parrots and orioles drifting on air currents over the treetops. Sip sweet potato and coconut soup at the clifftop open-air restaurant. Watch the stars create an unobstructed canopy over the ocean, spotting constellations on your suite's star chart.

My wife and I recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and my wife’s 60th birthday at Ladera and we can't say enough about this unique resort. From when we first stepped of the plane and were met by a person holding a Ladera sign who greeted us with a warm smile and swiftly navigated us through the crowded airport to our waiting car and driver, to when we reluctantly said our last goodbyes to the friendly staff, everything about Ladera was perfect. We knew from the pictures we had seen on line and the reviews we had read that the resort was beautiful and had amazing views of the ocean below, but what we experienced at Ladera far exceeded our expectations. We stayed in the Heritage Suite E, which was an upgrade from our requested Hilltop Dream Suite. To say our room was lovely would be an understatement with its elaborate wood carvings throughout and spectacular private pool overlooking the Pitons, and the grounds adorned with lush and varied plant life were nothing short of gorgeous. The Dasheene restaurant, with its separate levels for breakfast/lunch, fine dining and lounge/bar, was fabulous and the food was delectable. I don’t think my wife and I have ever had filet mignon that tasted as good as prepared by the chef at Dasheene, it literally melted in your mouth. We could go on and on about the beauty of the resort, the amazing views and the fabulous food, but what sets Ladera apart is the staff. They all went above and beyond to make our stay special. Every person we came in contact, from the people at the front desk, to the servers, to the shuttle drivers and even the person who trims the plants and grass, all went out of their way to greet us warmly and make us feel welcome, and most of those people knew us by name, many by first name. It is that kind of hospitality that makes Ladera special. Of particular note, were the evening bar staff, who got the guests up dancing to the nightly entertainment. My wife and I love to dance so it didn’t take too much coxing to get us up on the floor, but the servers and bar tenders joining us made our after dinner drinks a lot of fun. My wife and I have travelled a lot through Europe and the Mediterranean and to Hawaii, always at five star resorts, and we know and appreciate good service. Ladera is certainly a unique resort with its open air rooms, private pools, elaborate wood carvings and of course, the amazing views, but it is the exceptional service and hospitality that puts Ladera at the top of our list. The wonderful staff certainly made our special celebration even more special.

We have spent a day and a half here and everyone knows our names and what we enjoy. We have a lovely room with a plunge pool. the cold pool suits us fine from the heat of the day. We're from Chicago and the pool really feels good

Can't believe it took me this long to write a review, but this is seriously one of the most amazing places we've been. With there being so many Caribbean islands/places to visit, we normally don't think to go back to somewhere we've already been, but this is a place we will for sure return to! I wanted to do go somewhere a little different than the usual beach hotel/resort and when I saw these open fourth wall rooms I had to come and see it for myself. It was a dream! The rooms were so beautiful. The open fourth wall was breath taking! There were double doors to the bedroom so there was privacy as needed. During the day when we had them open you would have the cool breeze coming in through the open fourth wall with a view of the piton mountains and sea and then through the other side there was a deck that opened up to more lush forest. So if you are looking for something a little different, a little more adventurous, this is the place! It is almost like luxury glamping being you have that outdoor feel. It really is an unreal experience! Perfect place to celebrate an anniversary. Our anniversary is in September, but we went in July to avoid more chances of rain and it was perfect. Had one night of rain, but none during the day that interrupted any plans. Breakfast at the restaurant had the best view! Go early so you can get one of the tables at the edge. Our first morning there, we were the first ones to arrive and got the best table. It felt like we were the only ones at the resort at times, so definitely not over crowded and overall very peaceful. Food at the restaurant was very good. Loved our tropical drinks, peppermint tea, plantains and other appetizers and meals overlooking the the Caribbean Sea and Piton Mountains. Pretty sure we had plantain chips every day. I don't know what it was, but something about being literally in the middle of the rain forest, in this beautiful place was just magical! We didn't even mind the chirping of the outdoors-frogs at night. The bug situation wasn't even that bad. I was worried about critters on the ground, but didn't see any besides a lizard here and there outside on the patio. The mosquito net did it's job and kept the bugs/moths out. And they do a good job of keeping the rooms clean to keep bugs away. Our room also had stairs that led up to a private pool! Just sitting enjoying the view from our room was an activity in itself. Service was amazing! Everyone was super friendly and accommodating. They were super helpful in booking our tours which we highly recommend the tour of Soufriere. It was so much fun doing the mud bath and mineral baths and taking a dip in the waterfalls. We were welcomed with drinks and sent off with calendars and treats to take home. Also nice the hotel has a shuttle that takes you back and forth to Sugar Beach where you can kayak and see the Resort from the bottom. Swimming in the infinity pool was super relaxing. And again can't beat swimming with the views of the mountains and the sea right there. We also ran into the owner/manager which was a treat. Super nice and friendly. We got to learn a little more about the resort. The fact that she took the time to chat with us said a lot. Definitely a family feel at the resort. She truly cares and treats her team like family. I can't wait to return. We went for our 16th anniversary and are hoping to go back for our 20th. We love this place! We only got to see half of the island, so when we return we'll see the northern part of the island but will still choose to stay here in the southern part. Truly a once in a lifetime experience! So glad we did this!

My wife and I delayed our honeymoon to coincide with our first anniversary. I booked the Peak to Beach package that Ladera and Cal Maison offer. The airport driver, Senec, was friendly, courteous and gave us great insight on the way to Ladera. Upon arrival we were greeted by our Butler, Schol. He loaded up the golf cart and whisked us to our Suite on Paradise Ridge. We were in PR2 which is a corner unit that offers spectacular views. Schol and Kiecher are the head butlers who take care of you while you're there. They provide a cell phone and are on call for you. The room was spacious, clean and filled with seating and amenities. My only complaint was the pool temp which they tried to fix. A heated pool in 90 degree heat isn't refreshing. If I could change one thing I'd have the pool water cool rather than hot. Dasheens food is spectacular. We chose the all inclusive package and every meal we had was awesome. Shanna was our server for every breakfast and is quite pleasant. The remoteness and quiet were ideal for us and we are now at Cap Maison. Being on the water is great but we miss the quaint quiet of Ladera.

Great Food, Amazing views and amazing Staff! Had so much Fun with Leah, Crystal and Jay! We will return one day to conquer Gros Piton (Only made it half way up due to rain and fog!) Be prepared if you don't get the all inclusive meals can be abit pricey but worth every penny!
