Ladera in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

There is no fourth wall in villas at Ladera – instead, there is the jaw-dropping backdrop of the Pitons, two mountainous volcanic spires that attract adventure-seekers from across the world. A faint tropical breeze wafts from the Caribbean Sea far below through netting on a four-poster bed carved from polished tropical hardwood. Incentive to leave your room can be found in chef Nigel Mitchel's creative interpretation of traditional island fare – try the roast conch served with organic vegetables from the neighboring plantation.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. Walk among them on lush grounds that used to be a cocoa plantation. Float under the cascading waterfall of your private plunge pool, watching parrots and orioles drifting on air currents over the treetops. Sip sweet potato and coconut soup at the clifftop open-air restaurant. Watch the stars create an unobstructed canopy over the ocean, spotting constellations on your suite's star chart.

My husband and I took the peak to beach package for our 20th anniversary. Ladera resort is even more beautiful in person. The staff were wonderful . Our room was x6. We upgraded to the hilltop dream sweet to have the heated pool which is absolutely worth it!. I've never had a pool in my room before and wasn't really sure we would use it much - we were in it multiple times a day and absolutely loved it. The temperature was refreshing during the day but nice and warm in the evenings and actually quite a nice size. The room itself was perfect. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, not your typical five star hotel. The rooms feature elaborately carved wood and local artwork throughout. The Bathroom had a huge shower and wonderful tropical breezes blowing through. The temperatures went from 75° at night to 85° during the day. Each time we woke up or walked into the room it just took our breath away. The view is unparallelled. Ahead of time I was a little concerned there might be a lot of bugs but I can honestly say at Ladera we did not see much of anything other than hummingbirds, grackles, the occasional lizard and other tropical birds. We are not drinkers so wondered if the all-inclusive would be a waste for us but it turned out to be spectacular! food and drink is quite expensive in St. Lucia and Dasheene was absolutely amazing for breakfast lunch and dinner. The staff were wonderful and quickly get to know you and your preferences. The attire at Dasheene is smart casual for dinner only. We recommend coordinating some activities based on your preferences. We had one day of land sightseeing where we walked the botanical gardens, tet Paul nature trail, drove through soufriere, and visited the mud baths and two waterfalls. I thought it was well worth organizing that into one day as each activity really only needed an hour or two and let us enjoy the rest of our time just lounging at Ladera. We arranged a boat to transfer up to Cap Maison hitting all the sites along the coast incl snorkeling at Sugar Beach and the Blacksand beach, visiting the Batcave, the tunnel of love, the Castries market, Marigot Bay and Rodney bay. Then it was a quick shuttle, maybe less than 15 minutes Cap Maison. We met Holly the owner the day before leaving and when she found out it was our 20th anniversary she made preparations for a special dinner for us which was, as all the meals were outstanding and very sweet gesture. A few tips - we preferred to tip in cash to know what we we're spending and even in the all-inclusive package Ladera will give you a folder both at lunch and dinner which makes this easy. The mud baths while close weren't as much fun to walk to as we thought they would be as it was a steep up and down through hotel duChocolat. And the st Lucia roads aren't great for walking. We didn't rent a car and another couple that we spoke with said they were sorry they did. The roads are very narrow barely 2 lanes around very sharp corners and without knowing the lay of the land would be a very stressful driving experience. The heated pool is worth every penny. Ray the gardener offers a free tour and he's an amazing fountain of knowledge. We came away with an amazing appreciation of the grounds at Ladera after his tour and are so glad we did it. We had a wonderful time at Cap Maison also but after the grounds, room, privacy and service at Ladera it felt more like a condo complex. It was nice to have two restaurants to choose from but Ladera was hands-down our favorite. If you are a sun and beach person you might feel differently but for us Ladera was pretty close to paradise.

The main appeal of this resort is the three-walled suites, with open views of the Pitons and Carribean over your suite's private pool. Restaurant is good, with another hotel restaurant (also good) just across the street. The only downside is that you need to use a shuttle to get to the beach, but the resort provides this on a regularly scheduled basis (with some flexibility if you need different timing). The resort also has a larger pool than those in the suites. Access to beach amenities is a bit limited, but adequate.

I brought my husband to Ladera to celebrate his 40th birthday and my oh my am I ever glad I did. We had such a fantastic experience. We were in Room D which is a heritage suite and it was such an amazing room with a view that stopped us in our tracks over and over. I honestly can't think of a more beautiful view that I have ever seen. The service at the resort was wonderful. Caroline was the first person we met and she went above and beyond to make my husbands birthday special. She even made sure the snorkeling trip we went on that day celebrated him. We did a snorkeling trip, a sunset sail and also a trip to the mud baths. The hotel organized all of them and each one of them was great fun. We got to know our cab drivers Gus and Nigel and looked forward to riding anywhere with them. They were so dependable and went out of their way to keep us safe and on time. I really could go on and on. This was a trip that will forever have such a special place in our memories. If you are thinking of a visit here, go for it. We sure do not regret it!!!

La Dera is incredibly Beautiful . The staff were so friendly and helpful . I was lucky enough to have a quick chat with the owner and she was kind enough to give me some insight about the history of the resort. The room ( hilltop dream suite x2 ) was outstanding , The view is incredible! so beautiful i had to look twice many times to see if it was reality . The ocean is so calm and how it meets the sky on the horizon is the closest thing I've seen to heaven . literally sat by my pool and watched hummingbirds fly by 5 feet away . The food was fantastic , the music ( fourth world ) reggae band were fantastic. I could go on forever about this resort. Im not even close to complimenting everything about this wonderful place. Also like to say the management and staff went so out of their way to make our stay so special. People can review and say this resort is "expensive" .... well I disagree ,I want to say thank you to the family that build this wonderful resort . The patience and engineering to build such a beautiful place and give us the opportunity to experience such beauty ill be forever grateful . Thumbs up all around!!! Go visit at least once in your life!!! Thank you Ladera, Family & staff . We will Return!!

Last week, on Good Friday, we stopped in for a wonderful lunch in an idyllic setting, high above the sea and looking out at the Piton Mountains. Party of 8, our table was waiting for us, food and service were excellent and it was fairly priced. I would say it's a can't miss spot when in the area.
