Ladera in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

There is no fourth wall in villas at Ladera – instead, there is the jaw-dropping backdrop of the Pitons, two mountainous volcanic spires that attract adventure-seekers from across the world. A faint tropical breeze wafts from the Caribbean Sea far below through netting on a four-poster bed carved from polished tropical hardwood. Incentive to leave your room can be found in chef Nigel Mitchel's creative interpretation of traditional island fare – try the roast conch served with organic vegetables from the neighboring plantation.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. Walk among them on lush grounds that used to be a cocoa plantation. Float under the cascading waterfall of your private plunge pool, watching parrots and orioles drifting on air currents over the treetops. Sip sweet potato and coconut soup at the clifftop open-air restaurant. Watch the stars create an unobstructed canopy over the ocean, spotting constellations on your suite's star chart.

The main appeal of this resort is the three-walled suites, with open views of the Pitons and Carribean over your suite's private pool. Restaurant is good, with another hotel restaurant (also good) just across the street. The only downside is that you need to use a shuttle to get to the beach, but the resort provides this on a regularly scheduled basis (with some flexibility if you need different timing). The resort also has a larger pool than those in the suites. Access to beach amenities is a bit limited, but adequate.

I brought my husband to Ladera to celebrate his 40th birthday and my oh my am I ever glad I did. We had such a fantastic experience. We were in Room D which is a heritage suite and it was such an amazing room with a view that stopped us in our tracks over and over. I honestly can't think of a more beautiful view that I have ever seen. The service at the resort was wonderful. Caroline was the first person we met and she went above and beyond to make my husbands birthday special. She even made sure the snorkeling trip we went on that day celebrated him. We did a snorkeling trip, a sunset sail and also a trip to the mud baths. The hotel organized all of them and each one of them was great fun. We got to know our cab drivers Gus and Nigel and looked forward to riding anywhere with them. They were so dependable and went out of their way to keep us safe and on time. I really could go on and on. This was a trip that will forever have such a special place in our memories. If you are thinking of a visit here, go for it. We sure do not regret it!!!

La Dera is incredibly Beautiful . The staff were so friendly and helpful . I was lucky enough to have a quick chat with the owner and she was kind enough to give me some insight about the history of the resort. The room ( hilltop dream suite x2 ) was outstanding , The view is incredible! so beautiful i had to look twice many times to see if it was reality . The ocean is so calm and how it meets the sky on the horizon is the closest thing I've seen to heaven . literally sat by my pool and watched hummingbirds fly by 5 feet away . The food was fantastic , the music ( fourth world ) reggae band were fantastic. I could go on forever about this resort. Im not even close to complimenting everything about this wonderful place. Also like to say the management and staff went so out of their way to make our stay so special. People can review and say this resort is "expensive" .... well I disagree ,I want to say thank you to the family that build this wonderful resort . The patience and engineering to build such a beautiful place and give us the opportunity to experience such beauty ill be forever grateful . Thumbs up all around!!! Go visit at least once in your life!!! Thank you Ladera, Family & staff . We will Return!!

Last week, on Good Friday, we stopped in for a wonderful lunch in an idyllic setting, high above the sea and looking out at the Piton Mountains. Party of 8, our table was waiting for us, food and service were excellent and it was fairly priced. I would say it's a can't miss spot when in the area.

Was really looking forward to a nice getaway here with my husband. One thing is for sure, the views are spectacular. Some of the most beautiful I have ever seen, and we've been all over. However, the service was not good. In fact, it was borderline mediocre. Caroline at the front desk was lovely, helpful and cheerful, but aside from her, the rest of the staff seemed bothered by us and just downright annoyed to have to be there. The room was very clean, but as you can probably tell, seemed dated. I did not expect the new resort type of feel like a four seasons, ritz, viceroy, etc. but the turquoise pools and various decor just made this place seem out of 1985. Nevertheless, the view from room X5 was beautiful, the pool was warm (heated pool is a must), bed was comfortable and toiletries nice. The shower would either get burning hot or freezing cold, I took one QUICK shower and that was it. Didn't bother to alert the staff since they were not very forthcoming. Food was not good. We ordered a cheese plate to room service and what a waste and took 45 minutes. They told us the resort was only half full - why so long? The person who delivered it was annoyed. Dashenee was not worth going to, we are foodies, so maybe if you haven't truly experienced great food you might like this, but to us it was mediocre at best, and the service too. The second night we decided to eat in the bar area and it was much better, as was the service. We sat at the pool both days and had to go in to the restaurant ourselves to order drinks, water. No poolside service. They seemed surprised we wanted to eat and drink at the pool (on one day we were the only ones there). On the plus side, we saw no bugs - none. No mosquitos, spiders, nothing. Nothing even in the room and the rooms were quiet. I don't know why people had issues with these things. We left after 2 days and went to the Viceroy, and while, I know it is a "different" and newer experience, the staff alone could not even compare. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with everything at Ladera other than the views and would not go back. I would advise people to stay at the Viceroy if you can swing it and venture to the bar at Dashnee for drinks and appetizers and the view one night.
