Ladera in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

There is no fourth wall in villas at Ladera – instead, there is the jaw-dropping backdrop of the Pitons, two mountainous volcanic spires that attract adventure-seekers from across the world. A faint tropical breeze wafts from the Caribbean Sea far below through netting on a four-poster bed carved from polished tropical hardwood. Incentive to leave your room can be found in chef Nigel Mitchel's creative interpretation of traditional island fare – try the roast conch served with organic vegetables from the neighboring plantation.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. Walk among them on lush grounds that used to be a cocoa plantation. Float under the cascading waterfall of your private plunge pool, watching parrots and orioles drifting on air currents over the treetops. Sip sweet potato and coconut soup at the clifftop open-air restaurant. Watch the stars create an unobstructed canopy over the ocean, spotting constellations on your suite's star chart.

Okay....High up in the mountains, only 3 walls, a view of the Pitons and ocean that takes your breath every single time you look, tiny gorgeous private pool, and so quiet and relaxing.... I loved this place! (Although there was at least 1 lizard a day in my room, but we made somewhat of a loose truce: you don't actually touch me and I won't smack you. But, I did find it necessary to give the toilet a careful and thorough search EVERY TIME if you follow me...) The food was very good, but not many choices and after being here a week, the island style of cooking everything got a tad old - that, and it was not all-inclusive and on this island, there were not scads of choices. Let's just say that food and drinks were very expensive. Very. I loved the ocean and Piton view from up in the mountains, but the van ride to the beach is a bit tiring. Sorry for the whining: you can't have it all - up on the hill with the killer view or down on the beach. Choose, don't whine! hahaha! So, here is how I saw it: There are lots of beachside rooms everywhere you go, but this is a rare and unique opportunity. This was truly one of those trips of a lifetime and I will never, ever forget.

We were a little nervous that our second trip might not be as magical as the first, but that was quickly dispelled. Ladera was every bit as amazing the second time. The staff, the service, the food, the room, and of course the view make Ladera a wonderful, unique experience. We have recommended St. Lucia and Ladera to everyone we've met since our first visit.

We stayed at Ladera Resort a while ago. IThis was on our bucket list and it is an amazing place. Our reservation was for one room and we expressed our desire to stay in an upgraded suite. Caroline assured us that we could upgrade, and she made it happen. Both rooms were so beautiful with amazing views, you don't want to leave. We spent a lot of time relaxing while gazing out at the Pitons. The sense of being part of the mountain and nature was mesmerizing. Almost every day we saw rainbows. If you want to know where the Pot of Gold is, look to the base of the Pitons. We wanted to tour the area and experience St. Lucia yet as two women traveling together we shared concerns with Caroline. She assured us that she would find a suitable guide and we met Kendi. Kendi was more than a suitable guide. He took us everywhere. He was our private guide through the botanical gardens pointing out interesting flora. He took us to the mud baths, Anse Chastenet to snorkel and explained what to look for where. He took pictures of us together, educated us about certain vendors, took us to a local grocery store. AND he brought us to an amazing local restaurant in Soufriere with a view of the harbor that we NEVER would have found on our own. The food was so good we ordered food to go! I wish I could remember the name of the restaurant. He was always in sight, yet allowed us to "explore" on our own. If you ever go to Ladera, ask Caroline about Kendi. Caroline and the staff at Ladera are an asset. Our experience at Ladera was amazing and very special. It more than filled our bucket.

We spent three nights at Ladera in the Paradise Ridge Suite 6. What a unique and wonderful experience!!! It was a wonderful way to end our stay in beautiful Saint Lucia! Please consider booking through Ruth DeMuth with TripGuy Travel. She has wonderful relationships with many St. Lucian properties, is extremely knowledgable and professional, and you pay her nothing extra- why not have a great agent behind you when you are spending thousands on a vacation? The suite was stunning. Absolutely enormous- the bathroom area was as big as some hotel rooms I've stayed at in major cities! It had a back balcony with a gorgeous view to the mountains, a huge pool with swing, and a generous sunning deck with 2 loungers. With the view of the Pitons, it would be easy to never leave the room- especially because this suite comes with butlers to take extra good care of you! I will admit, it was a bit hard to sleep the first night. Heat wasn't an issue overall, even in August, as there was a constant breeze moving through. No issue with critters or with mosquitoes either- it was just different for me! I'm not used to that concept of the open room and it took some getting used to. It rained off and on through the night, which would wake me each time. No problem- I lounged the entire next day by our room pool reading and napping. Our butlers brought breakfast and lunch and there was no need to leave the room at all. That night, after dinner, I promptly fell asleep and did not wake up even one time. I'd officially adjusted! On the second day, after a quick workout on the property hills, I started at the spa with a wonderful 50 minute massage, then moved to the main pool area to read and relax. The pool there is the most refreshing swim I'd ever had. I am not sure what it was- it was perfectly cool and refreshing and I didn't want to get out at all! I had the pool to myself until around 4:30 when many returned from the beach. The pool area turned into happy hour. It was fun to meet so many great people from all over! We ate all of our meals from Dasheene and had prepared with the all inclusive option. If you are not planning to leave property, I highly suggest this option. The house drinks and wines are included. I was quite impressed with the house wine selection- definitely better than what I've been used to for all inclusive wine offerings. The food is very good. For lunch, don't miss the sweet potato fries or the plantain chips. Dinner favorites included the pumpkin soup and the ribs. The chocolate mousse for dessert is a must! I cannot say enough about this amazing staff. From the moment Caroline greeted us, we knew we were in good hands. Elizabeth, Elisha, and Jason took wonderful care of us at dinner. Jennifer tended to us in the bar and she created a perfect martini for me I am going to try desperately to recreate at home. Our butlers Skhol and Keicher were wonderful also- we wanted for nothing.

This resort is truly breathtaking! From the time you arrive to the time you leave, the staff members are so friendly and are ready to assist you with whatever you may need. The views are incredible, we loved our room and the plunge pool and waking up to the Pitons every morning felt like a dream. It truly is a romantic paradise, would highly recommend this resort. Can't wait to go back! Thank you Ladera Resort and all your staff members for making our trip so amazing and memorable.
