Ladera in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

There is no fourth wall in villas at Ladera – instead, there is the jaw-dropping backdrop of the Pitons, two mountainous volcanic spires that attract adventure-seekers from across the world. A faint tropical breeze wafts from the Caribbean Sea far below through netting on a four-poster bed carved from polished tropical hardwood. Incentive to leave your room can be found in chef Nigel Mitchel's creative interpretation of traditional island fare – try the roast conch served with organic vegetables from the neighboring plantation.

Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest. Walk among them on lush grounds that used to be a cocoa plantation. Float under the cascading waterfall of your private plunge pool, watching parrots and orioles drifting on air currents over the treetops. Sip sweet potato and coconut soup at the clifftop open-air restaurant. Watch the stars create an unobstructed canopy over the ocean, spotting constellations on your suite's star chart.

After traveling with coworkers, friends, and family for the past few weeks prior to my stay at Ladera Resort, I was in desperate need of some “me time.” Ladera Resort was the most absolutely perfect place to stay in St. Lucia. Upon arrival, I was absolutely floored by how beautiful and pristine the resort was. The resort itself is pretty large and is covered with gorgeous plants, trees, and wildlife (lizards, frogs, and many, MANY insects)! It was like being in paradise. The room that I stayed in was wonderful. Upon entering, I was welcomed with a bottle of champagne, but nothing could overshadow the jaw-dropping view of the Pitons and nature from my room! As many people have stated before, please note that most, if not ALL, the rooms are OPEN to the rainforest. This means that you do not have anything really separating you from the wilderness! This is extremely beautiful during the daytime, but come dusk, you will have moths, mosquitoes, and other critters paying you a visit. Watch out for that! Please note that there is a lot of bug spray provided in your room which is a nice touch. The amenities in the room were perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. There are plenty of chairs to sit on to enjoy the view. My bathroom was large and had a HUGE shower that was beautiful and perfect. Also, I really appreciate that they stock the fridge with fresh fruit, soda, and bottled water! Additionally, I love that they provide you with Molton Brown products to use while you are there. However, my favorite part of the room was the private plunge pool! It’s only about 4 ft deep, but if you do not want to go to the main pool, fear not, because you have one in the comfort of your own room! There is also a spa, fitness center, hot tubs next to the fitness center, and a pool by the restaurant (Dasheene). I recommend just walking around the resort to take in the beauty of your surroundings. Ladera Resort also offers tours through them which is perfect for couples who want to explore St. Lucia (Scuba diving, sailing, horseback riding, etc.). I did the Soufrière Experience which takes you to the waterfalls, botanical gardens, and sulphur springs for a sulphur mud bath. This is HIGHLY recommended! Please note that they charge per couple, but if you go alone it’s half of the posted price. Finally, and most importantly, the absolute best part of Ladera Resort were the people that work there. Every single person that I interacted with at Ladera Resort quickly learned and remembered my name and tailored an experience unique to me. I cannot remember everyone’s names for the life of me, but Elka and Caroline really went above and beyond during my stay at Ladera Resort. Everyone is extremely friendly, accommodating, and so full of life. This was what made my stay so memorable. I can say with confidence that this was probably on the top 3 vacations/resorts that I’ve ever experienced in my life!!! It was a perfect getaway from the madness of New York City and I am forever grateful to have spent my 25th birthday at Ladera Resort in the heart of nature. This truly was heaven on earth!

The most amazing place in the world, the moment you step into your suite, your breath is taken away by the views. The staff, the location and the atmosphere is absolutely out of this world. You will be falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle and waking up to the sun rising over the Pitons.

Ladera is beautiful - hands down the best, closest view of the Pitons that you will get in St. Lucia. Our room was gorgeous - we stayed in a Hilltop Dream Suite which was a two level room with spiraling staircase down to our private, heated plunge pool. The food each day was outstanding and every single person at Ladera made us feel welcomed and important. My BUT comes in because...and this never ever occurred to me when booking our vacation and I didn't read one review about it - because it is OPEN AIR LIVING there is literally NO WALL on the entire side of your room that looks out to the Pitons and where your pool is. Now, we live in NYC - we are not strangers to sleeping with constant noise...but let me tell you we did not sleep soundly ONE NIGHT that we stayed (6). While some people may like the "rainforest noises" at night or even set that setting on their sleep machine while at home..this was crazy noisy with all the peep frogs and god knows what else chirping non stop ALL. NIGHT. One night something even got stuck in between the wall and our shower and woke us immediately out of the sound sleep we were just starting to get - think of the most annoying bird chirp you've ever heard and ask yourself if you'd be able to sleep 7-8 hours with that constantly going on next to you. another thing that really set us back was the fact that the sun sets at 6:35pm there (we're from the east coast so we were missing out on a good 2 hours of daylight) and as soon as the sun goes down god forbid you turn on any lights or try to use your phone while in your room before moths the size of hands fly in the room and attach themselves to the light or to the bug net that is around your bed. It honestly was stressful every night we knew we were heading back to the room because we simply just did not want to be there and worry about the bugs and not sleeping at all the rest of the night. **ALSO - it's hot and humid in St. air living = zero chance for an air conditioned room - so keep that in mind as well. We did ask for a standing fan but that did little alleviate the heat** Overall, yes, the resort is drop dead gorgeous and it was worth seeing the views and venturing around - but I really wish I had thought through what "open air living" really was going to mean and I would have booked us a different place to stay. I'm only posting this because when I was doing my research no one spoke up about this - maybe I am literally the only one who felt this way while staying a Ladera but regardless I wanted to make sure I let other people know.

Where to start? Ladera was hands down one of most gorgeous places I have ever stayed! The staff, The rooms, the service, all of it was top notch. First the Rooms: OMG. 3 walls, plunge pool, the sounds, the views! I mean...speechless. I was told by my boyfriend we could not afford the heated pool ( spoiled, a little?) The water was fine just a tad chilly. Then we told the staff ( we took a chance) to see if it could be a little warmer? OMG the next day it was like 90 and pure heaven! I guess we had a heated pool after all! :) What a dream. The views of the Pitons were incredible. The rustic yet clean and elegant decor was perfect. all the Drivers and staff ( Vianny was the sweetest) and nothing but smiles every day every minute. We even met the owner Holly who I had heard many good things about from her sweet staff. She is just as kind and down to earth as they said. And there is beautiful foliage and tons of hummingbirds throughout the property! We loved the bowls of cascading hot cool. The ONLY thing i would not recommend ( at least for us) was the trip to the Street party in Soufriere. We had heard about it i think from staff? It was an expensive boat ride and LONG, on a motor boat all they way across the island. To get to the part of town that is just... well there is nothing that is to see except stray dogs :(... and then ALOT of drunken American streaming in drinks in hand coming in DROVES off the Cruise ships. Not recommend. Other than that on our last night ( a bummer) we had an amazing time and we have no complaints, only the fondest memories of an amazing week!

The views from these rooms will absolutely take your breath away!! One of the most awe inspiring views of the Pitons. The rooms have a luxurious jungle style layout with 3 walls and if you're lucky, a plunge pool. One day it rained and I couldn't believe how gorgeous it was just to even watch it from the room. There is no beach but you can take the shuttle down to Sugar Beach - that beach is small and very $$$ if you want to get chairs/lunch (we spent 500$ for the day with chairs, a bottle of wine and food) but there is a tiny little area on the right side where you can plop a towel down with the locals without paying anything. St. Lucia was a little sad as it is so incredibly poor and there are these expensive resorts - driving through villages is not safe at night, keep your doors locked. Overall, I highly recommend it for a romantic weekend away for couples. I don't think I would be back as I generally enjoy being able to enjoy a town/culture instead of just staying on the resort - but it's breathtaking and worth the visit.
