Stonefield Estate Resort in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

Stonefield Estate Resort’s idyllic location has hosted centuries of visitors – the island’s earliest-known inhabitants, the Arawaks, left a postcard from 350 A.D. in the form of a petroglyph tablet that can still be seen on the resort’s verdant grounds. Stonefield’s 26 acres were also once a cocoa plantation, and today they yield mangoes, breadfruit and other delicacies that supply the onsite organic restaurant. Airy villas are outfitted in indigenous wood and stone, and guests are more likely to encounter a friendly parrot than another guest. Adventure-seekers will find plenty to do, from rainforest hikes and waterfall excursions to coral reef dives in the balmy Caribbean Sea.

Prepare coffee and peel a freshly picked mango on your canopied terrace. Catch a ride farther up the mountainside, where you’ll join a guide to visit an active volcano full of bubbling pools of lava and prehistoric craters. Take a healing soak in the mineral springs and feel yourself age in reverse. Return to watch the sunset over a plate of grilled Dorado fish in passion fruit sauce.

We just returned from a six night stay at Stonefield Estate and the experience was relaxing and rejuvenating! We looked at many of the all inclusive resorts further north and resorts in the Marigot bay/Castries area, but were intrigued by the secluded nature of Stonefield. It was a 40 minute ride from the airport and upon entering the resort, you immediately notice the beautiful and lush banana and papaya trees, numerous flowering bushes and a cascading water fountain. We were greeted at the reception desk with a nice cold towel and glass of delicious starfruit juice. Our Gingerlilly villa had its own plunge pool, a great view of the Petit Piton, and partial view of the ocean blocked by the papaya trees and large haliconia plants. A nice sitting patio with hammock allowed for relaxation during partially rainy days. The inside had a king sized and very comfortable bed surrounded by mosquito netting, even though insects were not really an issue. An outside, rustic shower, refrigerator, wifi and a small supplied phone to contact the front desk, restaurant and security were part of the amenities. A shuttle was available to Sugar beach, although chair rentals there are $50/person; beach is not too big but the water is crystal clear. The service at the resort is outstanding and the included, delicious Caribbean breakfasts were a great way to start the day. All of the servers were courteous, attentive and friendly, and we especially enjoyed interacting with Venita and Larus. Appreciated meeting and talking with Pancho about the types of plants and trees abounding at the resort and the petroglyphs. The dinner menu changed every couple of days and the food was very good with prices about par for the course. Never had lunch since breakfasts were so filling. Hurricane Maria came close to the island one night, but the staff made sure we had dinner brought to our rooms and supplied some games and snacks to take our minds off the storm. St. Lucia is far enough south that most hurricanes miss this area, in case travelers are worried about booking in the fall. There are many activities in Soufriere and the volcano/mudbath/waterfall tour, botanical gardens, Tet paul hiking tour, and cocoa plantation tours were fun and informative. Water tours are aavailable and can be arranged through the resort or independently. All in all, this was a terrific honeymoon/vacation for a romantic, secluded getaway. Thanks again to all the staff who made our trip a memorable one!

We had a sea view villa and it was beautiful, only downside was water dripping off the roof all the time and we had no rain, seemed to be a pipe. The night we stayed was a buffet and although the food was good we thought it a bit over priced. The staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. The pool in our villa was amazing and loved the way it changed colours at night, very romantic, might be nice to provide citronella burners so you can make the most of the deck in the evening. Also might help to provide a cork screw in the villa, seeing as wine glasses are provided but they did send someone from the restaraunt with one. All in all a very pleasant stay and I would highly recommend it. Might do a night again next year when we come.

It was perfect! The villa was private and had its own pool. The staff was always helpful and polite. The spa was awesome, and the restaurant was great. The location and view are breathtaking. I highly recommend Stonefield.

Been to other places with this group of couples, but here is the best experience so far - rejuvenating! With my spouse, and as a group, we enjoyed the privacy of the resort and of individual villas. This allowed people to feel unencumbered. We relaxed, enjoyed each other, had fun in a clean, aesthetically appealing, welcoming and warm environment. I love nature and apart from the view of the pitons, I enjoyed fruits from a few trees, fresh air, seeing hummingbirds and so many butterflies, even while having a bath. The staff is accommodating. The food was delectable and filling. I love the fact that unlike other resorts I have been to, this one exudes privacy - something I cherish. It's as if you're in a world of your own even though there are many other people around. I would recommend a stay here and certainly, we will be back for a longer stay.

I had to book my villa over the phone. I hope that the service at this resort is better than this experience. On mentioning that this was a special occasion (honeymoon) there was no response - rather the person on the phone simply stated how much taxes I will have to pay. We switched to this villa from another in Anse La Raye simply because of the less secluded nature. That resort had great reviews for views as well as service. Now I am nervous that this special occasion will be marred.
