Stonefield Estate Resort in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

Stonefield Estate Resort’s idyllic location has hosted centuries of visitors – the island’s earliest-known inhabitants, the Arawaks, left a postcard from 350 A.D. in the form of a petroglyph tablet that can still be seen on the resort’s verdant grounds. Stonefield’s 26 acres were also once a cocoa plantation, and today they yield mangoes, breadfruit and other delicacies that supply the onsite organic restaurant. Airy villas are outfitted in indigenous wood and stone, and guests are more likely to encounter a friendly parrot than another guest. Adventure-seekers will find plenty to do, from rainforest hikes and waterfall excursions to coral reef dives in the balmy Caribbean Sea.

Prepare coffee and peel a freshly picked mango on your canopied terrace. Catch a ride farther up the mountainside, where you’ll join a guide to visit an active volcano full of bubbling pools of lava and prehistoric craters. Take a healing soak in the mineral springs and feel yourself age in reverse. Return to watch the sunset over a plate of grilled Dorado fish in passion fruit sauce.

We were previously staying at a another location in Castries that wasn't exactly comfortable for the family and far from everything, and then we came to this paradise. From the moment you drive in to the property you are awwed with how beautiful the resort is. I did not want to leave this place, the staff were amazing, our villa was everything I had hoped it would be. There are mango and coconut trees every where and we definitely indulged. The food and drinks were fresh and delicious. They have a live band that comes on Tuesday's and the restaurant had free rum punch for the guest. The restaurant overlooks the ocean and the beautiful Piton mountains. The sulphur springs are near by, my husband and I walked early in the morning to enjoy the fountain of youth. Sugar beach is also nearby and the ocean is absolutely stunning. I definitely recommend this place for a stay.

The property is beautiful. Every member of the staff, at the desk, at housekeeping, the spa and restaurant, were all amazing. Everyone actually appears to enjoy their jobs. The waitresses and waiters have great personalities! We stayed in the Flamboyant villa which had a beautiful pool and a stunning view. We had a hard time leaving our villa because it that lovely and relaxing. Buy some pool floats if you're in Jasmine or Flamboyant, they totally made the trip! Definitely tether them to the railing or the winds will carry them off. We had the most wonderful time here, highly recommend.

First off, I would definitely go back there in a heartbeat. The staff were wonderful, the resort is beautiful and well maintained. Restaruant was very good and staff helped us get an early breakfast to go since we had an excursion that day. Our only problem was with Chez Anista, the 4/5 BR vill that is offered to guests. When booking, they gave me a very fair rate for our family of 5 and since it was the largest villa offered, we jumped at it. But, it is just very dated and badly needs some $ for an update. Maybe 20 years ago it was awesome. The pool water was green and the hot tub was not functional. Both problems were immediately relayed to guest services, but I guess it couldn't be fixed. The security gate of the villa gave us headaches thoughout our stay. Security was great helping out, but it was a pain. Imagine trying to leave at 5am to catch a plane only to find out you can't leave because your are locked in. Security helped out pretty quickly though, thanks guys. The other problem is that Chez Anista is not walking distance to the resort amenities. Maybe to some it is, but it would be a long walk. Like I said, I would go back in a heartbeat. The views were amazing. The staff was very nice. I would just choose a different villa.

We spent three nights at the Stonefield in the Ocean View Bamboo villa and left generally happy with our stay. The special draw of the villas at Stonefield is the privacy - each is gated and comes equipped with a private plunge pool (We never needed to bother with the main pool), hammock, deck chairs and rocking chairs to just chill out. We even had a view of the Petit Piton from our deck. The villas are admittedly rustic with their fair share of wear and tear, but I was fine sacrificing that for the privacy and space. Were our basic creature comforts satisfied - enough hot water? Yes. comfortable air-conditioning? Yes. Functional wi-fi? Yes. Proper sleep? Yes. There were no problems to report. Food & Amenities: Check-in and check-out were very fast. Parking wasn't a problem next to our villa - only once did we have to park a little further at reception. Breakfast is a la carte and a cute little affair of fruit, warm breads, and a main course. etc...with the Mango Tree restaurant, don't expect designer cuisine but come for the view. The restaurant itself is average, did not care for the drinks and for an expensive Saint Lucia dinner, I would suggest heading to restaurants like Ladera or Boucan nearby instead. *However, on Sunday night they have a tapas (small plates) menu which is very inexpensive for some good comfort food when you don't feel like a super-expensive or heavy meal. Location: The placement makes perfect sense if you aren't spending a long time in Saint Lucia. The hotels in the north are an hour or two further north from the airport and the roads become terrible heading that way, and there really wasn't much to do south of Soufriere. There are plenty of activities around Stonefield, ranging from the Sulphur Springs to Sugar Beach to Snorkeling and Scuba over at Anse Chastenet. Also, there are plenty of really nice restaurants to choose from. Besides the two I mentioned above, Martha's Tables close by and Fedo's and Ruby's in town are great for cheap good eats. There is a mini-market and a couple of gas stations in Soufriere for drinks and snacks. I tell people this because your alternative is to spend $3.50USD on a can of soda if you buy it at the restaurant.

Six of us coming off a sailing charter decided to unwind for a couple nights at Stonefield Estate...and we're VERY happy we did! We stayed in their three bedroom villa which was much larger and much nicer than we had anticipated based on the photos on their site. The living area was beautifully done, the bedrooms were spacious, and the bathrooms were very nicely equipped and had lovely outdoor showers. The pool was clean with plenty of chairs nearby and even a hammock. The pool was pretty private as well (a couple more trees and it would be totally private) and looked over the piton. The staff were - to a one - pleasant, fun and attentive. And the restaurant food was good. Overall, we were thrilled with our choice to stay here and will definitely be back!
