Stonefield Estate Resort in Soufriere, Saint Lucia

Stonefield Estate Resort’s idyllic location has hosted centuries of visitors – the island’s earliest-known inhabitants, the Arawaks, left a postcard from 350 A.D. in the form of a petroglyph tablet that can still be seen on the resort’s verdant grounds. Stonefield’s 26 acres were also once a cocoa plantation, and today they yield mangoes, breadfruit and other delicacies that supply the onsite organic restaurant. Airy villas are outfitted in indigenous wood and stone, and guests are more likely to encounter a friendly parrot than another guest. Adventure-seekers will find plenty to do, from rainforest hikes and waterfall excursions to coral reef dives in the balmy Caribbean Sea.

Prepare coffee and peel a freshly picked mango on your canopied terrace. Catch a ride farther up the mountainside, where you’ll join a guide to visit an active volcano full of bubbling pools of lava and prehistoric craters. Take a healing soak in the mineral springs and feel yourself age in reverse. Return to watch the sunset over a plate of grilled Dorado fish in passion fruit sauce.

We spent 7 nights at Stonefield. 4 would have been plenty. No doubt the views and location are beautiful, but when the security gate goes down on your arrival….well there you are. Want to go to the “volcano” $24. Want to go to Soufriere? $24. You can walk down to Soufriere taking you life into your own hands with the dangerous roadway without a trail or sidewalk. Want to go North to Castries? $300 water taxi for two or another couple hours or more (RT) on a third world narrow road for nearly the same amount. Rent a car? Expensive and dangerous given the left hand drive and steep narrow roads. If you are from the UK or where driving on the left is the norm, then you might have a chance avoiding an unpleasant event. OK, so just hangout. Go to the “Workout Room”. One treadmill in poor shape a stationary bike that is unrideable and some free weights. Want to swim? Pool empty for repairs. Would have been nice to know the maintenance was scheduled for our stay. The rooms are as described however the pictures always look better and I think someone said the facility is “tired”…..we agree. Food was good. Service was fair. View from restaurant was wonderful and spectacular. We had 6 dinners at the resort. The general manager was always there (entertaining family or friends and eating often before the guests), never once came over to ask how our meals or stay were. She was completely indifferent. The highlight of our stay was walking (actually a very steep hike on the narrow roadway) to Sugar Beach and paying $100 for two lounges on the beach. Sugar Beach is a beautiful setting and is the definition of a “Resort”. Word of advice to outbound travelers from St. Lucia. Check your flight and if it’s on a delay or worse, a rolling delay DO NOT pass through customs / immigrations. Once inside the terminal they will NOT let you outside unless the airline cancels the flight. We were held captive for 11 hours in the terminal, which of course was the airlines fault.

We stayed in Jacaranda. I loved this unit. It had a private stairs up to Mango Restaurant. That was very nice!!! The view was absolutely amazing!! It had a great view of the Petit Piton and of the beautiful sea! It was quiet and peaceful. So very relaxing!! The air conditioning is only in the bedroom. It could have worked a little better but it did help. The outdoor shower was so awesome!!!!!!! The service of the resort was extremely responsive whenever needed. The villa was very clean. The king size bed was comfortable. They do need to paint the ceilings due to old water leaks- that was my only negative. Just needs freshly painted. They have a shuttle to Sugar Beach 3 times a day Daily. Just make sure you call and let them know you will be on it. I highly recommend using Janus taxi Service for all taxi needs. The cars are so nice. They are the best price too. Just email them and they will be at Stonefield Resort. You can also set up a taxi from resort too. The restaurant--Mango- is excellent!!! They have different entertainment on different nights. We also had breakfast included---very nice!!!!!!!

The resort was a tucked away gorgeous facility. We really liked The fact that it wasn't a SUPER resort and it's family owned. Our villa had breathtaking views and was perfect for our honeymoon. staff was wonderful and friendly. We kept getting a driver named Miguel and he was a great host everytime. The restaurant on the property was our favorite part because the food was so delicious but moderately pricey. Make sure you bring bug spray, sun block, and spending money. Great location to everything in soufreire which is where the majority of tours take place. An hour from the airport and it's 80 us one way. Definitely recommending to family and friends. Sad to be leaving.

We traveled mid October and had hot and humid weather with tropical rain showers here and there. This property has a total of 17 villas. We had the Orchid Villa. The villa had a straight perfect view of the Piton. The kitchen and sitting area is not air conditioned, but has 6 doors that open up to the pool. Similar to a Lanai. The plunge infinity pool was awesome. Near the infinity part, you can see the ocean. We brought our own rafts and floated all day. The bedroom was air-conditioned, but the bed was hard. The bathroom was large, double sink with a large safe below the sinks. The partial outside shower was cool. There are no hooks anywhere to hang wet suit or pool towel. We enjoyed the relaxation and privacy of our villa. We did the mud bath on our own and not with a group. Took taxi. Paid small fee to get in. Taxi's are a minimum $12 one way. We also took a taxi into town and had tasty local food lunch. The Mango Tree has the most beautiful views and delicious food. There is a shuttle that will take you to Sugar beach. The beach is very small, rocky with many locals hanging around. The water was crystal clear. Overall we loved Stonefield Estate and would recommend it to you.

Oh what a week! Naturally one we will never forget. We just got married in St Lucia at the Catholic Church. We booked out the entire hotel for our guests (well some of them) and the reception was at the villa by reception. It was exceptionally done by our wedding planner Charlie. Unfortunately I was focusing on my wife and took no pics of the final layout. It was absolutely lovely! Our room/villa was the flambouyant. Honestly, I believe this room has the most privacy for the pool and an epic view of the piton. The sunsets are amazing and we had a couple sunset parties. Room service was good daily. Loved the hammock. We visited a few of the rooms and all are unique. The 5 bedroom Chez Anise is massive and a bit further away from the other room. We really loved the 3 bedroom. Be prepared for walking on inclines. If you are not fit, pick a room close to the restaurant. lovely staff. Valna took good care of our group! Highly recommend!!!!
