A 5-Star Safari Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Everything was perfect and beyond our expectations. We stayed in 2 rooms at the Founder's Camp with our children (20, 18, 17) for 5 days and 4 nights . The accommodations were outstanding and perfect for our stay. The rooms are luxuriously appointed and have outdoor areas that are a wonderful place to spend your downtime after safari . The staff greeted us upon arrival and truly looked after us from the moment we arrived. Rob and Hannah were wonderful camp hosts and made sure everything was perfect. Our safari guide (Jess) and tracker (Advice) were so personable, knowledgeable, and friendly on each of our drives. They answered all of our questions and were so helpful in providing insight into the animals' behaviors and habitat. We truly felt like we had the best staff at our service. The food selection and quality is outstanding as well - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eating on the patio overlooking the Sabi River is quite a relaxing and enjoyable experience. During our stay, we saw the magnificent 7 (rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog, and cheetah) and over 30+ different animal species in total (my daughter kept track). Almost all were up close and personal encounters. We have only the best of compliments to give to the staff at Londolozi. They are truly focused on making sure your experience is the best possible and they delivered. The memories that we have of Londolozi will be cherished forever. We are so fortunate to have been able to experience Londolozi. At the end of our stay, we truly felt that we were leaving family. On a side note, I purchased the book The Full Circle by Dave Varty at the gift shop on site and would highly recommend it to anyone who has visited Londolozi or is interested in South African safari history. It added perspective to the incredible place that is Londolozi and the journey that the Varty family took to make it a reality.

Worth the wait!!

We were so disappointed when our trip to Londolosi was cancelled due to Covid in 2020. Well it was worth the wait!! We stayed in the Tree Camp and had our needs attended to at every turn - from the welcome when our plane arrived to the farewell, everything was absolutely perfect! Kelly, who oversaw the camp and Kyle our game driver are delightful people, full of fun and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs. I had a birthday while there. They organized a surprise bush dinner just for us that was absolutely magical . As long as I live I will never forget turning 64!! Thank you team for making our visit so memorable. Can't wait to return!!

Magic

I was lucky enough to visit Londolozi with family for a week over Christmas 2023. It is difficult to put into words just how special this place is. I stayed in Pioneer Camp which truly exceeded any expectations I had… incredible. The South African wildlife is just magical, I can’t put it into words. You must experience it for yourself. Beautiful, a treat for the soul. The staff are some of the warmest, most lovely people I’ve ever met. Each of them have a genuine passion for what they do and this is special to witness. Founts of knowledge. So impressive. On behalf of my whole family I can honestly say that these people are one of a kind. I’d like to thank all of the staff immensely for going above and beyond. Two men in particular, Ross and Robbie. They were our guides for the trips but felt more like family by the end. Ross acted as a brother to me in a particularly difficult time when I was experiencing heart complications. Thanks a million for everything mate! Londolozi is one magical place and I feel so blessed to have experienced it, twice! Long live Londolozi and all of the remaining wild places in this world.

If you're considering going, just do it. It's truly a special place.

It's rare when a place actually lives up to the hype. Londolozi doesn't just live up to the hype, it far surpasses it. We (a gay couple) had the most wonderful 3 night stay at Londolozi. We had a hard time deciding how many nights we should stay before going and in the end were happy with our 3 night stay. We left wanting more, but didn't feel as though we had missed out on the experience. That said, I'd suggest 3 is the minimum you should do. Next time I expect we will stay 4. We had the most engaging, warm and open ranger and guide in Nick and Joy. They were a great team and showed us more than I could have ever imagined seeing. Yes, we saw the big 5 and had the most incredible visit with a pride of lions but we also spent time with so many more amazing birds, a few snakes and got the cutest video of an amazing dung beetle. The cocktails on the evening drives were always a spectacular way to end the evening. Back in Varty camp we were so well taken care of by the full team. A special thank you to Dom for sharing some of his favourite wine with us on our last night. Our room was beautiful and a luxurious place to spend afternoons and nights. The moment a small herd of elephants walked by while I was in the outdoor shower is something I'll never forget. I'm actually struggling to express how amazing our experience was. I never would have anticipated that I would come away wanting to go back again so soon. I typically like to always experience something new, but we are already taking about our return trip (although not until 2027).

5+ Stars

Our stay at the Londolozi Varty Camp in October 2023 was perfect in every way! From the moment we arrived at the Skukuza airport to our departure, no detail was overlooked and executed to perfection. The staff, hospitality, atmosphere, accommodations, wine and food were five stars. And the game drives….. What a wonderful and memorable experience! Lead by a very professional guide and tracker who provided opportunities to see no less than four of the five “Big 5” and countless other animals on every game drive. This while often becoming part of their natural habitat through their efforts to get us close to the wildlife which can only be accomplished through an off road experience. Just the right amount of down time was provided on each day’s itinerary to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings and spa at Londolozi. We also had the opportunity to tour the camp where over 200 dedicated Londolozi staff members live to make this such an amazing place. The tour also provided insights on the commitment of Londolozi to offer continuing education for all staff in an eco friendly and self sustainable environment. Londolozi is without a doubt worthy of its reputation as the most prestigious game reserve in South Africa and the highlight of our 20 day visit to a beautiful country. We truly look forward to becoming one of the many return visitors at Londolozi.
