Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa in South Malé Atoll, Maldives

Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa offers the best of both options when it comes to the appeal of a faraway island and the pleasure of an indulgent vacation. The Maldives themselves are beaches at their finest – powdery sand flanked on either side by azure water and coconut palms. However, there is no austerity in Anantara's presence here. Spa treatments happen in a villa over the water and meals can be taken in one of nine restaurants. A children's center entertains younger guests.

The gentle lapping tide becomes one with the breath during a guided meditation at dawn. Paddle to islands surrounding Dhigu for a glimpse into the lives of local fishermen and the colorful creatures below. Swim along coral reefs filled with fish, rays and sea turtles and have a picnic on your own deserted island. Watch the sunset on the way back and dine on Australian beef surrounded by the azure waters that are the lifeblood of the resort.

This was our first time in the Maldives. It has been the perfect holiday, 10 out of 10. The staff have been so friendly in all areas especially Joy, Pop, Ahmed and Tom. The cleanliness is great. We have relaxed so much that we will be back. The Thai Spice Spoons Cooking class with Noon was a great time.

Unforgettable experience to heal body and soul. Once a year is the starting point for an healty therapy in life. The only things I regret was that my two little doughters were not with us. It was a wonderful experience for my wife and I, but I am looking forward to enjoy the island with my family

I couldn’t have wished for a better experience for my first time in the Maldives. To start, the speedboat transfer to the hotel from the airport was so fast and there was a very warm welcome, being greeted by the staff -clapping and banging drums! Our water villa was amazing! We could not believe the views, especially the bath next to the full length window. Simply stunning. The room itself was spacious and the bed was super comfortable. We were half board which was great. The buffet breakfast had so much choice I had about 4 different options per day!! There was a large fresh honeycomb every day for any honey lovers - this and Greek yoghurt was a daily choice for me. The staff here go above and beyond for you! My now fiancé actually proposed to me on the nearby mini island called Gulhifushi. The manager Gauderic helped him organise this and everything was just perfect. We had the island to ourselves for a private dinner, on a table carved into the sand. When we got back to the room it had been decorated to congratulate us I found this such a nice touch. I would really recommend getting the boat over to Veli island also as the restaurants are lovely there and watching the sunset from Dhoni bar is a MUST! There is also an outdoor cinema on Veli island.

This is our second visit in as many years. Lovely family oriented 5-star resort, located just 35mins by speedboat from Male. Everything was planned by the resort, to perfection, right down from arrival to departure. This time we brought along another 2 families who both booked "Over-Water Villas" whilst my family stayed in a 2 bedroom villa which was spacious, secure, and cleaned to perfection on a daily basis by our roomboys. Coral snorkelling, funboat rides, lazing by the poolside whilst the kids were entertained by a very enthusiastic Nick (a Romanian who works there and who planned daily activities for all kids ranging from beach football to water polo!) We also went on a 4 hour turtle snorkelling cum coral reef snorkelling plus dolphin spotting, accompanied by a very friendly Shamoon from the resorts Sea Sports centre (Aqua Fanatics) who was most knowledgeable and accommodating to our group of 14. A valuable tip to share - do wake up early. 6am perhaps? Walk along the bridge towards the water villas. You will in all likelihood find sting rays just hovering around the lagoon (we spotted several in our 4 mornings there). Also, along the lagoon near the Sea Fire and Salt restaurant, you should find some baby black tip sharks too. We saw 4 just circling on 2 consecutive mornings!!! Few other names that are must-mentions include our wonderful Villa Host, Ana, who never hesitated to engage us whenever she had the chance to do so. The perfect host who looked after us right from arrival till departure. Imthy the villa host manager who never forgot our names, Shifan who waited on our tables for breakfast every morning, Raja our concierge, Joy who waited for us each morning to show us to our table, Rizal who helped my wife with the best bbq live lobster she ever had, and all the service staff at Terrazo, Sea Fire and Salt, Orgami, and Fushi restaurants.. you all definitely made us feel welcome once again, and we are already looking forward to our next trip back!

We had a great week but a shame for us that it rained for most of it. Activities are then very limited with a 2 year old and she was too young for the kids club. The Villas were wonderful and I loved that they were cleaned twice a day. Our only disappointment was that fresh milk wasn’t available for the baby, only longlife and we were charged $20 per carton! And the a la carte restaurants didn’t start serving until 6.30 which is when our baby normally goes down for the night. Our evening meal experiences were therefore less than enjoyable! But overall, a great relaxing week with extremely helpful staff.
