Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa in South Malé Atoll, Maldives

Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa offers the best of both options when it comes to the appeal of a faraway island and the pleasure of an indulgent vacation. The Maldives themselves are beaches at their finest – powdery sand flanked on either side by azure water and coconut palms. However, there is no austerity in Anantara's presence here. Spa treatments happen in a villa over the water and meals can be taken in one of nine restaurants. A children's center entertains younger guests.

The gentle lapping tide becomes one with the breath during a guided meditation at dawn. Paddle to islands surrounding Dhigu for a glimpse into the lives of local fishermen and the colorful creatures below. Swim along coral reefs filled with fish, rays and sea turtles and have a picnic on your own deserted island. Watch the sunset on the way back and dine on Australian beef surrounded by the azure waters that are the lifeblood of the resort.

Excellent time in Dhigu for 8 days (Feb. 10th to 18th 2018). Really appreciate the kind and friendly service. Fourth hotel and fourth time in the Maldives and we had a great time. Other reviews mention, and I have to agree, if the resort is fully booked it can get a little crowded: you have to book early to have the right time at a restaurant, etc. But the attention and care stay focused. Always felt personalisation with the service. Cecily, Jully and Sanyia at the restaurants, Waheed taking care of the room, Fasy as butler, Zee in the voleibol court: all made for a great experience. You can tell they have a good maestro (Gauderic). It was a "family" island with many children, which worried at the beginning, but had the Anantara Veli island, adults only, next door if any time you wanted to "escape". We ended only going there for breakfast, which was nicer for couples. All in all, great time, I would return for sure and have suggested the hotel to many friends already

My husband Gavin and I loved this place, lots of restaurants, great food, great ocean sunset villa (amazing sunsets) and the service was exceptional. We stay at the one and only royal mirage in Dubai quite a lot and have never found a match for the personal service until now. The pool guy was amazing, Shariff worked his socks off, never stopping, so attentive and polite, we never lifted a finger. He always made sure everyone was happy even if they were rude to him. The Aqua bar is really well run, friendly staff, we were particularly impressed with Seshante, Ramu and Ali. Entertainment for the kids, particularly Zee was so good that we want to bring our kids next time. We’ve definitely missed the restaurant hostess Joy for always being a ray of sunshine every morning, such a welcome.

If you take the beautiful nature and scenery out of the equation then is this resort is a very mediocre experience. We've been to many hotels and resorts around the globe and usually you get what you pay for but this place is a far cry from a 5* property and is not good value for money. The service is sub standard and borderline incompetent. But if you like to order the same coffee three times every single morning (because a double shot ice latte with skimmed milk is too complicated in the two first attempts), or if you like extremely long waits for your food orders, or if you like only half your dish showing up without sides, or if you like room service bringing food which has nothing to do with what you actually ordered - then you'll love this place. The place seems over booked and the staff under trained apart from the odd exception. Once the food (or part of it) shows up it's actual quite tasty apart from the breakfast buffet which is bland and boring. We stayed at an Over Water Sunset Villa which was very tired and run down.

Spent 4 nights at Anantara Dhigu in Feb. the hotel was nice, the staff was friendly, and the lagoon/water was crystal clear. We've stayed at the sunset over water villas (recommended as this type of accommodation has the unobstructed views and crystal clear waters in all 3 islands). The food was okay.. we loved the Japanese restaurant at Veli along with the Italian (I would say that those are the best restaurants in the hotel). I would recommend the hotel for families with kids (not a quite place for couples). Plenty of water activities offered at the hotel. As for the hotel/villas/facilities.. i think that it needs some renovations. The pool area was not up to the standards that one can find in other 5 stars hotels in the Maldives. Moreover, due to the huge amount of villas in the island, the place was crowded (breakfast, beaches...etc.) If u are looking for crystal clear waters and activities and you will not be bothered by the crowds and kids then i think that Dhigu is a good choice. Anantara Dhigu is not a true "luxury" hotel neither is Anantara Veli as others in the Maldives (i.e One and Only, Four Seasons, Cheval Blanc...etc.) One of the best features of the hotel that it is a 30 min. Boat ride from Male Airport. Last note: i think that the bikes offered by the hotel needs to be changed; most of the bicycles we've used had problems so we preferred to walk instead.

This is a lovely island, many different restaurants to choose from- all top quality. We had a beach villa which are set right on the beach, beautiful way to start your day, grab a coffee from the complimentary Nespresso machine, walk through the patio doors, and look out to the beautiful colours of the Maldives. Great stay, we hope to come back again!
