Cobblers Cove in Speightstown, Barbados

Wind rustles through white plantation shutters at Cobblers Cove, a country manor on the west coast of Barbados where life carries an air of its colonial past. Afternoons pause for English tea in the Great House pavilion, tropical fruit accompanying delicate scones. Each morning, resident fisherman Barker sets out for the day’s catch – join him if you'd like – to be served up at the restaurant awarded best in the country by the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association.

Lounge by the turquoise sea, lost in the West Indies’s pace of life. Take a kayak to the sand bar and drift away the morning. Catch an afternoon cricket game. In the balmy breeze, sip on a Bajan rumrunner made with muddled banana and garnished with a hibiscus flower. Dine on olive-crusted mahi-mahi with cinnamon plantains at an oceanfront table.

This is a lovely, small property with what I would call a colonial feel. Most of the clientele, myself included, tend to be older. If you are looking for a large resort with tons of activity, this may not be the place for you. However, if you want peace, quiet, and personal service in beautiful surroundings , I think you will be very happy here.

We found Cobblers Cove online whilst searching for hotels in the area, and we are very glad we chose to stay there! It was perfect in every way...we couldn't fault it. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was amazing, with a good selection to choose from. We had a lovely ocean view suite which was very modern and spotlessly clean. There was excellent snorkelling from the hotel beach, and we even managed to swim with sea turtles close to the hotel which was really special. We visited in the off peak season which was very nice as the hotel was quiet. We would highly recommend this homely, family run hotel. Honestly.....it's the best hotel we have ever stayed at.

We went flew from Miami for the weekend arriving late to the hotel. We were greeted with a nice glass of chilled white wine, giving us the impression that the service is very personalized. The rooms are mostly typical with a nice open living area and kitchenette. The back rooms are with AC- bedroom and bathroom/closet. The sounds of local tree frogs were odd but nice. In general I was happy with this visit, but must admit the costs for room and food were very high. Most of the guests were English. So, I am assuming their exchange rates were much better than that of the USD.

We stayed here for the first time after many visits to Barbados staying in other establishments. It was very quiet with low occupancy but we knew it was low season so wasn't surprised. Staff were wonderful, ocean view room was lovely although a little dated in our view but I believe a lot of 'returners' like it that way. Food excellent and afternoon tea a treat. Ok, the beach directly in front of the hotel has eroded but the beach either side was lovely. Adrian, the taxi driver was excellent and very reliable.

This amazing hotel lived up to its reputation. The team really do create a beautiful, serene and luxurious holiday experience. The breakfast menu is vast, complimentary afternoon tea a delight and dinner in the restaurant truly stunning, the food, service and setting made for memorable meals. Our Ocean View Suite gave us the best of both worlds with views of both the beautiful blue Caribbean Sea and the wonderful tropical gardens. Snorkelling around the reef looking at the beautiful fish and swimming with turtles were experiences we will remember for a long time. We would most definitely hope to return one day.
