Cobblers Cove in Speightstown, Barbados

Wind rustles through white plantation shutters at Cobblers Cove, a country manor on the west coast of Barbados where life carries an air of its colonial past. Afternoons pause for English tea in the Great House pavilion, tropical fruit accompanying delicate scones. Each morning, resident fisherman Barker sets out for the day’s catch – join him if you'd like – to be served up at the restaurant awarded best in the country by the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association.

Lounge by the turquoise sea, lost in the West Indies’s pace of life. Take a kayak to the sand bar and drift away the morning. Catch an afternoon cricket game. In the balmy breeze, sip on a Bajan rumrunner made with muddled banana and garnished with a hibiscus flower. Dine on olive-crusted mahi-mahi with cinnamon plantains at an oceanfront table.

This is a well established hotel on the west coast of Barbados. The staff are really friendly and it’s right on the beach with a restaurant and pool that are right next to the sand. Garden rooms don’t have sea view but the ground floor ones have a great terrace/ lawn to relax on and the upper ones have terraces. The sea views are fantastic but they are often near the restaurant or sun loungers/pool so many aren’t as private. The restaurant is also really good and you could easily eat in for all meals for a whole week or more and not be bored and enjoy every meal. Will be back.

Home away. Cosy. Caribbean breezes sway you. Quaint, elegant. All of these words and terms describe Cobblers Cove. The property gently draws you in without you even knowing it. Suddenly you're sipping on a Cobbler's Cooler on the deck awaiting your Barker's Catch of the Day for lunch, then you're snapping selfies in the gorgeous gardens or you're midway through a yoga session in the Lazybones Pavillion taking in the salty air. As you're walking back to your room Greg checks in on you to make sure you're ok and if you need anything. After a stretch you look at your watch and it's time for your massage with Carla. You're so relaxed that you head back to your bed that hug your entire body smelling of lavender and juniper. It's now dinner time and what's that I hear in the distance? Sweet music by the bar. "Hey Virgil, I'm feeling adventurous. How about a Cobbler's Rum on the rocks?" Nothing like that 12 year old smoothness. Barbados sure knows their rum! Then it's off to be seated at dinner, right by the sea. The nights are cooler. I suggest you try the seafood dishes, no the duck, wait...the steak, it's honestly all very good. There's nothing more relaxing that a full weekend of zero e-mails, no television or even checking your watch. Front desk keeps you up to date on your activities. Cobblers Cove takes you away, quietens your soul and places you back in touch with what matters most, all the while taking care of your every need. I'm a local who just had a weekend getaway. If I feel like this I can't imagine how a visitor must feel. If you visit this beautiful property...arrive, open your eyes and heart and welcome what will be a truly unforgettable experience.

This was our first visit to Cobblers Cove. New Year's Eve was especially good with so much effort put in by Will Oakley and his staff. It was a very special evening. We arrived on 27th December for one week. I wish we had booked 2 weeks. We will definitely be back .

Cobblers cove does it again ! We were lucky enough to return to our favourite holiday destination for Christmas. Stunning setting, beautiful rooms and excellent food, with friendly and professional staff who made our Christmas holiday one to remember and one that we want to repeat next year. The hotel is small and unique offering a great level of service. Would totally recommend this hotel if you want to relax within a unpretentious luxury surroundings, there are great water sports on offer too. Wish I was there drinking a Rum sour !

Difficult to find any hotel anywhere to beat this place under Will's expert hand. He and his team make it feel like a private house party. Forget Sandy Lane or any fancy pants place this is the best...Don't tell anyone in case it becomes too popular!
