Santani Wellness Resort & Spa in Sri Lanka
Designed from top to bottom to promote relaxation and contemplation, Santani Wellness Resort & Spa is nestled in the mountains of Sri Lanka. Named for the Sanskrit word meaning “in harmony with”, it is this hotel’s true belief that sustainable wellness begins by bringing oneself into balance with nature and by allowing ourselves to receive nurture from ourselves as well as from others. Guest accommodations are deliberately minimal, yet stylish and utterly comfortable. Premium amenities allow for luxurious comfort. To further support the efforts to ‘reset,’ guest rooms do not have televisions. While digital detox is a key component of the Santani experience, the hotel does offer in-room Wi-Fi on demand. These private retreats invite guests to rest, relax or meditate while inhaling the pure fresh air and taking in the pristine, truly inspiring backdrop around you.
The hotel has brought together the latest innovations in health science from around the world to harmonize with the most effective treatments among the rich heritage of Ayurveda in Sri Lanka. This is a place for true relaxation. The tri-level spa tucked into the hillside’s natural contours is Sri Lanka’s first full-fledged destination spa, with the first-ever comprehensive hydrotherapy facilities in the country. For those looking to explore the beautiful surroundings there are many excursions available –from the exciting and thrilling to the relaxed and calm. Why not try a quick hike across the river to visit the Kukul Oya Waterfalls or visit the Galmaduwa Temple. Golf lovers can tee off at Victoria Golf Club, Sri Lanka’s most scenic golf course. It is an award-winning Donald Steel designed masterpiece sprawled among the hills and bordering the Victoria reservoir. There is something to do for everyone. When hunger strikes, whether you like juicing, vegetarian, vegan and raw foods or if you simply prefer heartier traditional cuisine, Santani offers you variety of choices which are yours to make among our nutritious and delicious food served.

Reviews for Santani Wellness Resort & Spa
Placed beautifully on top of the mountains the views are stunning. waking up as the early morning fog is lifting is magic. Here you will find peace, good food and friendly staff. We opted to eat vegetarian that was tasty. Special mention of the desserts that were done to perfection. Sorbet and Ice cream up there with the best. We enjoyed yoga twice daily and treatments every afternoon. This place will only get better with time as it matures.

We bought our package through Luxury Escapes for the 3 nights and so pleased we did. We finished our Sri Lankan trip here to chill and this is a great place to chill. The food was second to none. Small portions yet plenty of food. All fresh and gourmet. The juices are delicious. You would pay an arm and a leg in Australia for the food quality. All in a spectacular setting. We miss it already. Complimentary massages were great, and access to the Steam Room, Sauna and Yoga sessions was utilised and welcome. I even purchased another massage its so good. The staff are very accommodating and professional. We arrived late for the New Years Eve festivities and stayed for 3 three nights. If you can stay for longer I recommend you do. 3 nights is a minimum to get the benefit. The accommodation is well thought out and creates a feeling of openness. The bed was comfy, mosquito nets included. Although I can't remember seeing a mozzie here. The soaps and toiletries are divine. The facilities are modern yet tastefully understated. The caution is make sure you have a driver who knows where you are going. The resort is well off the main roads and this provides its uniqueness. Santani will provide you with maps and there are signposts (although difficult to see at night). My suggestion for travellers is to get there well before dusk. The scenery is spectacular and better appreciated in daylight. Highly recommended and you will not regret it. Thanks to Mahesh and the all the staff a BIG thanks to chef Wajira.

We travel extensively, always at Four Seasons / Aman / Peninsula level properties. We have been all over the world, but this was our first time in Sri Lanka. Santani is an incredible place to decompress, spend time alone with your loved ones, and improve your health. I've often thought to myself, wouldn't it be incredible if I could have a world class chef to prepare delicious, portion-controlled, healthy meals for me every day so that I wouldn't have to think about making those meal choices myself. This is Santani. When you factor in the 3 delicious meals a day into the room price, I think Santani is a downright bargain. An equivalent wellness retreat in Europe or the US would cost 3x as much. Daily schedule is very simple -- wake up, have incredible breakfast, go hiking, have incredible lunch, relax by the pool or get spa treatments, 4pm yoga, relax, incredible dinner, bed. There is wifi in your villa, but not in the common areas of the hotel. So if you need to be constantly connected or you get bored easily, you might want to reconsider. The staff was totally on point, helpful and caring. Hotel management really takes pride in what they are doing at Santani. This is a really special place. One caveat -- it's a 3.5 - 4 hour drive from CMB airport to the hotel. I would strongly suggest timing your flights so that you can catch a Cinnamon Air flight from CMB to Kandy instead of dealing with bumpy roads for a few hours.

Iāve stayed in some of the best hotels around the world and this has to be in the top three. We were lucky enough to meet the owner Vickum, serious delight! The place is so serine! If you want to relax and stare at green mountains and hear nothing but condors squawk this is the place. The food is incredible and the spa is another level! The architecture won the Geoffrey Bawa award and you can see why. It is like the most welcoming James Bond villain den. In the best way possible. I know this sounds too much this write up but when you visit you will understand why Iām writing this! Oh and the challahs!!!! So private and so tasteful! Will finish here but if you are in Sri Lanka this will be your highlight like it was ours.
We stayed there for three nights just last month and wished I had better sense to book for four nights if not five. I love the way their owners put so much thought in the design and placement of the buildings. Minimalism at its most thoughtful. The location on the ridge meant the rooms were well-placed to have great views of the valley and nature was right at the doorstep. We slept so well. Went to bed with the stars and insect songs and woke up to foggy mornings and birdsongs. Weather was perfect. The restaurant served up indulgent meals. I must say the coffee and teas were rather insipid. It'll be nice too if they had decaf but maybe that's too much to ask for. Just good coffee would be wonderful. Lazavva? The road up is hard for drivers if they don't allow more time. It's is about 1.5 hour drive from Kandy Central and the last kilometre is rocky so it means slow going. Road markings are available but can be a bit confusing. If you take the train to Kandy, they offer a car to pick you up (for a fee, I think). Their spa lost that last star for us. It's pretty cramp and the whole entry concept and lounge concept was missing. The thermal pool was tiny and if there's someone there already, you just don't want to go in without feeling like you are sharing your bathtub with a stranger. The toweling situation was a mess. I think it was not such a great idea to use those thick towelling bathrobes (linen ones are better) because washing the oils off are hard even in modern conditions. That meant fresh clean towels and bathrobes were still stained and half wet. Prices at the spa are high and they didn't match the service we got. A few of the rooms were noisy from the kitchen aircon condensers and the condensor building near the pool unfortunately. I think it would be lovely if they could add an afternoon tea service. And if they had a written up menu on the board would be great. Otherwise you are constantly asking for their options for food.
