About the Hotel

Designed from top to bottom to promote relaxation and contemplation, Santani Wellness Resort & Spa is nestled in the mountains of Sri Lanka. Named for the Sanskrit word meaning “in harmony with”, it is this hotel’s true belief that sustainable wellness begins by bringing oneself into balance with nature and by allowing ourselves to receive nurture from ourselves as well as from others. Guest accommodations are deliberately minimal, yet stylish and utterly comfortable. Premium amenities allow for luxurious comfort. To further support the efforts to ‘reset,’ guest rooms do not have televisions. While digital detox is a key component of the Santani experience, the hotel does offer in-room Wi-Fi on demand. These private retreats invite guests to rest, relax or meditate while inhaling the pure fresh air and taking in the pristine, truly inspiring backdrop around you.

An Unforgettable Wellness Experience at Santani

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

My stay at Santani Wellness Kandy was truly a beautiful and transformative experience. From the peaceful surroundings and incredible nature to the thoughtful wellness approach, every detail made the journey special. A heartfelt thank you to the entire Santani team for making me feel genuinely cared for throughout my stay. A very special thank you to Dr. Iranga Amarawardana, my Ayurvedic doctor, for her exceptional care and guidance throughout my wellness journey, and to Chef Indunil — truly the best chef in the world! The food was incredible, nourishing, and definitely one of the highlights of my stay. My sincere appreciation also goes to Oshee, the Operations Manager, and Krishan, Head of Sales, for their professionalism, warmth, and hospitality. And a very special mention to Supun, Dilshan, and Nanda — you were absolutely wonderful. Your kindness, attention, and genuine care made me feel at home and added something truly special to my experience. A special thank you as well to Rahul for the yoga sessions and Samanta for the beautiful sound healing experience. Each person I met contributed in their own way to making this journey unforgettable. What I loved most about Santani is that it is not simply a place to stay — it is a journey that encourages you to slow down, reconnect with yourself, and return home with healthier habits and a different perspective. I left feeling refreshed, grateful, and inspired to continue what I started there. Thank you, Santani, for the care, warmth, and unforgettable memories. I will definitely be back.

Santani changed my definition of luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I spent one week at Santani Wellness Resort, and it was much more than a holiday or a beautiful hotel stay. It was a genuine reset — physically, mentally and emotionally. I live in Dubai, where we are surrounded by every possible definition of luxury. Santani reminded me that real luxury can be something completely different: silence, clean air, untouched nature, time, simplicity, privacy, and the opportunity to reconnect with yourself. The location is extraordinary. You are surrounded by mountains, forest and wildlife, and the architecture is beautifully integrated into the landscape rather than competing with it. Waking up in my mountain-view chalet, opening the doors and simply listening to nature became one of my favourite parts of the experience. I came specifically for an Ayurvedic wellness retreat, and I appreciated that the programme was taken seriously. This is not a place where “wellness” is simply a spa treatment added to a hotel stay. From the consultations and treatments to yoga, meditation, walks, prescribed teas and individually prepared meals, everything felt connected and purposeful. The food deserves a special mention. It is clean, thoughtful and beautifully presented, but more importantly, it supports the wellness programme. I arrived expecting that a detox-style menu might feel restrictive. Instead, I discovered new flavours, ingredients and combinations that I genuinely enjoyed and would happily continue eating at home. The treatments were another highlight. My massage with Rini was exceptional — professional, intuitive and deeply relaxing. The wellness team made me feel that I was being treated as an individual rather than simply following a standard programme. And then there are the people. The Santani team has a quiet, natural way of taking care of you. Nothing feels forced or overly formal. There is warmth, professionalism and genuine attention without disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the retreat. After one week, I left feeling calmer, lighter, clearer and much more connected to my body and mind. Even my doctor was surprised by how much some of my results had improved after the changes I made during and following the retreat, and his advice was simply to continue what I was doing. Santani is not for someone looking for nightlife, excess or conventional five-star glamour. And that is exactly why it is so special. Come here if you are ready to slow down, disconnect from noise, trust the process and give yourself the space to reset. For me, Santani proved something very simple: retreating yourself is not a luxury — sometimes it is a necessity. I arrived looking for a wellness retreat. I left with a different understanding of how I want to live. Thank you to the entire Santani team for an unforgettable week. I will definitely return.

Great view BUT…

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The property is beautiful and the staff are genuinely friendly, but unfortunately the overall experience was far more stressful than relaxing. The difficulties started before we even arrived. The booking process involved multiple website chats, WhatsApp conversations, unanswered phone calls, and took almost 24 hours to finally secure the reservation. Unfortunately, that lack of coordination continued throughout our stay. There seemed to be a lot of different people involved in looking after guests, but very little communication between them. Even relatively simple requests often meant speaking to several different members of staff, repeating the same information, or following things up more than once. We also received messages very early in the morning. There was also more noise and disturbance than we expected. Staff would sometimes congregate and talk outside the rooms, and there were a number of other inconsistencies during the stay, including no hot water one morning, very slow service at times and food that we found generally underwhelming, particularly the Sri Lankan dishes. Under different circumstances, some of these things might not have mattered quite so much. But given Santani's positioning as a high-end wellness retreat, its emphasis on peace and relaxation, and the price point, I expected a very different experience. Instead, we found that far too many things required effort or following up, and the stay was considerably more stressful, more difficult and less relaxing than anywhere else we stayed during our trip. Guests should also be aware that the rooms have no air conditioning and have open wooden slats at the top, so sleeping under a mosquito net is generally necessary. The bathrooms are also completely open to the bedroom, with no doors, which is worth knowing if you are sharing a room. There are genuinely lovely aspects to Santani. The setting is beautiful, the mountain views are wonderful and the staff themselves were warm and friendly. But unfortunately there was a real inconsistency between the experience Santani promises and the experience we actually had. For somewhere we had specifically chosen to switch off and relax, we left feeling that the stay had been much harder work than it should have been.
