Reviews for Spice Island Beach Resort

Great hotel on a lovely beach with sea view rooms.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

A very friendly hotel in exceelent condition. The real strength is the various "beach suite" rooms which open directly onto the lovely soft sandy beach dotted with trees giving shade - view from these rooms is exactly as in the photos on the website. Lovely beach to swim from and plenty of natural shade for the sun loungers on the beach. Decent restaurant and bar. We had a sea grape suite which was roomy and well furnished. I would be cautious about the various "pool suite" rooms - it looks to me as if they have no view at all and are behind individual high walls.

Excellent resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My wife and I decided to go to Grenada after very little research. We didn't know anyone and after seeing a lot of other islands, we wanted to try something new. Overall, this hotel exceeded all of our expectations and deserves a high rating. While there were some minor problems with our room key, they were always willing to assist and gave us a bottle of champagne complimentary due to the issue (as it happened more than once). The true highlight of this hotel is its customer service/workers. My special shout outs would go to Rene, Davidson (I apologize if this is not the correct spelling of his name!), and Katrina. As well, the front desk crew (I don't have specific names) also were excellent. To say that they're some of the best workers we have experienced in our travels would truly be an understatement. If there was any con in this trip it would be the menu for the restaurant. While we were always able to find a food option for dinner, it was still limited. When I spend as much as I did to come to this resort, I simply wish there was more options or another restaurant that had a different menu. Overall, I would recommend this resort if you're coming to this island. It truly deserves the 5 stars that it is rated and continues to get through ratings.

Relaxing stay on Grand Anse

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Lovely to be back at SIBR after 10 years. Many of the staff are still there and just as friendly towards their guests which is testament to the culture of the resort. Wonderful food and drinks too. The hotel is very well maintained with ample staff including a team of friendly gardeners who manicure the resort every day. Top quality equipment at the hotel. The beach is immediately accessible with great swimming and a walk along the length of Grand Anse to work off those inevitable calories! Best place to stay on Grand Anse.

Sorry, but not quite a 5-star review for you otherwise fabulous resort.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The resort and its fabulous location along the Grand Anse beach in Grenada warrant the resorts 5-star rating. However, there are aspects warranting consideration that prevent me giving a full blown 5-star review. Firstly, to the positives: The resort has seen extensive renovation. The majority of room/suites open up directly onto the beautiful white sands of the Grand Anse beach and the pristine waters of the Caribbean. We were booked into one of the Ocean front Seagrape Suites. These are generously sized with a terrasse equipped with sun loungers and a hammock (for those of you brave enough to try it out). A nice and helpful accessory was the outside flexible shower to was off any sand before re-entering your room from the beach. The beach itself, though open to the public, is spotlessly clean. There are additional sunbeds provided. Fresh beach towels are delivered to your rooms daily with additional towels available from the pool area - should these be needed. The staff are indeed a credit to the resort, and this aspect warrants recognition. We were always greeted by name (I only wish that my memory was that good). The resort has two restaurants - though only one is functional during the day. The Oliver for breakfast and evening a la carte dining, and the Sea & Surf Terrace for lunch time meals. Both prove an extensive menu choice to suite most tastes. Good quality house wine is available with meals and the bar has cold beer on tap. The grounds are immaculately maintained by the groundsmen and gardeners. We had several questions regarding various plants and the gardeners were more than happy to indulge our questions. The cleanliness of the rooms is first rate with bathroom towels changed daily (if not twice daily if used by turn down time). The quality of entertainment was very good and a great reflection of the Caribbean vibe. Some members of staff warrant our recognition and thanks for making our stay that extra special. We were always welcomed with a smile and occasional light banter and laughter by Katrina and Mikel at the restaurants. The menus were explained together with any specials of the day. Lyndonna ensured that our drinks were regularly refreshed and quickly compensated for any excessive "evaporation". On the beach Jamal kept us (and others) constantly supplied with cold towels and drinks. He must cover a good several miles a day - no joke in high heat. Thank you to you all for making our stay that extra bit special. You are remembered fondly. The front desk staff were also first rate (sorry for not remembering your names. We were always greeted by name and great help provided regarding access to St George and other local attractions. Our thanks also for accommodating our late check-out request. Now turning to some aspects that warrant consideration and improvement: 1. The Spa is pretty basic. OK a range of treatments are offered, but the Spa has no separate pool nor therapeutic water treatments such as showers or whirlpool/jacuzzi. I did not fine a steam room nor sauna either. Something of a missing for a 5-star resort methinks? The cost of the Spa treatments is also high by European Standards. This may explain the apparent relatively low usage - I had no problem booking my treatment and the bookings log look rather spars. 2. There is a lack of restaurant choice throughout the day. Yes, there are two restaurants with a good (no - GREAT) menu selection but only one is functional during the day. Perhaps operating a beachside grill or adding an additional "themed" restaurant at the Eastern end of the resort should be given consideration? 3. Food was occasionally served cold. There is a single kitchen servicing The Oliver and Sea & Surf dining areas. I suspect that this was down to to the kitchen being overstressed with orders. The delivery of cold food was definitely NOT down to the serving staff. Again, perhaps consideration should be given to expanding kitchen facilities? By way of moderation, the dishes provided were fabulous - thankyou chef Brenda. 4. The lunchtime menu at Sea & Surf is fixed for the week. Whilst the selection of meal options is good, perhaps consideration should be given to changing this menu a few times over the course of the week to enable guests more choice? 5. The Oliver menu, whilst changing daily, repeats at the end of the week. This can become "samey" for guests staying for longer vacations. 6. More grill an BBQ opportunities please !!! I trust that Resort Management take the above observations and suggestions positively as these are aspects that let down your otherwise fabulous resort. They are not meant as outright criticisms. We would definitely consider returning and would not hesitate to recommend the Spice Island Resort to others. With our sincerest thanks to you all for a fabulous and memorable stay.

Lovely location with some small disappointments

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Beachside room has superb outlook but room more 4 than 5 star quality (on our leaving day we were moved to a walled bungalow with own pool and "sea glimpses" - that's definitely 5 star). We had issues with shower - low pressure that we thought was eco driven but in fact just blocked. When addressed, the solution was scalding water. When we complained about that, it ended up cold water only. When they eventually called in a proper plumber, we ended up with a good shower on day 8. By describing the restaurant as "fine dining", they invite criticism. Main courses choice were often only 3, and often some perfectly good meat or fish was obliterated in powerful sauces, rather as fine dining started in the 1990s. It took me a long time to realise I could ask for sauce on the side. Beware the rum with a brand name 73 - this means 73 percent alcohol, not 73 degrees proof!!!
