Reviews for Stoweflake Mountain Resort & Spa

Not what I was expecting

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Got the massage here, wasn’t cheap about 400 bucks spent for rude service and the massage to be horrible. Also was finished before the time that we had chosen. Do not recommend this place for their massages. Snobby workers, way over priced for service given! Unfortunate

A comfortable stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

What the Stoweflake is not: Brand new and extremely modern. What the Stoweflake is: A comfortable spot to stay in Stowe that is wonderfully located in town with an amazing staff. We booked a room over several nights for the 2024 total solar eclipse. We were pretty skeptical of the awaiting experience given several of the other reviews on this site, but were pleasantly surprised. Our king room was comfortable for sleeping, but also had a fireplace, desk to work at, table for two to have coffee or a meal, and an oversized lounge chair. The bathroom vanity had double sinks and there was a shower, jetted tub, and water closet for the toilet. The hotel offers a continental breakfast, which while we were there consisted of prepackaged muffins, granola bars, and danishes, boiled eggs, oatmeal packets, yogurt, and fresh fruit. They also set out hot water/tea and coffee. The lobby/breakfast area has several tables, a fire place, and additional couches and chairs for spending time. They have puzzles and a variety of games to play. The location is so great. You can park your car and walk to several wonderful restaurants and breweries. You also have easy access to the Recreational Path, which can take you further into nature or into the lower part of Stowe with additional restaurant/brewery/activity options. The Stoweflake staff really made the visit great. When we checked in, their key card system was down, and was down for the majority of our stay. What that meant was that anytime you needed to get to your room, a staff member would have to let you in. Everyone hustled to make sure guests had ready access to their rooms. The good news, the key card system works again (and we enjoyed our 12 hours of key card access). The bottom line is that Stoweflake needs some upgrades, but in the meantime offers comfortable accommodations at an appropriate price point.

Dingy, dirty, lots of issues currently

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Dingy, dirty room. The room was dingy and dirty. Curtains only covered about 50% of the window so no privacy on a ground floor motel style room. They did not have keys for the rooms so you had to ask to be let in every time you came back. This included shouting your room number across the lobby which could’ve been a sketchy security incident. Housekeeping never cleaned while we were there. I understand setting high prices for a one off event like the eclipse weekend, but if you are going to charge 800+ /night for a room, it should at least have a working key, a curtain, and have housekeeping come by.

Not a great experince

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Disappointed in the room and bathroom preparation, as it appeared the cleaning staff missed this room. The rooms near the pool and spa smelled of chlorine. The resort is in a good location for skiers, they provided a continental breakfast for early skiers and the desk staff was helpful.

Pleasant way to spend a weekend at Stowe

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

After seeing so many one star reviews, I was a bit reluctant to stay at the Stoweflake, however I was pleasantly surprised. Let me start with the bad stuff: Yes, the decor is dated; people looking for a trendy hotel with cool "vibes" will want to look elsewhere. Yes the parking lot is full of potholes (as is common in Vermont), and yes the sauna is currently not working. However, they do have a full-time maintenance guy who is working on the various problems. I found my standard king room in the 400 block had a slightly musty smell, which I suspect is due to people using the shower without adequately using the bathroom exhaust fan. The complimentary mini fridge was also too loud at night, so I unplugged it and left the door open. The trip lever in my bathtub (which allows the bathtub to be filled up) was also not working, which was annoying as I would have liked to soak in my tub after a long day of skiing. I spoke with the staff and they mentioned that in a year or two, the Stoweflake will be joining a large hotel chain (I think either Hilton or Marriot), which will provide the resources to update and upgrade the hotel. Now, for the good stuff: For around $150/night + some fees, I got a clean, comfortable bed, in a clean, cozy, quiet room equipped with blackout shades. I appreciated the indoor pool, outdoor hot tub, fitness center, and squash court, as well as ample parking near most parts of the hotel. The hotel is basically a large square that is two stories high, with little small lounges spaced intermittently. The main lobby near the front desk has a real wood fireplace which is tended by the receptionist. Continental breakfast (hard boiled eggs, instant oatmeal, coffee, bagels, etc...) is served from 7-10AM. The Stoweflake is an easy 5-10 minute drive from Stowe depending on traffic conditions, and one can also take the frequent shuttle busses for skiers. The alchemist brewery, is nearby (~2 mins), as are several restaurants. All in all, I would say this hotel is a pleasant, affordable place to stay in Stowe. I would definitely come back.
