We had a wonderful spa getaway weekend. Everything was wonderful from the welcoming check-in with a good bag for the dog to the spa and fantastic food at the restaurant. The grounds are lovely and there are plenty of activities if you don’t want to just relax and hot tub your cares away. We are already thinking about when we can book our next getaway.

I was very much looking forward to some indulgent R&R at the Topnotch Spa, and while both services I received were excellent, I was disappointed by the customer service experience which was lacking in the management and reception departments. My therapist was 10 minutes late for an 80 minute massage (I had arrived 30 minutes ahead of my appointment) and by the time the massage started, it was 15 minutes behind schedule. I ended up paying for an 80 minute massage and only received 65 minutes of service. When I informed reception that the massage therapist was late, they went to get the therapist but did nothing to address the lost time. No apology, acknowledgement or follow up. Working in administration and management myself, I was disappointed that the management team didn’t take ownership or steps to compensate or discount the experience. Given the very expensive prices of these services, I would expect nothing less than an excellent customer service team who account for great and poor experiences all while keeping the client at the forefront. Sadly, as a result of this experience, I would recommend exploring other spa options in the Stowe area before booking here.

We spent three days here and found it to be very nice, but pretty limited. My last visit was in summer 2017, and my feelings have remained consistent: the property and facilities are beautiful, but there aren’t many spaces to lounge or hang out, and not enough dining options. I saw another review noting that if it were a Hampton Inn, it might make more sense. But, for a resort, it feels cramped and doesn’t offer some of the basic comforts of the price point. Speaking of price points- the situation with the restaurant, the Roost, is not good. The resort has this one tiny restaurant attached to the lobby, and it’s very disappointing. The prices are crazy (and we live in Boston!); we paid $6 for a cup of milk for our toddler and my husband’s basic cocktail was $20. The menu is really limited if you aren’t leaving the property several times per day to eat elsewhere. We had more meals there than we would have liked, and it was a comedy of errors: every single order had an omission: no spoon for soup; no butter and jam for toast; cheese in a grilled cheese wasn’t melted; they forgot the salad dressing. Minor stuff, but irritating because of how expensive the meals were and how easily the mistakes could have been avoided given that multiple people look at orders before they arrive at the table. The service was highly variable-one evening, we were seated at a table and we waited 15 minutes before a waiter even greeted us. It’s just not a nice feeling when you’re sort of obligated to eat there if you need a quick bite with kids in tow. That said, the beds were comfy and we loved the indoor pool. I had an excellent massage, too. Overall, it was a nice stay- but next time, we think we’ll go back to our tried-and-true Vermont weekend getaway, the Woodstock Inn.

I stayed here over New Year's - the bed was incredibly cozy. However, the front desk staff was very rude. When we asked (1x) what time the shuttle runs for skiing they informed us they didn't have a helicopter to check where the bus was and it would be here when it got here. We were shocked to say the least. The food was really subpar. The spa was dirty - brushes with hair in them, mold in the steam room... Half of the facilities in the spa were broken. This place was really run down, which is unfortunate as it has a lot of potential.

Topnotch Resort lives up to its name. Super friendly staff made us feel welcome from beginning to end. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Indoor heated pool and hot tub were nice after a long day of skiing. Beautiful view from the patio outside the restaurant. Really good high end bar fare. Lamb burger is a must try. Fire place outside for the kids to toast s’mores. Will definitely stay here again!
