Streamsong Caddie

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Place was awesome, course in good condition. Black was tough, red and blue were good. I can't say enough good things about my caddie MJ. MJ is very experienced about the game and has even better course knowledge. He knows every single read on the greens and is an incredible person with great personality. He coached a 6 handicap to a 69 on red. Best caddie I have ever had. Highly recommend requesting him to guide you through the round.

Overpriced - under value , not up to the standards of other expensive resorts

Very disappointed in this place. The hotel was terribly overpriced. Seemed like a Marriott for $600. The food was mediocre at best. Had to send back the steak at the steakhouse. Golf was extremely hard. That was fine, but the condition was just ok. Not groomed at all and like playing on Mars. Caddies were atrocious. Lazy and uninformed. I wanted to know not only the distance, but also where to miss my shots and where to aim. Way over the head of the caddies who only were worried about putts breaking two cups right.

Top notch in most respects; food lags a bit

Really nice infrastructure - hotel is modern, sleek but still feels warm and welcoming - we all thought it was a lot like the Liberty National club house. Rooms were modern, well equipped and comfortable. Nice views everywhere. All staff throughout the property were super friendly and responsive. Couldn’t have been nicer. Only thing not quite up to par was the food. Steakhouse sides and salad/apps were good, but steak itself was not very good - despite the server playing up how great Debraggo of New York steaks are (I live in NY and frequent the best butchers - Lobel’s/CItarellas and steak houses - never heard of a Debraggo steak); that said the crème broule corn and other sides and salads and such were top notch. Again though I cannot overstate how friendly and accommodating every single staff member we met was. It was really notable. Be sure to hit the hotel roof bar at or right after sunset or after dinner. It is a fun scene with great views. The golf itself? Our unanimous preferences in order were Red, Blue, BLack. We really liked the red course. Good layout, playable (Maybe too short from the silver tees - multiple 300 yard par 4s), water kept it interesting but not too much. Blue was similar. Black we didnt like at all. 3/4 of the shots are blind, so the pace is slow and it’s annoying standing on the tee and not see the flag time after time. Plus there are no digital maps on the cart or a hole layout at the tee so you really have no idea where the hole is going. Also not much water on black (lots of huge waste bunkers instead) and some tee boxes were kind of ratty. Also note it can get quite hot. 90+ degrees each day so we opted to ride instead of walk. Two of the days had a good breeze and not much humidity, so was overall pretty tolerable. But if it so hot in early May I would be careful about June, let along July or August if you are heat sensitive.

Great golf courses, played at a 5 hour pace

I had been looking forward to Streamsong for a long time. The resort itself is what I expected, mostly. It is EXTREMELY remote. You are there for golf, not much more. Lots of bros, not a sniff of a family and occasional wives hanging around the pools. The lodging was nice. Everything was overpriced, but the idea was to pay the premium to pay some amazing golf courses. The courses were very very nice. There were some areas under repair, mostly fairways that looked a bit dead or diseased. All of the green surfaces were great. I know there is a lot of debate, but my favorite was the Black course as it has the best putting surfaces and interesting holes. Very wide fairways, gigantic greens, and everything was in near perfect condition. Red and blue had very similar looks and were also nice, but the greens were bumpier and they had more of a links-like feel as opposed to the unique feel of black. All three courses were extremely memorable. My biggest complaint, aside from the prices which I expected, was the pace of play. I played all three courses. 4:50, 4:55, and 5:10. On most par 3s, I was watching the group in front of me hit tee shots and waiting 15 minutes. The management seemed to do very little about it. On my last round, the 5+ hour one, it would have been 5:30 if I had not suggested to the ranger that the group two in front of us, which had at least 2 clear holes in front of them (and they were all very drunk and loud and didn't seem to care about their pace), move them along to the next hole. Finally the ranger called in backup to move them up a hole, but this was on 17. Too little too late. I am OK to pay a lot to play a unique course. A slow round, 4:20, 4:30, I understand, with foursomes on a tough course and plenty of very average and below average golfers drinking all day. But one of my rounds was an 8:33, maybe the 5th or 6th group out, and it was still 4:55. I don't have the answer for the pace of play issue, but waiting several minutes to hit every shot is just not an enjoyable experience. Maybe this is typical for golf destination resorts and I am just spoiled from playing my CC in 4 hours at MOST. Is it? I loved the holes, the land is so unique and the designs were impeccable. Crenshaw, Coore, Doak, Hanse put a lot of beautiful work in here, and the courses deserve to be better managed than this.

Ended before it even began….

Stayed here a few times for junior golf events. Thought it would be the same good time with my son and his college roommates. Tried to make res through website. Didn’t work. Tried to reserve over the phone. Didn’t work. Spoke to a different person the next day. Didn’t work. Told me I had to pay hundreds more. So I asked for manager to call me. They said no manager on property on a Sunday, but the manager would call me the next day. No call. No reservation. Nothing. How does this place stay in business? If I was the owner, I’d clean house. PS - my neighbor, who I recommended to m this place, confirmed his reservation before arrival only to find out he had no reservation and was forced to stay 45 minutes away. Yeah, they comped everything, but they couldn’t makeup the hours he lost behind the wheel with his entire foursome. Quite a memorable experience ….
