Perfect Christmas and New Year stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

We had a long stay over Christmas and New Year during our visit to Australia. What a fantastic stay!! Location - perfect on Cowper Wharf - 2 minutes from the Botanical Gardens on one side (this was our favourite morning walk), the Navy shipyard on the otherside. 15 mins walk from the Cathedral and the city centre. 10 mins from Potts Point and only 5 mins in a taxi from Surry Hills and Circular Quay. Rooms - very spacious, clean with everything you need - mini bar, kettle, ironing board etc. The bed was very large and comfortable. We had a bath and stand alone shower which was ideal (room 312) Staff - all were excellent, attentive (hello from everyone you walked past), Front Desk very helpful, Cleaning very good and Breakfast and Bar staff really good. Can't mention all by name, but 2 really looked after me with special coffee needs!! Ana with her Freddo Espresso and Liam with his Mont Blanc - thanks guys. Overall a faultless stay and can highly recommend The Ovolo Woolloomooloo.

Stylish Stay with Harbour Views and Easy Access

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Late Post , Ovolo Woolloomooloo truly delivered a memorable stay. From the moment we arrived, the vibe was fresh, modern, and welcoming. The rooms were thoughtfully designed, clean, and comfortable, with hints of local personality that made it feel more special than your average hotel. The location couldn’t be better: right on the water at Woolloomooloo Wharf, a short stroll from the Botanical Gardens, Opera House walks, cafes, and ferry stops. Mornings on the harbour were a highlight , perfect coffee views with the girls. Service was warm and genuine. Staff greeted us with smiles and helpful tips on where to explore next, which always makes a difference when you’re roaming around a city. If there’s one thing to note, it’s that some rooms are more spacious than others, and views vary but that’s usual for heritage properties with character. Still, overall we felt the experience was worth the 4/5 rating, especially for the location, energy, and friendly service. Ovolo Woolloomooloo is great for families who want a stylish base to explore Sydney without feeling like they’re stuck in a cookie-cutter hotel.

Trying to be "Cool" but missing the basics

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Chose this hotel for the location - I needed to be close to Potts Point, and it was perfect. The Pros: the location; well-furnished, good-size rooms; and a spatious bathroom with a good bath. The Cons: many. For starters, I found the bed very uncomfortable - the blanket seemed to be in a constant mood for a fight, and the mattress cover formed a ridge that happened to be right in the middle of the pillow. Not great for a good night's sleep. The taps in the bathroom (both the shower and the sink) were extremely temperamental - unless you turn both in perfect sync, the flow of water from one side blocked the other, and you ended up either with cold water or scolding hot. Adjusting the temperature was an art - rotating a tap by a mere millimetre could flip the water from cold to scolding hot, or vice versa. I've only ever seen taps like behave this in really cheap 1960s apartments in Sydney, so seeing it in a supposedly 5* hotel was a surprise. Both sets of taps were dripping unless you turned them shut super-tight. Shower head was held up by black tape. Also, the floor of the shower was covered in soap scum, makes you wonder about how well the housekeeping cleans the rooms. The restaurant leaves a lot to be desired: extremely limited menu and astronomical prices for tiny serves (e.g. $26 for two tostadas, each one basically a single bite). The menu itself was well short of what one would expect at a 5* hotel. The room had very limited lighting. Not a problem during the day, but good luck trying to read at night. I even found working on my laptop in the evening difficult because I could barely see the keys on the keyboard. On multiple occasions I saw children riding bicycles inside the building and grown-ups bringing dogs to the pool area, with staff showing no concern. Is this part of being "cool"? If so, I would rather stay at a more boring hotel. The other annoying feature was Ovolo spamming you with pointless communications. Some seemed practical - e.g. one of the messages offered me to complete the check-in before arrival, which seemed like a reasonable idea. However, on arrival I had to go through all the same check-in steps in person anyway, so the "pre-checkin" was simply a waste of my time. Also, I was meticulous about NOT ticking the "Send me spam" box, but despite this I ended up being subscribed to Ovolo's spam e-mails. Again, if Ovolo thinks that uninvited attention-seeking is "cool", I beg to differ. The final peeve was reading the review responses from the hotel on this site. Ovolo management routinely responds to critical reviews as "Hey" / "Hi there". What?? This isn't cool, it's boorish, and definitely a nail in the coffin of my future relationship with this chain.

This is a hotel that has a great location, but the service is woeful. The general number rings with no answer the hours are unpredictable. its all a bit odd really.

A unique hotel set on a historic pier with bold interior design. Spacious rooms and water views make the stay feel special and memorable.
