Reviews for Sir Stamford at Circular Quay
This hotel has the feel of a gentleman's club. I haven't stayed there but had dinner there last night as part of a group. The food was nothing spectacular but the service was attentive. Unfortunately, when I was leaving I had to wait about 10 minutes for the concierge to reappear to retrieve my umbrella from the cloak room. I'm prepared to try it again on my way to the Opera House as it is on the way.
The Hotel have an amazing decoration. The bed is amazing. Everything about it is just amazing. Love it. Worth every penny. Easy access by train (circular quay) very near to Opera House & Botanical garden

A warm welcome and an impressive entrance. Huge rooms, well furnished but with a slightly faded opulence, equally grand bathrooms with L'Occitane toiletries, and a large balcony looking down to Circular Quay. Good wi fi. All staff at the concierge desk were friendly, responsive and very helpful. Excellent location: within minutes on foot from Circular Quay and ferries, the Opera House, The Rocks and George St. shops.

Stayed at the Sir Stamford for two nights over a weekend, due to it's location near the Circular Quay railway station (5 minute walk), we arrived by train from Sydney airport. We were greeted by friendly and courteous staff. Check in was easy, our room was on the 9th floor overlooking the park and had a view of the Opera House from the balcony. The room and bathroom were a good size, comfortable and clean also nice and quiet. The bar is a great place for a drink and or a meal, apart from breakfast we didn't eat in the main restaurant. This hotel is well appointed and quaint. Would stay there again.

Well, since 2004 my husband and often would come to town, enjoy the opera and stay at the Sir Stamford. It was always a magical old lady, suburb service, live piano in the bar after the opera, beautiful spacious room, Juliette balcony, overlooking Hyde park. A joyous evening! We haven’t been for about three, maybe four years, my husband being elderly and having many medical issues. I had a guest coming from overseas to meet up with for dinner so decided to stay in town (we live over 75klms from the city). What a disappointment! It has certainly gone down hill since our last visit. Although requesting a high floor, park view, something I always requested I was given high floor, view of the building next door! Couldn’t be changed, despite request. The whole room was definitely shabby, deeply scratched coffee table right down one side, corner table also scratched. Shower above the bath, definitely a hazard waiting to happen for elderly guests, the bathroom needed a good clean, marks on the floor left over from the previous guests, mound in the tiles. Sheets were at least clean and the pillows comfortable. But the piece de resistance was....on arrival I was asked for my Visacard, which I had already given on my booking with the hotel, then they proceeded to process the total nightstay amount, plus $100 deposit...which I questioned...obviously in case I skipped out without paying my mini bar (which I never use) or my parking or whatever else. They already had my Visa card. I was thoroughly disgusted. Yes, I agree, in this day and age there are probably a lot of unscrupulous people around but is an elderly lady along time guest of the hotel going to have wild parties, swing from the chandeliers and skip without paying? I was thoroughly insulted, it inferred t was not to be trusted.
