About the Hotel

We’re family-owned and our passion shows. Cala Luna is one of the only hotels in Guanacaste, Costa Rica that remains green all year round. There are few barriers between us and nature. Open-plan spaces and secluded accommodations meld into the lush jungle that attracts more wildlife than anywhere else in the area – monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, birds, insects, and us. Within this natural retreat, we offer five-star barefoot luxury that’s open to everyone. We nourish our senses daily through delicious home-grown ingredients, gastronomic farm-to-table dinners, holistic wellness, spa therapies, and deep connection to Mother Earth. From dining with us at our homestead La Senda and walking the world’s largest labyrinth, to sipping cocktails on the beach as the sun slips over the edge of the ocean – you choose the memories to carry home. Welcome to an unforgettable experience.

Reviews for Cala Luna Boutique Hotel

Best serene, luxury resort near Tamarindo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

From the moment I was dropped off at Cala Luna I was continually amazed at how the experience just got better and better. Each room is its own single villa, surrounded by the lush forest, and just steps from a most beautiful and sandy beach. The sunsets are incredible. The rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable. The tubs are large enough for about 5 people! The food was fresh right from their very own farm. The dishes were works of art every single time. The staff was warm and gracious and nothing was ever too much for them. They got back to me with my requests quickly and with ease. The pool area was sweet, with a few private areas tucked away from others. It is easy to be lazy and relax at Cala Luna but if you want to move, walks on the beach both north and south directions go on forever. It was nice to be about a 15 minute walk from Tamarindo and be secluded but close enough to town to get there quickly. But trust me, you won't want to leave the property. It is just magical.

Good but not great

Hotel lobby area is very nice. Rooms are very nice 4 star (stayed in getaway suite). Pool is very nice - big and good temp but area around pool is small and crowded. On windy days the pool would get significant amount of debris from surrounding trees and no effort was made to remove debris during the day. If you are looking for a good beach this is not the spot for you. While scenery at the beach is beautiful, it is very rocky and not swimmable. The sunsets are gorgeous. You can walk 15 min by beach to Tamarindo beach where you can swim (but not convenient). The grounds are extremely well kept and walkways to rooms are beautiful. You often see monkeys. Restaurants - Origins was a disappointment with most dishes having Caribbean spices and few options without. Service was average. Breakfast buffet was “meatless” unless you pay extra for bacon. Bring reusable water bottles as you pay for minibar water - there are filtered water stations at pool and lobby. This is not an adult only resort so be prepared for kids in the pool.

Best choice for yoga retreats in Costa Rica

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My yoga studio puts on 3 international retreats per year. We change up the locations for spring & fall, but we always return to Cala Luna each January. We have made this beautiful hotel a tradition and our clients continue to come back again & again. From the business side, Carol & Silvia in group sales are fantastic. Warm, professional, patient and creative. My favorite people to work with. Easy communication & deep knowledge of area. When something feels stale after a few years, they step right in with new ideas & itinerary support. The food & restaurant staff are outstanding. The food is fresh, delicious & loved by our clients. Flor & Steven are tenured professionals who take very good care of the morning crowd & our lunches. Mura was in charge of our evening service. She was patient, friendly and warm. Too many staff to name, but they are all so skilled. Papaya ceviche, new pizzas, and the brisket are stand-outs. And fries by the pool with passion fruit bbq sauce. The rooms are spacious & offer plenty of room for clients who want a roommate. The front desk team are so helpful & welcoming. Johny. David, Eddy, Karla, Nicole, Michael, Donovan. So many to thank. Your retreat guests will love it

Jungle Oasis

We finished our Cost Rica odyssey at the Cala Luna Boutique Hotel. We enjoyed 4 days doing nothing but sitting by the pool, walking the beach (no swimming access to ocean here), and eating. Breakfast was included, and it was a buffet with option of ordering fresh omelet or rancheros. We had dinner here twice . The catch of the day can be prepared 4 different ways. Coconut Lemongrass and Yellow Curry options were delicious. Staff very friendly.

What a relaxing beautiful hotel. The service was incredible. The food was delicious right near the beach. Total relaxation could not ask for Moore on a vacation vacation.
