Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas in Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas is so close to Costa Rica's Pacific shore that waves are the soundtrack that lulls guests to sleep. Located on a secluded section of Langosta Beach, where the sunsets are vibrantly visible and the tide rolls in over volcanic rock, Cala Luna is centrally located to the surfing mecca of Tamarindo. But the natural beauty – and daily vinyasa yoga classes in an open-air studio – makes the resort itself a place to connect with Mother Earth.

End the morning's sun salutations with a guided meditation while listening to the chatter of a nightingale thrush in the trees. Walk through an indigenous forest filled with wildlife to the beach and explore tidal pools filled with fish and crabs. Take an afternoon snorkel cruise, keeping an eye out for dolphins and breaching whales. Return for happy hour on the beach before a personalized dinner under the stars.

We stayed here for two nights in a 3 bedroom villa with a private pool and I only wish it had been longer! The staff were extremely welcoming and very accommodating and we felt instantly relaxed as soon as we walked in. You’ll be disappointed if you expect fancy sun beds by the pool and bath robes in your room but the overall vibe of this place is truly amazing. I have only felt like this at one other place and this was Birkenhead House in South Africa.

We first stayed at the diria in Tamarindo, to get a feeling of being in the center of it all. We then came to Cala Luna for 5 nights. We are so glad we did. We had a 2 bdrm villa with our own pool. Our villa was surrounded by tropical nature, we loved all of the flowers and plantains growing all around us. We were awakened daily around 5am by howler monkeys, they call out loudly, and often they would walk on our rooftop, and swing through the trees, it was so beautiful to see. The morning breakfast was so good, the best we ever experienced while traveling. I fell in love with Mango! The short walk down to the beach kept us oceanside. The service was excellent, front desk staff was so friendly. You could not make calls from your room without charges, but they would call from front desk anywhere local or U.S. for you and patch call to your room at no charge. They also arrange cab rides into Tamarindo fir only $5. They provide bikes, but the walk into town is quite easy. It provides access to various entries onto Tamarindo beach. I loved my stay, thank you to all at Cala Luna.

I stayed here last year on a girls trip and surprised my husband this year for his birthday with a trip to Tamarindo. He has never been to this area of Costa Rica and absolutely loved our stay at Cala Luna. The staff are very friendly, and the service is wonderful. It is a short walk, bike ride, or taxi to town, and we liked the privacy of the hotel and the lush grounds. We enjoyed a lot of time in our pool, and I had a wonderful facial at the spa from Maria! We used the free bikes on property to ride to town and loved the breakfast buffet each morning. If you are looking to stay at a property where you can truly relax, this would be a great spot.

Our family of four (13 & 10 year olds) enjoyed this quite exclusive location. This boutique hotel had great adjoining rooms and tasty breakfast options. The pool area allowed cooling off and relaxing quiet at the same time. The monkeys in the trees reminded us how close you were to nature at this location. The staff were lovely and helpful. The room attendants went an extra step with the towel animals they created for the beds... amazing!

Loved the relaxing, beautiful location and amenities. Great food, pool, beach. Especially loved the animals. They are lucky to have Howler monkeys in the trees, iguanas, coatimundis, racoons around the property. Excellent welcome and orientation. Great place to relax or tour.
