Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas in Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas is so close to Costa Rica's Pacific shore that waves are the soundtrack that lulls guests to sleep. Located on a secluded section of Langosta Beach, where the sunsets are vibrantly visible and the tide rolls in over volcanic rock, Cala Luna is centrally located to the surfing mecca of Tamarindo. But the natural beauty – and daily vinyasa yoga classes in an open-air studio – makes the resort itself a place to connect with Mother Earth.

End the morning's sun salutations with a guided meditation while listening to the chatter of a nightingale thrush in the trees. Walk through an indigenous forest filled with wildlife to the beach and explore tidal pools filled with fish and crabs. Take an afternoon snorkel cruise, keeping an eye out for dolphins and breaching whales. Return for happy hour on the beach before a personalized dinner under the stars.

Our stay at Cala Luna was nothing short of excellent! After reading some reviews before going we weren't expecting much from the beach on the property, but wow! The beach was beautiful, especially at sunset- which they give you a complimentary cocktail for daily. The beach is rocky and probably not swimmable, but it was much more beautiful than the main Tamarindo town beach and more secluded. The hotel is perfectly located outside the town. It's close enough for a stroll to town or a $5 cab ride but far enough that it felt like a breath of fresh air from the crowded town. Lastly, the service was excellent! Everyone who works at the hotel from the front desk to the restaurant servers to the security guards scattered around the property were unbelievably nice. They really went over the top to make sure we felt welcomed. I will definitely be recommending Cala Luna to my friends traveling to Costa Rica!

We spent five nights at Cala Luna in a private villa and what a magnificent stay it was. The breakfast by the large pool had great selection with an omelette chef. The pineapple was to die for. We also would like to give our warm thanks to the super friendly staff, from reception to restaurants. Lush gardens that gave a sense of privacy. Excellent Wi-Fi. I can not think of anything that they can improve. Maybe to have yoga everyday. Do not miss the evening drink on the beach! Beware that it is a min 10 minutes walk to the Tamarindo beach. Pura Vida!

Beautiful property, not directly on the beach, but a short walk away. A slightly longer walk to town, but the hotel will arrange transportation if desired. They will also help to arrange tours and excursions for a variety of activities. The rooms are actually individual cabanas, immaculate and comfortable, with small private patios set within the gardens and well secluded from one another. Went with our adult daughter, but there were plenty of families with small children, as well as adults only. The food at the hotel's restaurant was amazing every night, and the complementary breakfast each morning was a welcome surprise. The staff went out of their way to make sure we had an amazing stay.

I enjoyed my stay at your property. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The only thing that I was disappointed in was my friend and I booked facials on the same day at the front desk (mine was the 2nd appointment). I was 1st informed my friends treatment was running over . Then I was told it would be longer than expected and there was an error with the booking. My facial was scheduled for 2:45 and it appears they scheduled someone else for my timeslot. I was told they could take me at 5:00 which I could not do because of another engagement. Since it was their error I felt they should have still taken me after my friends treatment and informed the other party they scheduled for my slot they would be taken later. This was very poor customer service and handled poorly.

We chose Cala Luna because it was the kind of eco-luxury experience we enjoy. Having never been to Costa Rica, we picked the hotel based on description and overwhelmingly great reviews. We were not disappointed and loved every moment of our week long stay. It is truly a place where you enter vacation mode within a few hours and get more relaxed each day. The staff is friendly and attentive, but never intrusive. Highlights included morning yoga, afternoon monkey watching by the pool and beach sunsets every day. The food was consistently good and the drinks delicious. We will definitely return.
