About the Hotel

We’re family-owned and our passion shows. Cala Luna is one of the only hotels in Guanacaste, Costa Rica that remains green all year round. There are few barriers between us and nature. Open-plan spaces and secluded accommodations meld into the lush jungle that attracts more wildlife than anywhere else in the area – monkeys, raccoons, iguanas, birds, insects, and us. Within this natural retreat, we offer five-star barefoot luxury that’s open to everyone. We nourish our senses daily through delicious home-grown ingredients, gastronomic farm-to-table dinners, holistic wellness, spa therapies, and deep connection to Mother Earth. From dining with us at our homestead La Senda and walking the world’s largest labyrinth, to sipping cocktails on the beach as the sun slips over the edge of the ocean – you choose the memories to carry home. Welcome to an unforgettable experience.

It is not the first time here and it just keeps getting better with every visit! My husband and I have traveled quite a bit and agreed this is our favorite place to stay in all of Costa Rica!! Our first day, we were greeted with smiles and popsicles on a very warm day. Once we entered our room they then guided us to the free happy hour sunset at the beach. Their Natural juice with coconut rum. 🏖️ The staff treats you like family! Andres, Jeremy, Charlie, Jeffrey, Tania and Angela are just a few that made our week better than we anticipated with their infectious personalities and knowledge of the amazing menu the hotel offers. The chefs heard and met our requests which made the service top notch! The rooms were cleaned every day so when we arrived from the beach or excursions our room felt very comfortable! The grounds were impeccable and we enjoyed walking thru the hotel to bird watch and say hi to the kitties who live here. We were also very entertained by the monkeys. I can honestly say I am not a cat lover however I sure did bond with them before we left home. Every morning we were greeted with smiles and the buffet breakfast was something to look forward to with so many choices. We took advantage of the free sound bath session which made the end of our trip beautiful! Transportation is very convenient as The hotel does pick you up from the Liberia Aiport and offers shuttle Service for $6 to the main town where you will enjoy various shops, restaurants and bars. If You like to walk it was not arduous at all. We were sad to leave but look forward to returning. Thank you to EVERYONE at Cala Luna.

Organic local food in an amazing costa rica resort

Really great food, excellent choice and quality of ingredients. Super kind people and amazing location. The only thing that I would change about this experience is to lower a little bit the volume of the live music: it is great for people enjoying a drink but when eating a quiet environment is better.

Cala Luna Pura Vida!

Pura Vida! Cala Luna is breathtaking! The food is amazing! Everything is farm to table and so fresh. The staff is so helpful and friendly. They go out of their way to make sure your experience there is special and by the time you leave they are friends you will miss! The farm to table dinner that they offer at their sister property is an incredible experience and I highly recommend it! The spa treatment was the best and being outside listening to the monkeys and birds while receiving the treatments was a soulful experience. The complimentary cocktail on the beach at sunset every night brought the guests together and you became part of the Cala Luna community during your stay. Special thanks to Karol,Eddie,Andres,Daniel,Charlie,Sophia,Andrea,Walter,Jordy,Jeffrey, the amazing Chef and the rest of the staff that made our stay so enjoyable!

A special hotel we won’t forget

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We had an amazing stay at the Cala Luna. The location was perfect for a relaxing family retreat, but just a few minutes via golf cart from the charming surf town of Tamarindo. We stayed in a villa with a full kitchen and private pool, which the kids loved. The resort pool was also a big hit. Being right by the restaurant meant the kids could swim while we lingered after our breakfast or dinner, and everyone enjoyed themselves. The restaurant was also fantastic. Amazing service & food. The chef even prepared a 4 course meal with a fish we caught on our deep sea fishing trip earlier in the day. We also loved the sunsets on the beach. I’m not typically a huge sunset fan but after the first night, we planned the rest of our evenings to make sure we didn’t miss one. The Cala Luna is truly a special place and we look forward to coming back.

Worth the stay

We stayed at Cala Luna for two nights—a very beautiful boutique hotel. The room was fantastic. We had two very comfortable queen beds. The bathroom shower area was unique…like you’re showering in a sunken tub. I would have liked a rain showerhead, though. Short walk to the beach. At 5 pm, they had complementary cocktails while you watched the sunset over the Pacific. The included breakfast was top-notch. Coffee was given in a French press. Nice touch. My wife did a fantastic included yoga session. The pool was a nice size. Around the evenings, howling monkeys came by. We had dinner at their farm to table restaurant. Plenty of vegetarian options. Shout out to Jeffrey, Charlie and Andrea for the yoga.
