Reviews for Huka Lodge
New Zealand's best accommodations are found at the Huka Lodge. Five star suites and grounds, picture perfect scenery, outstanding wine list but these attributes are not what makes the Huka Lodge unique. What makes the lodge standout is the flawless service! Every individual at the lodge went the extra step to make our stay unforgettable (for example I gave my car keys to the attendant and when I asked for it back the next day it had been cleaned inside and washed outside). Every employee is friendly and helpful. When I speak of the staff I include the kitchen as the food was the best of my trip. The lodge has beautiful patio dining over looking the river but in addition has over 20 places on the grounds were dinner can be served (The wine cellar is an experience). Take a moment and walk down to the river. Although deep the water is crystal clear and one cane see every rock on the bottom. In the words of Tina Turner and Queen Elizabeth (both former guest), it's simply the best.

You like first class lodges? The Huka Lodge will top it! Perfect rooms, very friendly , helpful and competent service; you may choose your dinnertable already in the morning; one of the best cuisine in NZ.

We arrived from Wellington and were met at the door by the team. They unloaded our luggage, parked our car, and whisked us away into the lodge for drinks. We were then taken to our room (we were in room 12, a short walk away) , and given a relaxed run down of the room. The overall atmosphere is relaxed, and we were given the feeling of nothing being too much trouble. When driving, use your gps which locates it perfectly. Otherwise the understated sign outside the grounds might be missed ! Our room looked out over the grounds and the river, and the view was frankly stunning. An early morning mist over the river sort of added to our pleasure, and the weather quickly cleared that up to reveal stunning and well manicured grounds around the place. Nothing was left to chance, but the great staff and relaxed atmosphere stopped that pretentious feel you have in certain high quality places. Dinner was excellent. We sat outside both nights we stayed and were glad we did. The menu was high quality, and there were no qualms about substituting a dish for my wife on the first night. Again, the atmosphere is so incredibly cooperative from the whole team. Sitting outside was nice - although slightly chilly, the heaters and blankets turn it into a great experience. We ate breakfast inside, and I enjoyed it, but preferred the outside. As we are not wine experts, we asked for wine advice (great selection that seemed well priced) and both nights the recommendation was great. We were tired the first night and wanted to return to our room, and the staff made us up a small cheeseboard and delivered it to the room for us. I could go on and on I guess. My advice - try it. Walk the grounds and enjoy them. Enjoy the visits from the hungry ducks, and experience this great place. I believe we got what we paid for, and we really enjoyed it.

We spent 3 nights here and ate ourselves silly. The rooms are very comfortable, the grounds are picturesque and the well curated wine list was reasonably priced. However, like other Relais et Chateaux properties, excursions were prohibitively expensive. There was not a lot to do around the property and most of the sights were at least one hour's drive away. This is a very romantic lodge and would be great for a honeymoon. However, 3 nights was too much as we ate far too much delicious, rich food.

This lodge is very special. Romantic. Classy. Don't miss it!! The setting is unbelievable, our room was darling, the food was very good and the staff is perfection! Before you commit to where you want to have dinner, please be sure you explore all possibilities. You can eat in the main dining room or outside on the porch. Those are obvious. After you’re there a day you will find out that there are special little places where you can eat as well. Across the way in the winery? Upstairs and outside? Down the lawn across the bridge? So many special places! If you don’t want to take the longer 8 hour hike, there is a short one hour hike nearby where you can check out the falls. There’s also a Hot Spring nearby so take your bathing suit! We’ll definitely go back!!
