Reviews for South Coast Winery Resort & Spa

Over priced non luxury experience at south coast winery resort and spa

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Really disappointed with our stay. Passed through as a family of 4 (2 children) for a 1 night stay visiting from the UK. Feel totally ripped off. Grounds are beautiful and the location is fantastic. However the reception is extremely dated with dated old ( not classic looking just old and grubby!) sofas in reception and weathered looking facilities. This was also reflected in our villa (number 1502). The windows were absolutely filthy, as were the skirting boards and it needed a good scrub. The bathroom was also dated with stains and clearly in need of an update. I expected ‘classic’ not ‘weathered’. The pool was another story! We managed to get a slightly early check in, but when we arrive at the pool for approx 2pm, the only free seated areas were shaded cabanas with tables. I wanted 4 sun loungers but as there was nowhere else to sit I took a shaded area to park our bags . I was then advised by a member of staff the cabanas were charged at 150 dollars. The cabanas were also filthy inside (stained sofas! & dirty table ) and I certainly did not want to pay, so I advised her that we had nowhere else to go and asked if she waa able to help with sourcing sun loungers. She advised me the sun loungers are reserved for guests and it’s first come first served. It was hardly heaving and I told her I was also a paying guest wanting to sit down and can she show discretion so we can sit in the shade until one becomes available ! There are clearly not enough Sun loungers available for the number of guests. Yet quite a lot of space taken up by cabanas nobody was using !! She pointed to a couple of ‘single Sun beds’ wedged between other groups as ‘available ‘, and I said I would prefer for our the family to stay together and can she please help me source some and / or move some together ( I had my younger son with me at the time). She looked at me as if I had three heads and ignored me and walked off . I was then helped by another family who moved some towels from beds they were not using, and I then I pulled on my own another sun lounger over as the staff member watched me do it. This is not what I expect from a luxury resort ! Lack of facilities for paying guests and snotty staff who clearly lack customer service. I must also add the jacuzzi was green, and in need of a good clean and refresh, surrounded by unkept facilities. In addition to this which we are following up, my husband is convinced his sunglasses have been stolen from the car outside the villa! And to top it off ( hence the negative review), we were not asked if we had a nice stay! Just ‘thanks ‘ for returning the keys ( one that didn’t work!). This is what happens unfortunately when you pay for a premium service and facilities, and don’t receive it . The hotel is dated and some staff members clearly need customer service training.

Beautiful Resort, Terrible Experience with the Front Desk Supervisor

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We chose South Coast Winery Resort & Spa to celebrate my husband's birthday, expecting a relaxing and memorable experience. Unfortunately, our stay began with one of the most unpleasant hotel check-in experiences we have ever had. We arrived at approximately 2:00 p.m. with two rooms reserved. We completed check-in, paid the required incidental deposit, and received our room keys. We were then informed that Room 15-04 was still being cleaned. The staff took back the key to that room while we kept access to Room 15-01. We were offered a different villa, but we declined because we preferred to keep the accommodation we had booked and simply wait until the room was ready. At around 3:40 p.m., after receiving a call from the hotel that the room was ready, we returned to collect the key. At that point, the Front Desk Supervisor, Michael, unexpectedly demanded an additional incidental deposit, even though we had already completed check-in and paid the required deposit. When I questioned this unexpected request, the conversation became extremely unpleasant. Rather than explaining the situation or attempting to resolve it professionally, Michael stated that if we did not immediately pay the additional deposit, our reservation would be canceled and we would not receive the room that had already been fully paid for. I found this behavior completely unacceptable. Guests should never feel pressured or threatened after completing check-in. Throughout the conversation, Michael was rude, dismissive, and repeatedly referred only to "hotel policy" without showing any willingness to assist or communicate respectfully. It is especially disappointing because this happened on my husband's birthday. Instead of beginning our celebration, we were forced into an unnecessary confrontation with the front desk. A luxury resort should provide hospitality, professionalism, and respect—not intimidation. The property itself is beautiful, and the grounds are well maintained. However, the quality of customer service at the front desk fell far below the standard expected from a resort of this level. I sincerely hope management investigates this incident and ensures that future guests are treated with the professionalism and respect they deserve.

Anniversary date

We visited this beautiful property to celebrate our anniversary and enjoy a concert The location was just perfect! Our villa was spacious and bright. We liked the option of bringing our dog as well. Dinner in the Vineyard Rose Restaurant was top notch. The food was delicious and the service (Mark) exceptional. We will definitely return for another stay in the near future.

Villas make it feel like it's your own rental property!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Beautiful property! Almost feels as if you own your villa and staying at your own vacation property. Staff was so helpful and friendly! Location to other top wineries (including Carter) is second to none. Wine Club pricing and requirements were the best of any wineries we visited. Can't wait to go back!

Warning: Don't Stay at this hotel!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Super disappointed hotel was considered a luxury hotel. In the wineries. The rooms were very outdated, not very well kept or updated. We got to our door and there were connected lines, food trays on both sides of the hallway, not cleaned up. The room layout was completely awkward. When you walk in the room, you see a dresser nightstand in the bed . Very small walk space between the fot of the bed and the door to the bathroom. And then when you walk in the living room area, it 's one small couch with a tiny round table, and a desk on the side with a chair that doesn't even fit the desk to sit at to work. Most of all, the t v was about 30" and completely across the room diagonally from the bed where you couldn't really even watch t v in bed realistically. The rooms are way overpriced for what you get. No bathroom amenities, a room service menu was printed out on paper and stapled. We had no hot water in the first room that we were staying in and had to get dressed packed and be moved to another room and didn't get to bed till about 2am. Only compensation we got was resort fees waived, which we didn't even use the resort because we checked out. I would not recommend staying here for the price we paid let alone just the overall appearance of the rooms.

What a great trip! This hotel is right in the middle of SoCal wine country - a perfect location. The villas are so nice, and perfect for a relaxing, low-key weekend getaway. The food was excellent and the spa was so nice, and very accommodating. And then there is the wine - surprisingly good! Altogether a great long weekend.
