Thatch Caye Resort

The best experience ever! The staff was amazing! Loved our bartenders Junior and Edwin, who could meet your needs and always give you choices on drinks 🍷. Excursions: We did an excursion to the barrier reef and it was awesome! The tour guide through the excursion was Raffe and was amazing! He pointed out many things I would have missed and never seen. I saw nurse sharks, octopus, and even a HUGE lobster! It was like being in a personal aquarium so so many fish! Raffe and Marlin were the best and ask for them!

Thatch Caye is the kind of place where you hug your bartender, your servers, and your guides before you head home - and immediately start planning your next visit. Thatch Caye truly has a family feel to it - you can tell the staff loves what they do and respects the island, the guests and each other. They are fun to talk to and super engaging. Meals are communal, so you really get to know the staff and other guests. Nightly happy hour is an experience you can’t miss! The water is calm and warm, and there was a bar right by the beach with alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks. We stayed in the furthest overwater bungalow and would bike to and from the room. We saw hermit crabs, birds, and fish right from our deck, and spent the evenings lounging on our hammock in the moonlight. We didn’t wear shoes for 4 days. It was a true island retreat! And the dogs! Pico and Marley really make the experience. Pico shared my bacon every morning and Marley took naps in our room. It was such a fun experience to have them around. We spent a half day snorkeling with Raffi, who was so knowledgeable and skilled. The reef near the island is the second largest living reef in the world - we saw two small sharks, sting rays, lobster, and so many beautiful tropical fish. The biggest plus for us: they provided prescription goggles! We’ve always had to avoid snorkeling because don’t wear contacts, but Raffi had 10 different prescription goggles to choose from, all with varying prescriptions. Both my husband and I were able to find ones that worked. It was great! Tips: if you plan to snorkel, bring a rash guard or some other UV protective shirt - plus shorts if you wear bikini bottoms. Take it from me - nothing puts a damper on a good time like a burnt back and crispy butt cheeks! We also went on an island hop “booze cruise,” which was a lot of fun. I really wanted to see manatees, and we did! All thanks to the best captain, Marlon, the best guide, Darvin, and the best mobile bartender, Erwin. We had such a fun time with them, they really made the experience memorable. All inclusive makes everything easy - and the food and drinks are delicious! Special shout out to Dennis, Junior and Erwin behind the bar, and servers Jessica and Logan. They made the experience so special - and it was fun getting to know them! I was a little concerned about traveling during the rainy season but was pleasantly surprised - it didn’t rain at all during our 4-night stay. My weather app showed rain each day from the closest mainland town, Dangriga, but the rain never made it to us on the island. Note: We did hear from staff that it has been an unusually dry season, so it might not be quite so dry at another time. We bundled our stay at Thatch Caye with 3 nights at Sweet Songs Jungle Lodge in San Ignacio. This is a package offered by Muy-Ono, and I couldn’t recommend it enough. It was nice to experience two very different Belizean environments: the jungle and the beach, and I feel like we left with a fuller understanding of the country having experienced both. Working with Thatch Caye and Sweet Songs on logistics was so easy - all transportation was provided to and from the resorts and the airport (shout out to our boat captain Hydo!), we didn’t have to worry about a thing.

My wife and I spent four days at Thatch Caye in August and had a wonderful time. The staff is very friendly and helpful and made the stay delightful. While we were there, we stayed in an over-the-water bungalow that was a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. No TV in the room, the sound of the ocean against the shore, a very comfortable bed, made it incredibly romantic and relaxing. There are lots of activities and excursions available. While we were there, we had a couples massage out on the end of the island. It was very relaxing and enjoyable. We also took an excursion around the nearby islands and saw manatees and birds and other interesting sights. Everyone eats their meals together, and the food was always quite good. All in all, I would definitely recommend this resort.

Staff very accommodating and very welcoming as well as the dogs. Beach is very nice and lots of activities and things to do!
