Thatch Caye Resort

The rustic vibe came as a surprise to me am my family. We were expecting more of a “luxury” resort and were a bit disappointed when we arrived at how simple and run down much of the accommodations were. One example: The cushions on the sun loungers on our balcony had multiple tears/holes in them. They didn’t look rustic, they just looked junky and long overdue to be replaced.. More disappointing was the limited availability and variety of food options. Dinner wasn’t served until 7 pm and nothing but almonds , chocolate chips and cookies were available between lunch and dinner. I was quite hungry for something healthy and filling each day around 5 and was frustrated not to have access to anything like fruit or yogurt or a salad. Most difficult to take was the smell from the decomposing sargassum seaweed that surrounded the island. It was nauseating and inescapable. While I know this is mostly out of the resort’scontrol, it was like the elephant in the room. Not a single employee mentioned or apologized for it which left us feeling kind of bewildered. Overall, not the worst place we’ve stayed but not likely to return.

Our time at Thatch Caye Island Resort 🏝️✨ From the moment we arrived, Shakera welcomed us with a drink in hand and a warm smile—setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable trip. Luis made sure we were settled and always had answers to every question, while Logan went above and beyond every single day with genuine kindness that made us feel so special. Junior kept the beach and center bar fun with any drink we could dream up, and Erwin impressed us daily with his craft cocktails (and his legendary shot-ski skills - not to mention his photography skills of those shot-ski moments🍹). Jessica was always there with a smile at mealtime, and Jackson helped me pick out the perfect souvenir before giving us the send-off on our last day. The whole team even brought a cake out for my husband’s 50th birthday and all the guests also sang to him. Behind the scenes, the hardworking staff kept the island spotless and beautiful—every detail truly mattered. And a huge thank you to Darvin and Charlie, our incredible snorkel guides, whose knowledge and passion made the excursion unforgettable at the reef. We also had an amazing fly fishing experience with Kayvon from Blue Horizon—an incredible guide who shared so much insight about the islands and local waters. And we can’t forget Marley and Pico, the island pups who made it feel like home (we may or may not have kept their amazing life a secret from our own dogs). You could be lucky enough to have Marley follow you to your room one night. Thatch Caye has the perfect blend of rustic, back-to-nature charm with the comforts of a beautiful small resort. The food was delicious and fresh, the drinks were always flowing, and the staff felt more like old friends than anything else. Insider tip: listen for the 7:00 dinner song… your cue that something “yummy” is about to happen! 🎶 Until next time, island life.

This place is absolutely amazing. It's incredibly comfortable and personal. It's not over the top luxurious and that's what made it so great! It feels like you're on a gorgeous island that you share with your friends. By the first day, the staff knew our names and our kids' names. The bartenders, chefs, and servers just impressed us at every opportunity. The cleaning crew is excellent and are like sneaky ninjas you never see. All of the excursions were well worth it!

My husband had the most amazing week at thatch caye!!! Everything was so great. The island is beautiful, delicious food and drinks, friendly staff. Special shout outs to Shakira who made us feel welcomed from day 1, Charles who made the most amazing drinks, Emerson who always helped us start off our day right with a great breakfast, and Darvin and Marisha who are the snorkel and scuba experts!! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to travel to Belize. Hope to be back some day!

What an experience! We had an amazing group of 26 friends on this trip that required a lot from the staff, which was more than they were used to. They adjusted to us and gave us a vacation none of us will ever forget. We have all been to places, but the trip to Thatch Caye we will always remember. The staff like Junior, Irwin, and Charles took extra time to make our stay fun and exciting. Jessica and Logan with the food service they provided. Jessica even going above and beyond by making a cake for a friend with a birthday. Luis and Jackson always up for a friendly conversation. I didn't get to know a lot the other staff that all make this resort work, but they all did amazing. Last but not least the Island dogs of Marly and Peco who greeted us when we arrived and also were there to say goodbye. Thank you Thatch Caye!!
