Reviews for Hotel New Otani Tokyo, "The Main"
New Otani (The Main) was the fifth and final hotel on our four week holiday in Japan. It was absolutely perfect, can fault nothing. The room we received (which I believe was a free upgrade) was very large - especially by Japan standards - comfortable, super clean, a nice view on the 13th floor and had all the ameneties you could want (divan/couch to relax), desk and mirror, huge closet for our three large travel bags and an absolutely stunning bathroom. Bathrooms really make or break a hotel room I think, and this one was very spacious, had lots of spots for storage, a modern shower and bath, good toiletries and looked stunning too. The large king size bed was incredibly comfortable (softer than most we experienced in Japan). Great nights sleep here. The look of the hotel is truly stunning, you can walk from one hotel to the Garden View hotel which is connected and we did this daily. We enjoyed walking through the hotel to look at the stunning decor as well as visiting the gardens. The service staff are very helpful and attentive. There are lots of shops and restaurants inside the hotel which we didn't make too much use of, we did have dinner in The Sky the first night which is highly recommended for the 360 degree views and the delicious food. Aside from that right across the road you have The Terrace with lots of yummy food choices, Akasaka in a 10 min walk with three small streets full of options and Akasaka-Mitsuke station just around the corner (use the underground pass) which takes you pretty much everywhere in Tokyo. Aside from being in a great spot and hold a special history, New Otani was also a great experience in itself as part of time in Tokyo.
We stayed for 7 nights and booked a superior twin room. It was a spacious room which overlooked the rose garden. The beds were quite firm which was a bit unusual. This was the only thing which could be improved. The hotel comprises of 3 buildings; the main (where we stayed), the Garden Tower and Garden Court. We were very happy with the main as it was closest to the main entrance and the Japanese garden. We were attracted by the garden so it was fantastic to see that the garden was beyond our expectations. It was a truly beautiful start to our trip with a walk around the garden after breakfast. One of the best things about the New Otani was that there were 3 different restaurants to choose from for breakfast. Although, we didn't go for the buffet breakfasts, we were more than happy with the a la carte choices. There was also a supermarket and a convenience store in the complex so you can get food and fresh fruit at any time. The staff were excellent and it was a nice change to be greeted by the staff at every turn. I should give a special mention to the concierge staff who were great in providing maps and tried to be as helpful as possible. It was sad to leave the hotel and we would definitely stay there again.
Stayed 3 nights at the New Otani, wonderful hotel- needs a refurb, but other then that cannot fault it. A lot of reviews are saying its not a central location, but I do have to disagree with that. There is a train station 2 minute walk from the hotel and all the areas you want to see are only 2-3 stops away. It doesnt matter were you stay in Tokyo, you will miss out on one area or the other...so staying at the new Otani was the best choice, as it was literally in the middle of it all. Breakfast is wonderful and had the most amazing view of Mt Fuji. One tip- sign up to the loyalty program- you will get a free late check out at 3 pm if available.

check in went smoothly with no problem, rooms were spacious with a tradition feel which was nice. the big let down for this hotel was that the swimming pool which is on site is not available to guests to use unless they pay £30per guest per day, which is an extortionate amount to charge. the hotel was very expensive to eat in, 2x coffee and 2x cake came to just under £30, that said it is a large complex The japanese gardens are beutiful to walk around and is a very tranquil place. There is not much to do around the hotel area, but there are 2 train stations with a 15 min walk into central Tokyo
