I spent a considerable amount of time reading reviews before selecting the New Otani (Main Tower) and chose it based on other traveler reviews with an emphasis on the room size and amenities. While the bathroom was very nice and the room size overall was indeed large, the layout was awkward. The bathroom had a step-up which was a bit dangerous at night with the lights out. The closet for luggage storage was difficult to access due to its location right outside the bathroom, and there were not any drawers in the room for clothing storage - necessitating living out of a suitcase. These negatives could have been dealt with for a 3-night stay, but the air conditioning not cooling adequately left me with a bad experience. While management was notified and possibly looked into the matter (they left a typed response), the air conditioning never cooled and each of the 3 nights in the room was unpleasant. As for the restaurants and other features, it was quite disappointing that the pool opening date was July 15th -- very late in the summer, and with the daily temperature at 90 degrees farenheit or hotter, it would have been nice to have used it. The gardens on the property were lovely, but would not be a factor in choosing this hotel over another. The breakfast buffet on the 40th floor was very good, along with the views. Finally, I thought because of the size of the hotel (huge) and extensive number of restaurants (over 30 I think), it would be hard to go wrong, but the hotel size was overwhelming to an exhausted traveler. Also, we joined the New Otani Club thinking we would receive free complimentary newspaper and coffee/tea in the dedicated lounge for members, but were disappointed that it didn't open in the mornings until 10am, a time far too late for travelers or business people. Overall, I rated both the hotel and my experience as "average" at best.

Booked a stay over the holiday weekend while on business... one of the few hotels in Tokyo with outside pool. Rooms great, staff very attentive and service good... but this all comes with a hefty price.. pool is 2000 yen for hotel guest for the day, poolside bar drinks start at 800 yen for cup of coke, 1500-2000 yen for alcohol drinks and breakfast absurd at over 3000 yen... Pool rules include no tattoos and modest swimwear..easy to get a sun bed though. Pool ok but more family biased vs true swimming environment Good overall experience vs great

We stayed for 5 nights. A luxury hotel in a very central location. Near the rail, underground and bus network, so very convenient to get around. Near a JR line, so good if you have a Japan Rail Pass. Just a few stops from Tokyo Station. The neighbouring area of Akasuka has plenty of places to eat in the evenings, so it's definitely worth going out for dinner in the evenings. The in-house restaurants (there is a great variety of them) are a little on the pricey side, so it's worth going out for meals. The room was spacious by Japan standards, but not as much as I was expecting for that price per night. The hotels in Kyoto were better value in that regard. The outdoor pool is only open for a month or two per year, which was a pity. It was the height of summer when we went (early July), but the pool was only opening mid-July, which seemed a bit mad considering the frantically hot weather while we were there. They also charge to use the pool, even for in-house guests, which I thought was a bit mean. As in the other reviews, the hotel staff were always very polite and happy to help - excellent service. If you are going for a relax and let-your-hair-down holiday, you may find the hotel a little stiff. There were times when we felt a bit under-dressed just walking around the corridors of the hotel. It's pretty posh.

Known as one of the top-three prestigious hotels in Japan, the service at Hotel New Otani is at a different level. The staff are always looking out for ways to help the guests stay as perfect as possible. The hotel complex has everything from bakeries to barbers to convenience stores and the shopping quarter is filled with options. The rooms are quite spacious in Tokyo standards and very well-kept despite the hotel being quite old. The garden is perfect for taking an afternoon stroll (or taking wedding photos - I saw lots during my week long stay!). The breakfast is delicious but could get crazy during peak time - I waited for 30 minutes on a Saturday morning when arrived around 9am. I thought it was a nice touch they had fresh green juice to start off the morning healthily.

Spacious room, great service & good choice of restaurants. The outdoor garden is simply awesome. And best of all, airport limousine bus is right at the doorstep. Subway is just 100 metres away, convenience stores and shops are walking distance from the hotel.
