Reviews for Mandarin Oriental Tokyo

Stunning, customer driven, truly five star

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

The Mandarin Oriental is one of the best hotels we have stayed at, comparable to the Conrad in Osaka. Stunning staff, great selection of restaurants, a brilliant concierge group, totally clean and comfortable large room with stunning view of downtown. The shower was spectacular and the bed very comfortable. We had dinner in the French Restaurant, the Signature....wow, what a terrific six-course meal. A bit expensive but one of the best meals ever with great staff. We did ask the concierge for a special lunch reservation for eight with very little notice and they came through with flying colors. While we did live and work in Asia for four decades and have traveled extensively around the world the MOTYO is one of those places that you always look forward to returning to, should the chance arise. Despite this hotel being a bit expensive, it is worth every penny: staff, food, design, location, restaurants, view, room size, and design. Recommended with no reservations at all. Try it just once; I promise it will be exquisite.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL JAPAN

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My daughter last day there twice in one trip. We left the hotel for almost a week, travelling around Japan and returning at the end of our trip to the Mandarin again. What really impressed me was that I had asked for toiletries to be supplied for around the bath tub as they were not any provided, only in the shower. And I left my coat in the cupboard by mistake on the first round. When I returned, my coach was hanging in the cupboard waiting for me, and rows of toiletries were laid out around the bath, my original request noted and taken care of. This is the kind of detail that impresses me. Mandarin oriental is a very high-end luxury hotel and then meet all the requirements and more. Staff can’t do enough for you and Interiors are beautiful too.

Dreamtime in the clouds

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This was our second visit to the MO Japan. The induction day involved a Sakura-themed afternoon tea and the totally Tokyo Spa treatment in the evening and was the perfect introduction. In all other respects reception, concierge and room service maintained the highest possible standards but the gifts offered during our visit, particularly the Sakura Tea, Cake and Rose Wine were very much appreciated and were more than mere tokens, they were all of the highest standard. I was also once again impressed with the pre arrival support. In particular after many weeks a window opened up in a F & B option, which had been fully booked, and we were offered availability. For my third visit to Tokyo, I had planned a more spa-type experience but given 'the dreamtime in the clouds' experience of the induction I will return to MO Japan in 2025.

Egg-cellent Easter break at the Grand Dame of Nihombashi!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I wanted to thank the MOTYO team for another amazing stay at the MOTYO. I usually stay for business. This time, I brought my family along for an Easter break, and it was an aptly rejuvenating experience. From the moment we arrived till the morning we departed, we were treated like treasured members of the extended family by everyone we met. It is a cliche to use the term "home away from home", and perhaps in this case that is not entirely appropriate as my home is certainly not as luxurious, but that was certainly how we felt while we were in residence. We had the perfect start to our day every morning with your scrumptious breakfast, whether enjoyed in K’shiki or in the comforts of our spacious accommodation. Every item was lovingly and perfectly executed - my favourites are the excellent croissants (yes, they are better than the ones in France!) and the MO Eggs Benedict with their indulgent addition of crab meat to an already extravagant morning meal. The quality of the cuisine is matched by the peerless service standards, even when faced with a full house! Every morning I would observe the “generals” of the dining room, including Executive Chef Daniele and the F&B executive team, with their hands-on leadership, inspecting the food and personally attending to the needs of your fussy guests. No wonder the place runs like clockwork - and a very fine Swiss clock at that! We also had the opportunity to dine at the Oriental Lounge which was surprisingly family friendly! My kids had the opportunity to admire the beautiful Tokyo skyline while enjoying their freshly cooked dinner, and thank you to the team led by Ayu-san for being so accommodating to our special requests (we should not be surprised - the off-the-charts level of hospitality is consistently found throughout the property). We were also fascinated by the excitement at the Tapas Molecular Bar located in a section of the lounge - the diners all looked like they were having a grand time and we can't wait to try it for ourselves one day! You must be very proud of your entire team for always being at the top of their game. The bell team never failed to offer a hand with our bags - be it our luggage or our bounty from a day of shopping - and always with smiles on their faces. Housekeeping kept our room in pristine conditions throughout our stay - and never leaving our small details like a bookmark for our books and binding straps for our loose wires. The front desk and concierge teams were superb in taking care of our numerous requests - I don't think they have "no" in their vocabulary even if sometimes we confront them with challenging requests (like a last minute sushi lunch reservation an hour before closing time!). What a blessing it must be to be working with the Avengers of the hospitality world! We were really impressed by the Hello MO chat function, and how it seamlessly connects us to every team in the hotel - even prior to our arrival! We were able to contact the Concierge team for restaurant reservations, Housekeeping team for specific service requests, and the In-room Dining team for our detailed breakfast orders. There were no long wait times holding on the phone or miscommunication due to unclear verbal conversations. It's a real game changer in my view and takes the frustration out of figuring out who to call for what, and then being put on hold due to busy lines. I have used this app in several MO properties and found it to be a great personal electronic assistant. It was really wonderful to be surrounded by so many wonderful and passionate associates, and also by the blooming cherry blossoms around the property. The MOTYO team has taken luxury hospitality to new heights, and we are eagerly looking forward to our return!

4 star service in Tokyo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Service and staff are as expected in Tokyo first class. The word " no" does not exist , they try to cater to your every wish and succeed. Rooms are not particularly generous, the bathrooms have everything that you need but size is small. Tiny single sink but good shower and tub. Bathroom accessories are just average, no bubble bath or bath salts . We had an upgrade to a corner room where the view was exceptional but the room itself was small. Prices in Tokyo are really high and i expected something a little more luxurious. We ate at the Italian restaurant for dinner, the menu was just adequate with very helpful service but just average food. Breakfasts are as expected in Asia .... buffet with just about everything you would expect to be available but once again service was excellent but just falls short of a 5 star level. I would probably try another hotel on our next trip here just to see how the other hotels match up to this one.
