Reviews for The Peninsula Tokyo

Only thing going for them is their location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

After staying at The Peninsula in Istanbul I had high expectations of this hotel but after my visit I can conclude that this hotel is either: 1. A fake Peninsula. or 2. A Very poorly managed Peninsula. At check-in, I informed the receptionist that I was attempting to book the hotel through Amex to secure a 4:00 PM late check-out. However, due to my phone's roaming issues, I was unable to complete the two-factor authentication required for logging in and finalizing the purchase. I requested a late check-out until 2 PM, but he informed me that the hotel was fully booked and nothing could be done. I understood that it wasn't their responsibility to accommodate my Amex login issues. However, moments later, I noticed another guest at the check-in desk right next to me requesting the same late check-out. The staff member handling their check-in offered them a different room to use from 12 PM to 4 PM, despite not being able to extend their stay in the same room. This occurred just seconds after my request was denied. Although I chose not to create a disturbance or affect another guest's experience, I found the inconsistency in how the requests were handled to be absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional. Apart from that service at this hotel was not great, mediocre at best. The food was not good, certainly not 5 star hotel quality. Rooms are good sized, however they are old and very much showing their age. For the amount of money you are going to pay at this hotel there are MUCH better options in Tokyo, don't waste your time or ¥¥¥¥ here.

Needs major renovation

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Tokyo Peninsula needs a major upgrade of its rooms. Built in 2007 it is way overdue and although the rooms are clean and spacious , to keep up with Mandarin Oriental which i feel is the best Tokyo hotel, the renovation is badly needed. The hotel lobby is like a railway station . This is where you have breakfast and because it is right as you walk in to the hotel it is very noisy and full of transients . Food though is good as is the service. Good position for shopping but all in all a 3 Star hotel in Tokyo.

Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

4th visit in the last 10 years or so; although well maintained the hotel’s decor is getting a bit dated. The service was subpar. Concierge slow to respond to emails, not knowledgeable about Sakura during Sakura week, breakfasts average and the order is fulfilled in a different way almost every time; the rate extremely high; much better rates advertised during our stay and some of our friends paid a lot less. All in all, a hotel that Peninsula purports to be and charges rates accordingly should provide a much better experience

Perfect Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I did a lot of research to find this hotel. It was in the perfect location for us (Ginza) and close to the train station. The rooms were beautiful and the service was impeccable. I've never had housekeeping take the time to organize all the toiletry and makeup bottles and display them so nicely. They also have a complimentary vehicle to take you to dinner when you book a suite. Very nice perk. This was our first trip to Japan and our experience at the Peninsula definitely set the bar high!

Fantastic stay at the Peninsula Tokyo!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Beautiful hotel in fantastic location. The service was excellent, especially the Front-end Manager, Joseph. He was very welcoming and always there to help with anything during our stay. The spa was excellent, the massages superb! The restaurant (The Peter) on the 24th floor overlooking Tokyo is not to be missed…especially their cocktails and Wagyu beef!
