Peter Island Resort & Spa in Tortola, British Virgin Islands

From the moment you arrive at the marina, a 20-minute boat ride from neighboring Tortola Island, it’s clear Peter Island Resort & Spa is no typical beach holiday. Guests have access to the entire 1,800-acre island, of which only 300 acres are developed. Hike through untouched forests or take to the sea with a chartered boat. Beachfront suites and spectacular hillside villas provide access to secluded stretches of sand that were once home to the Caribbean's most colorful characters, from Christopher Columbus to the pirate Blackbeard.

Take an early morning walk to White Bay Beach and lounge in a private tiki hut, no other creature in sight except for a passing gull. Eat a picnic in the shade. Unfurl the sails of a catamaran and explore the caves at Norman Island or the baths at Virgin Gorda. Watch the sun descend into the sea at Sunset Loop with a passion fruit mojito and a plate of fruit and cheese.

Had a one week vacation with my wife. This place was a little tough to get to from Canada. Flight with one stopover, then a 60 minute boat ride. But it was well worth it. the resort is private and the only one on the island. it is very spacious with walking paths, multiple beaches - including a beach you can reserve for private use. Rooms are very nice - staff are extremely helpful and the food is excellent. Lots of stuff to do in the area.

I boated to Peter Island 4 years ago and spent the day. Ever since, I dreamed of spending a week here with my girlfriends. After coming back every summer for a few hours, we finally booked a beachfront suite and made our way to this "5 star resort". Stepping off of the ferry and onto the dock felt like we had been transported into a fantasy world. Smiling staff members greeted us on the dock with fresh hand towels and delicious beverages. The service was downhill afterwards. As of right now, we are on day 4 of a 7 day vacation and I feel compelled to go ahead a write a review. I can't imagine that I will ever return as a guest here. Although there are many good features here at PI (I will mention those, too, to be fair), the quality of service and attention to detail expected for the price, leaves a lot to be desired. Here we go: 1. One person in our party doesn't eat sugar and the resort was notified well In advance of our arrival at least two times. When we arrived, we were told the chef would meet with us that night to discuss. Our first night at dinner, there was no dessert for her and No chef to discuss. We were told there was a private event at the other restaurant and he was too busy. The chef on duty came out and apologized. 2. The service that night was very slow and the staff was inattentive. We ate our whole meal With no refills on beverages and without anyone checking on us. Also, the steak was ordered medium and was well done. 3. The hairdryer in my room caught on fire and smoked up the room. 4. While at the spa, we set our robes and personal items on the table on the patio when it started raining at the pool. We went to the restroom and came out and the robes were gone. The locker keys were in the pocket of the robes. Also a shirt was missing. We asked the attendant and she said she had to clean up because they were always doing tours and people would write negative reviews. She said she didn't see a shirt, yet when she found the robes, the shirt was inside of it. Also, we took the only four chairs at the pool that didn't have dirty towels and robes on them. No other guests were there. 5. We were told our fridge would be restocked every day. Since we are non-drinkers, they said they would keep 8 Diet Coke in there for the four of us. They put them in the first night and never restocked. On the fourth day (the same day I'm writing this review) we ran out and I called for more. It took three phone calls and me getting pretty upset that we finally got four diet cokes 5 hours later. 6. The two sinks in our bathroom have no cold water. Weird, huh? Try brushing your teeth with hot water. 7. The bed broke the third night and Maintenance had to come and repair. Tonight, the screw is still on the floor and no one has come to "permanently" repair. 8. Beach hut ran out of towels. 9. Fourth night at dinner - they were out of two entrees and the only dessert we were interested in was also out. We waited over an hour and half to get our dinner and again one of the steaks was way over cooked. I finally had to go and complain to the supervisor. The food was fair. The bill for four people $350.00. We actually felt like prisoners as we waited. There was nowhere else on the island to get anything to eat! That was our only choice. 10. Getting any extra supplies for the room is almost impossible. Like I said, there are some things we enjoy (beautiful beaches, breakfast, spa services, and some staff), but those should go without mentioning at this price. If I checked into this hotel and received this service anywhere in the states, I would get in my car and leave immediately. Kudos to Jennefer in customer relations for trying to please her guests. But she can only do so much. She should get a huge promotion!!

We chose Peter Island Resort for our honeymoon destination for its pristine tropical beach, crystal clear water, and the promise of utter relaxation. The resort did not disappoint. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional. The beach was sheer perfection. The endless options for activities and excursions was unparalleled. The food was outstanding, simply put. If I could go back and do it all again, I would! The view from our Junior Beachfront Suite was breathtaking and we made sure to spend time each morning and evening watching the sun rise and fall from our private upper story deck. The one drawback to this resort is it tired furniture in the guest rooms and its lounges on the beach. While our room was clean, the furniture was worn and well used. The lounges on the beach are in need of new cushions, as should the beach towels be replaced. As for the furniture in the spa, restaurants, and concierge center, I have no complaints! All in all, Peter Island is worth the trip!

This place is amazing! My husband and spent 7 days at Peter Island to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary - we stayed in the beachfront villa - which was perfect. This island had just the low key, relaxing atmosphere we were looking for. We absolutely loved the ability to venture out on our own and explore the wonderful views and other beaches. While the resort provides rides to the other beaches and the sunset loop, we preferred to hike to these locations and loved it! What amazing views and opportunities to take in the true beauty of this paradise! The food and drinks were wonderful! We purchased the full American meal plan and the drink plan and were very satisfied - well worth it! I was a bit confused on how the plans worked, as there is mandatory 18% gratuity on all meal and drink purchases, so I expected to have a gratuity bill to pay at the end of my stay - however, it turns out that was included in the package price. The service at this resort exceeds all expectations - everyone was wonderful and So happy - which tells me the employees are treated right and enjoy working here. I do need to give a shout out to Aaron who was the Manager on the Saturday night of our arrival - we were tired and extremely hungry after traveling all day and happened to hit the break in between the lunch and dinner serving hours. He went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of and we truly appreciated his kindness. We Love this place! I don't know how any other resort could possibly come close to what this island has to offer.

Not sure what else to say other than perfection. My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights as part one of our honeymoon. It had been raining the day we arrived and as soon as we got off of the boat, we were greeted with big umbrellas and a tropical drink. We were immediately taken to our room where our bags were delivered. From the flawless beaches, the 5-star dining to the exceptional service from everyone, including the bartenders and servers, this was the perfect start to our honeymoon. Whatever you need, reception is there to handle for you. They set up our day boat trips, our dining reservations, and our transportation to other islands perfectly. It felt like we were the only 2 on the island everyday. We were really sad to leave and already have plans to return someday soon.
