Reviews for Savoia Excelsior Palace
This is a very grand waterfront hotel that retains Old World elegance with a beautiful and tasteful renovation. We had reserved a nicer double room but were upgraded to a suite that was about 400 square feet. The suite was lovely, practically designed (except for a lack of drawer space), and comfortable for a long stay. There were many nice touches that one would expect from a five-star hotel. Service was uniformly professional, very warm and efficient, and the dining room for breakfast was very nice with a bountiful assortment of offerings. The room was very quiet and we slept well without any disturbance. The price was very reasonable for what we received and we could not have been happier with it.

Trieste is a really special place. A port town with an edge and a rich textured history, replete with plot twists and interlopers. The city itself is wealthy and vibrant with a broad mix of cultures, ideas, art and architecture. Staying at the Excelsior puts you right on the Adriatic, overlooking the scene of so much activity. A city known for events and festivals, we visited during the barcolana festival so the promenade was populated with stalls selling everything from prosecco to natural gas! The Excelsior is a great hotel. We had a suite but they (astoundingly) upgraded us to the Presidential suite which, among other things features two balustraded balconies that must cover 30 to 35 feet and give you a panoramic view of the port. The room(s) were spacious - a huge bedroom with a kind size bed, a pillow menu for optimal sleep and highly effective and functional air conditioning. The bathroom features a large bathtub and tons of space. A walk in closet adjoins the bathroom to bring you to the hall and the main living room - a massive two couch affair with two separate doors to the large balcony. Each of the balconies had electric shutters so you can go completely vampire at night if you wish and block out the sound of the main street. The staff were friendly and helpful -- really attentive, knowledgeable and willing to go the extra mile. One of the hotel highlights or our Italy trip.

Classic hotel in the best location. Perhaps a bit of 'faded glory' (I suspect this was once a 5 star hotel) but nevertheless, it is quite a nice 4 star hotel today. They gave us a room on the side with a balcony that allowed us to see the harbor. And they gave us suggestions on where to find street parking. I would stay here again without a 2nd thought.

I stayed at this hotel in 2005 and was delighted with my room with full view of the promenade and the water. I emailed to ask for a similar room but we were given a side room no 126 with only part view. The room was spotless and the beds very comfortable. There was a very hard seat directly under the TV and if you were not careful you could give your head a nasty bang. It was not comfortable to sit and relax. The bathroom was spotless but why only one water glass that was too tall to be much use as a tooth mug. Breakfast good but the dining room was a bit bland. Excellent staff at concierge and reception.

Stay last week.... Many things to praise ... very helpful reception employees, with patience and efficiency! Very nice and clean, to details, rooms. They are Especially careful if you have special needs like we had. (We noted that because of allergies to humidity, dust , smells, smokes etc , we wanted a renovated and a very well preserved room, even with no carpet. They secure them all and further beyond!). Breakfast area very pleasant, breakfast variety "narrow", they should have more cheese choices and some salmon or soup if possible. Breakfast's waiters need to be a bit more smiling.... and to have some music background to start pleasantly the morning (possibly classical, Vivaldi ..) The prices in bar are very reasonable. Probably the lowest that we had in Italy. The location of the resort is exceptional. Walking distance from everything interesting and had to be visited. For sure we'll try to return soon.
