Wonderful hotel, great service and as close as you can get to The Cruise Terminal.

Outstanding hotel. Magnificent location and wonderful staff. Many restaurants and bars nearby, but the price and quality of the hotel bar was exceptional and half the cost of Venice. The room was superb. If you are arriving or departing from The Cruise Terminal, and want a fairly-priced luxury stay before or after your cruise, you cannot find better.

Grand Old Hotel in Trieste

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

We stayed for 3 nights in a junior suite with a harbor view. The housekeeping and bed linens were excellent. The sound insulation was good. The high point was the Concierge Giulio who was not only extremely helpful but incredibly welcoming. He was able to make a difficult lunch reservation for us on Easter Day. The breakfast was solid--not the absolute best, but pretty good and the view is pleasant. The hotel is located in the heart of Trieste, a beautiful and historic city that is well worth visiting.

Beautiful old hotel on the waterfront

Beautiful grand old hotel overlooking the bay. Reception and concierge very helpful, organising a driver for day trip, booking the private use wellness steam room (very relaxing) and a breakfast box for us to take away for our early early start on the last morning. Rooms very clean, with excellent shower, bathrobes/slippers and tea/coffee facilities. Breakfast good, lovely room and different selections every day (pastries/honeycomb) Toasties from the lounge (lovely quiet library room) are perfect and decent craft beer. If you can book a deluxe balcony room with table/chairs for watching the world go by with relaxing breakfast. Room was very well soundproofed.

Simply, out of this world.

Having stayed in, and having been dissapointed by, a lot of 4-5star hotels in Italy, as they never seem to 'pull off' the customer experience, with lazy attitude to service and no attention to the customer, the Savoia Excelsior Palace 'pulls it off' with aplomb. A great welcome, no hassle check in and concierge parking, a wonderfully airy and well designed suite with perfect linen & towels. The evening menu was 5 star and discrete service, with each course paired with great wine & not at all expensive. You could not get more helpful staff from reception to housekeeping. Nothing is too much trouble. OK, there is no spa, you won't get an in-house massage or pedicure but these can be arranged with notice, but seriously the staff, the food and the in room coffee all make up for it. The design is sooooo comfortable and lush. Like everywhere, there is room for slight improvement. Breakfast is a rammy. The way the different shaped & sized tables are layen out means everyone is crossing in front of and behind each other. I was totally stressed by it. They need long tables along one wall to create a more linear flow. I only went once because of the school canteen effect. The second small point is that the bar is Wow!! Stunning, but at 8 pm on a Saturday, when the town was jumping, it was just me in there. They need the lighting dimmed and some live background jazz to bring life to the place, but these were small things. Overall, I would come back in a heartbeat. Now, I am writing this before I check out. Hopefully, they haven't scratched my car, lol.

Very nice hotel good service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Great hotel, pricey but good. Breakfast is so so, but to Italian standards it is perfect. Service is one of the best I have seen. Rooms are spacious and well maintained. It is an old building but they have done their best to make it look authentic. Rooms are well furnitured and have good amenities. The only remark I would have is that the staff at the breakfast could be a little more friendly to foreigners. Although they were friendly to local italians the foreigners were less important to them. So it seems. We had to ask for coffee and we just could have a little more attention. Anyway. The staff at the entrance and check-in were so friendly to us that made it all go away. Nice view from the breakfast room too. That was nice.
