Amazing Location & Property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary at Pine Cay, and the experience not only met our high expectations but exceeded them. Everything about the stay was amazing. First, the location is truly paradise and we spent most of the week on the beach and in the water, feeling like we had the entire beach to ourselves. Second, the food put together by Pablo and his team was outstanding in both quality and variety. Lastly we can't say enough about the staff and the incredible service they provided.

We loved Pine Cay! It’s beautiful, secluded, and private. We came here on our honeymoon which was perfect considering we wanted something luxurious and low key. We booked one of the larger suites which was great for us. We wanted room with an outdoor shower (used multiple times a day). We did all the activities - snorkeling & sailing were our favorite. Ask for Ronaldo, Josh, Tevin, or Kellson. The food here is organic and local. The service is exceptional. Tony is the most professional, kind server we’ve ever had at a resort! Like Michelin star service! Kirk is also fantastic. Damian is welcoming! We had ~ 5 course meals 3x per day! If you are looking for a private getaway, this is a fabulous option!

Outstanding property, good resort (4.5 stars)

Pine Cay sits on an exquisite property with a perfect white sand beach stretching for in both directions. The mostly exclusive use of this beach is reason enough to rate 5 stars. We stayed in a room rather than one of the two cottages and this was private enough. We never saw the neighbours and only heard them once or twice. No major issue with mosquitoes despite recent rain (there are some, but controlled) The room is outstanding. Big kudos to the designer who thought of every perfectly placed element in the room. The only improvement would be better soundproofing for the toilet area. Loved the outdoor shower and screened porch. Cleaning staff were world class. The restaurant staff were lovely and always got it right. Everything was perfectly prepared and the desserts were next level. Strict vegetarians are catered for, but I found the options ho hum (pasta twice, pizza, risotto etc). Unfortunately, the activities were a disaster. Double bookings, no yoga, flooded tennis, cancelled snorkelling. For some, this would be a real issue. I was disappointed in the reef snorkel as the coral is all broken and I did not like the tour guide - he even stood on the coral! Thumbs down. There was some shore snorkelling that was cool and still healthy. I recommend Pine Cay despite the shortcomings of the activities. Whether or not it is worth the cost depends on how much you value privacy and a perfect beach. Top 3 Pros Near exclusive use of a perfect beach Outstanding desserts Thoughtful room design Top 3 Cons Activities not offered as promised Boring vegetarian food Pool design (you won’t use it)

Good....but not world class

For what you are paying ($1800 a night) this resort should be world class. It isn't. The good first: The beach is incredible The food is amazing (probably best we've had at a resort). The rooms are well done and modern (although my outdoor shower didn't have hot water) The people are extremely kind (although a bit casual "hey bro") The bad: We waited an hour an a half for a water taxi over to the resort. The trip was 15 minutes. If I'm paying $1800 a night you should be there waiting for me. Another couple that got in after us was 25 minutes late due to a weather delay. The resort water taxi didn't wait and it was the last trip of the day. The couple had to pay $1400 to get another water taxi to the resort. This is ludicrous. The mosquitoes at night were horrendous. We had to take parts of our meal back to the room because we were getting eaten. There is no beach service. The lounge chairs are under a tiki hut that are about 50 ft off the beach behind some dunes....very little view of the water...and there was no one serving those chairs so you had to get up and go to the main resort to get a drink. Although only after inquiry they said they would bring us drinks and a beach umbrella...but even then it was with a bit of a "well, if you want it..." The cleaning service left behind trash almost every night. We didn't see one person in the pool all week. Its too far back and stuck behind dunes. If you are in the pool you cant really see the beach all that well. It needs to be 100 ft closer to the ocean. We love sitting by the pool looking at the ocean. You can't do that here. Minor things (although they would have been handled differently at a Four Seasons level resort). I asked if we could get ice to our room. Instead of bringing me ice, they made me walk down with my ice bucket to get ice. At the "Managers reception" the manager asked me "Can I get you a drink?" To me that indicated that the drink was on him especially since this manager reception was advertised as free food and drink. I was charged for the drink. These are minor but it just shows there is a miss here on the service side. I wouldn't expect these things be perfect from a Marriott at $350 a night...but like I said we paid $1800 and these things fell below expectations.

Thank you to all the staff

We just love going to Pine Cay. In fact we have been about 7 times. The rooms are on the beach and are fabulous. The staff are so friendly and very efficient. The food is great and the chef is the best. Levi and Kirk took very good care of us especially our special coffee in the mornings. We are already booking for 2025.
