Reviews for The Oberoi, Mauritius

True resort gem with great food

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

We booked our Premier Ocean View Villa by using the hotel's website without issues. After arriving from our long-haul flight, picking up a rental car and driving for around one hour, we were warmly welcomed at the resort. As our room was not ready yet (we arrived around 10 in the morning), we were led to a day room for use in the meantime. Check-in was done in the room. Somewhat unusual for us, but apparently group policy, the room expenses for the entire stay (minus the prepayment) were collected at this time and a further deposit for incrementals was charged to our credit card. After freshing up a bit, we explored the resort's beautiful grounds. One of the reasons for choosing the Oberoi was that it is not a large hotel complex but that it consists of individual villas and guest rooms (three rooms combined in one smaller one-story buildings). The gardens are beautifully maintained - a true gem to stay at! The closeness to Port Louis is both a blessing and a curse. It is great for easy shopping, but it also means that you will see larger tankers and container ships moored near Port Louis from the resort. We had a first lunch at On the Rocks. It already gave us a good taste of the cuisine to be expected. Wonderfully fresh seafood, prepared with greatest care and to perfection. The shrimps were cooked to the point and the octopus / calamari were the most tender ones we ever had. Every dish we had here was a delight. You will also make friends with many of the birds living here. They are not shy and will ask for their share of your lunch or dinner. We were particularly surprised by the ducks making their rounds in the restaurants - and we found it cute. Our villa with its own garden and pool, provided for great privacy. It was clean and well maintained. AC was efficient - noting that mid May is most enjoyable in terms of temperature. We may have had a maximum of 30 degrees during the day and comfortable cool during the night. It got a bit cooler when there was a brief rain shower, often accompanied by some wind. Given that the villa is stand-alone, there is no noise from any neighbour and sleep is sound. We only snorkelled once right of the jetty. The beach is beautiful to look at but not really swimmable, rather for a quick refreshment dip. The whale and dolphin excursion booked with the boat house was a great experience as you have the boat to yourselves. Service was great all around. All staff we interacted with were kind, friendly and knowledgeable. The rum tasting was good fun. The location of the hotel is also good for excursions with your own car, and we did a bit of driving around. All in all, we had a great time. The grounds and the villa were great and peaceful; the dining was a consistent pleasure as was the interaction with staff. Thank you!

A Truly Memorable Return Visit

We returned to The Oberoi Beach Resort for a third time and were delighted once again. Thank you to Natacha for taking such great care of us. Our pool villa was stunning, well equipped, and set in a beautiful, peaceful location — I already miss our daily dips. The food was exceptional, with varied and delicious menus throughout. Special thanks to Mevin, Prakesh, and Chef Singh. The bar, overlooking the beach, was a highlight, and Amal looked after us brilliantly. The staff were outstanding, making us feel welcome from start to finish. A truly relaxing stay

Truly exceptional stay!

Our third visit to the beautiful The Oberoi Beach Resort, Mauritius and once again it exceeded all expectations. The rooms are fantastic, beautifully maintained, spacious, and incredibly comfortable, while the service throughout the resort is truly exceptional. We received such a warm and friendly welcome back, which made our stay feel even more special. A special mention to Amal at the bar for his outstanding cocktails — his Apple Martini quickly became my favourite! In the main restaurant, Prakesh and Mevin were attentive, professional, and always made dining a pleasure. We also have to thank Chef Singh, who prepared a delicious Greek salad for us on our last day that was absolutely perfect. A wonderful resort with amazing people who make every stay memorable.

Luxury tranquil hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Oberoi Beautifully kept luxury hotel about 50 minutes drive from the airport. Immaculate gardens. Delicious food and amazing service. Lovely location too. Still warm in May with occasional light showers. We stayed in a beach view villa with own pool which was just a few steps from the beach and close to one of the 2 pools. The adults only pool is in a lovely quiet setting. We enjoyed the Herb Trail restaurant and On The Rocks which both needed reservations and Le Restaurant had a great menu for breakfast and dinner (no reservations needed). The hotel is very tranquil (in May anyway) and I believe it was only half full. Busy times are Oct to March. A special shout out to Preety at the spa who was truly amazing! All staff are extremely courteous and helpful.
