Beautiful setting, on the west coast of the island, quiet secluded hotel. Fantastic staff. Beautiful surroundings cant say enough about them. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

This is hospitality!

Service: I’m putting this first because this is where Oberoi Mauritius stands out. Absolutely the very best hospitality. Everyone there is on a mission to make sure you are comfortable and happy. Location: We stayed in August, winter in Mauritius. Family on the island suggested staying on that side of the island because the other side can get super windy during that time. Weather was PERFECT. It was a journey to some of the places we visited, but it was so worth it to have superior conditions. Atmosphere: Don’t know where to begin, but Oberoi wins on atmosphere across the board. In a word, HEAVEN. Rooms: Fantastic! Only thing I wish they had were power outlets or at least usb power outlets next to the bed. But the room itself was wonderful. Specially, the lofted ceiling, shower&soaking tub overlooking your private little garden space (you can close the door to the outside if that weirds you out but the wall is close and high, nothing to worry about), and the VIEW FROM MY BED! (see picture). Value: This is very objective. The family’s goal was to have a wonderful time together and create lifetime memories for the kids. Mission accomplished! We did the half-board meaning breakfast and dinner was included. Every meal was a culinary delight! There was typically 2 free activities per day available plus musical entertainment at the bar. Some of these are excursions and some were right at the hotel. If you can stay awake and the weather corporates, the star gazing is great. There was even a magic show which I was sad to miss, as we were late returning from a day out. The hotel can help arrange anything you want to do including taxis, etc. Oh special shout out to the staff at the boat house. My whole family but especially the kids enjoyed all the water activities. Cleanliness: perfect, no issues the whole time we were there. Noise level: No issues. It was peaceful. One night I went to the adult pool late for some alone time floating and looking at stars. That pool is closer to the edge of the property and I heard some music coming from the neighboring property. Tips: 1. Room location: I’d recommend staying closer to On The Rocks/family pool side rather than the adult pool area for the above reason and also to be closer to the dining, beach, and bar. We were in room 414 and very happy. My mom in 409 and my kids in 410. My room had the advantage of the back door leading to a lawn that could shortcut to On The Rocks/family pool and the beach path and had a pretty great view. Their rooms were on the opposite side and had an even better view, facing towards more of Turtle Bay. But they didn’t get that nice little shortcut. The grounds are so nice that you will enjoy strolling around, but there was a few times I enjoyed my shortcut! So if you want to request which way your room faces think about whether you prefer the bigger view across the bay or less walking. In any case you will be happy! 2. Dining: the half-baked plan was fantastic! The fish cooked in clay, lobster at On The Rocks, and the Indian and Creole dishes were highlights. Also do the cooking class if you have time. You don’t have to cook, you just watch and get to ask questions. You get to eat the results! Oh and of course the special dining options Gunpowder Room and Herb Trail dining were fantastic! Thats about it! Thank you Oberoi for the amazing memories. :)

What makes this resort special is that you never feel like you're just sitting on a beach chair waiting for the day to pass. Their 'Touching Senses' program is brilliant. I ended up joining a morning pottery class and an afternoon wine tasting, which gave a nice rhythm to my days and led to some great conversations with other guests. I savoured my daily highlight; simply watching the sunset over Turtle Bay with a delicious cocktail.
