Reviews for The Oberoi, Mauritius

Highly recommend, beautiful resort and worth every penny. Service is unmatched!

One of the most beautiful and unique resorts we’ve ever stayed at. The service provided by the staff was exceptional. My wife was pregnant and they assisted in every way possible such as transport with a golf cart around the resort, providing in room dining and customized menu based on our dietary restrictions. They offered a lot of complimentary activities such as water sports and a cooking class. Highly recommend the kayaking trip. Special thanks to the team that gave us exceptional service throughout our stay such as Chef Deepak, Chef Kishan and Chef Harry, Manager Shaan and our in room dining butler Chris.

Beautiful vacation spot

We enjoyed a beautiful vacation here in March. The resort is lovely, spacious & well maintained. Food & Beverages top rate but the shining light of this hotel is the staff, who are excellent. Particular credit to Shaan, Omaar, Preshant & Mervin who go the extra mile each & every day. The hotel are so very fortunate to be represented by these exemplary staff members. Beautiful location for a peaceful, luxury break away. Highly recommend.

Amazing experience

Had an amazing stay at the Oberoi Mauritius. From the moment you arrive, you feel being treated like a king in a small paradise. The property really is a small paradise, so beautiful, it is just a pleasure walking around at the property. Rooms are really amazing, very modern and super clean. Need to admit out of different hotels we have stayed the past years, the best room we ever got on different levels. Service is impeccable, everybody is so friendly and will assist you wherever possible. The swimming pool and beach area are really nice, and they do have lots of water activities for free. Oberoi is maybe one of the most underrated hotels in Mauritius, but certainly one of the most luxurious. We hope to be back very soon.

Incredible hotel

Oberoi at its best in this fabulous luxury hotel. Stunning location, incredibly comfortable accommodation, incredible service and the staff generally cannot do enough for you and incredible food. Our sincere gratitude in particular to Chef Singh, who cooked something very special almost every day and ensured we had the finest Mauritian food. We can not wait to return.

Outstanding

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

A few days have passed since arriving home from this incredible hotel and we have had a little time to let the dust settle, the jetlag recede and reflect on 10 days of absolute bliss. The Oberoi brand is new to us and, having done a fair bit of research prior to booking our holiday, we quickly came to realise that this could be something very special – we were not disappointed. Warning – this a long one... On arrival, we were met by 3 members of the Oberoi team, who offered us refreshing cold towels and a delicious "Virgin Mojito" which was served in the arrivals pavilion with breath-taking views over the immaculate gardens, lake and, just beyond, the deep blue of the Indian Ocean, sparkling in the early afternoon sun. We were then escorted by the lovely Amanda to our home for the next 10 days- a beautiful garden villa. Approached via a soft yellow pathway flanked by lush, tropical gardens and accessed by heavy wooden gates, this villa is complemented with a raised, palm-thatched dining pavilion with a view of the ocean (a perfect spot for our early-morning coffee), a patio area with 2 sun-loungers and parasol and a perfectly private walled garden. Stepping stones hewn from black volcanic rock led our way to the glazed door into the villa where our luggage has already been deposited. The main room comprises a huge 4-poster bed ( topped with the biggest, fluffiest and most sumptuously comfortable pillows either of us have previously experienced (also a pillow menu so you will most definitely find the right pillow combo), a sitting area and coffee table (delicious welcome nibbles and fresh fruit provided) , a large wall-mounted TV (complimentary Netflix), tea & coffee facilities and a well-stocked mini-bar. There is also a desk/dressing table with mirror, a separate dressing room with ample room for even my copious luggage, drawer space and a built-in safe. Plug sockets are the same as UK sockets, which is a definite advantage (Bring some multiway adapters to charge all your devices). The bathroom is huge and gorgeous with a sunken bath, walk-in shower, sink area/loo, lots of white fluffy towels and bathrobes. The room was serviced twice daily; in the morning the villa is cleaned, bed made up, water & mini-bar re-stocked, and turn-down service carried out in the evenings. Little touches such as bags laid out on a tray for laundry etc, a menu for in-room breakfast service plus cards high-lighting events scheduled for the following day are left out for guests to plan their day. Thanks to Vasudha and Niraj for making sure our room was comfortable and spotless - sadly we didn't get the name of the lovely young lady at turn-down but thanks to her too. The gardens are immaculate and a thing of beauty, bursting with lush greenery and delicate hibiscus, the beaches are soft & golden, echoing the footpaths that meander around the resort. The main beach, complete with sunbeds and thatched cabanas, overlooking the beautiful, rock-fringed shoreline, is close to the restaurant & bar areas, the Gunpowder Room, Herb Garden and boutique being just beyond. There are two stunningly beautiful pools; the main pool boasts beautiful Balinese style statuary and black volcanic rocks and is the backdrop for a smaller beach area, guarded by tall pillars, the tops of which are lit with fire in the evenings. Turtle Bay Pool is for adults only and provides a beautifully quiet and peaceful haven to spend the morning reading, swimming, gazing across the bay and deciding what to have for lunch! Plenty of sunbeds, parasols, refreshments, including iced water, cold towels, a water spritz, and fresh fruit skewers are provided by the wonderfully attentive staff. At sunset, the place to be is sipping a cocktail in the open-side bar pavilion overlooking the main beach and ocean, as the sun performs its most beautiful final act of the day, setting beneath the horizon and painting the sky myriad shades of orange, pink and purple. The evening entertainment compliments the ambiance perfectly, adding to the overall atmosphere of relaxation and peace. The open-sided main restaurant serves the most amazing breakfasts and dinners (be sure to try the dosa for breakfast). In the mornings we were greeted by the lovely smiling face of Aina who then escorted to our table. In the evenings this exquisite restaurant transforms into a magical oasis, illuminated by soft lighting and the glow of flaming torches located in the water surrounding the dining area. The food and the service are faultless. Even my handbag got its own little seat!! The Gunpowder Room is a pre-bookable dinner experience not to be missed. We shared a table with another couple of guests and had a truly lovely evening. Again, the food is unbelievable! The location is also very special, being a part of the old French fortress that stood on this site. On the Rocks, located adjacent to the main pool, is an absolute must-do. We visited this beautifully located restaurant – which is right on the rocks – on several occasions, both for lunch and dinner (dinner booking required) and were treated to the most delicious food every time – the prawn tacos were a favourite of mine – but the dinner menu was truly outstanding. The freshly caught, local fish was delicious as was the Australian beef tenderloin, the entire menu being prepared and immaculately presented by Singh and Sanju. Thanks to both wonderfully talented chefs for an unforgettable dinner of captain fish and tiger prawns on our final evening at the Oberoi. You both made this a truly lovely evening for us. The ten days of our holiday were memorable for many reasons, some of which I have mentioned above. However, the crowning glory of this wonderful resort is, without doubt, the most excellent team who conspire to make guests feel as welcome as old friends and as special as celebrities. We would like to mention the following team members as being particularly special to us during our holiday; Vikram, the General Manager, who sought us out at dinner to welcome us to the hotel and waved us off when we said goodbye Amanda, who gave us our first taste of incredible Oberoi hospitality Rossan (food and beverage) who constantly went above and beyond to meet our needs and was always trying to get me to have more pancakes! Aina, with the lovely smile and warm welcome at breakfast Chef Singh (Commis Chef) and Chef Sanju ,On the Rocks. What can we say? Brilliant! Thanks to both Nivis – constantly smiling and happy in his work with ambitions to become General Manager someday – I think he’d be great! Soloman, Pavan and Shelar – all lovely, so respectful and polite and excellent in their roles Dinesh – so sorry Liverpool is having a bad end to the season... Ayushi, Guest Services Neetu, Housekeeping Supervisor Vasudha & Niraj, Housekeeping Our turn-town lady And last but by no means, least, the wonderful Shaun. What would we have done without this man? He was everywhere! He really couldn’t do enough for us and we are both so grateful to him – and the entire Oberoi team – for making our holiday the best we’ve ever experienced. We are plotting our return.
