The Oberoi, Mauritius in Turtle Bay, Mauritius

Isolated from the world, a serene gem in the Indian Ocean, the verdant island of Mauritius invites you to escape and unwind in the lap of luxury at The Oberoi Mauritius. Along 600 meters of crystalline oceanfront, with a blend of European, African and Asian style, guest villas at this exquisite hotel are a perfect fusion of beach bungalow and stylish modernity. Comfortable and plush, each room has a breezy tropical atmosphere, with sunken baths overlooking open-air gardens, and an abundance of warm light. Breathe in the fresh air as you recline in your gazebo, or splash in your private pool, all the while enjoying the incredible surroundings. As you gaze out over the ocean from underneath your thatched roof, take in the sweeping mountains in the distance, and sink into the blissful ambiance of The Oberoi Mauritius.

Walk right down to the beach and dive into the warm island waters, or go windsurfing, water skiing and sailing under the magnificent tropical sun. Visit the village of Chamarel on the southwestern side of the island and see the Seven Colored Earth" - a place where volcanic sediment cooled at different temperatures creates a stunning rainbow of colored rock and sand. Be sure to take in Chamarel Falls, dropping 100 meters from the Saint Denis River into a lush gorge. Hike over 60 kilometers of forest trails in Black River Gorges National Park, and be amazed by the fascinating rare birds and plant life. Climb high into the mountains of Savanne, 1800 feet above sea level, and visit the temple of Lord Shiva at the sacred Ganga Talao Lake. Enjoy a fantastic day of canyonning around seven different waterfalls, and adventure out by rappelling through the falls, diving into clear pools, and sliding down natural rock formations. For a day of leisure, golf at numerous courses around the island, relax on a yacht cruise along the shores, or pamper yourself at The Oberoi Spa. As the sun sets over the island, sit down at The Restaurant and dine on continental, Oriental and Creole cuisine, then enjoy a perfectly mixed cocktail at the bar as the stars shine over The Oberoi Mauritius.

My husband and I stayed at The Oberoi for our honeymoon last July. The service from all staff we encountered was second to none. Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. There were several lovely touches in our for our honeymoon, including Mr & Mrs cushions on the sofa and one evening we came back to find rose petals in the bath with candles around it. The food in the restaurant for dinner was exceptional and the Japanese Omakase in the powder room was memorable. We couldn't fault this hotel and would thoroughly recommend it for a honeymoon or a holiday in Mauritius.

The Oberoi is not a typical Hotel as you feel that you are in a village because of all the villas, which is really very special and private. The Resort is so peacefull, pretty, green, relaxing, fantastic food and very kind staff. Especially the Wedding cereromy was so special well actually is was our Renewal of Vows which was perfectly organised and so so romantic

From the moment we arrived after a 12 hour flight we felt totally at home and this was enhanced by Amanda from Guest Relations who cared for us from the time we arrived to the time we departed.....thank you Amanda for your kindness and also for helping us celebrate our special anniversaries. Room 325 was just perfect as it was one minute's walk to the beach and yet was totally secluded. The terrace opened up onto a beautiful garden which was, along with the rest of the property, maintained to a very high standard. The hotel is located in about 20 acres of mature and beautifully landscaped tropical gardens. The Oberoi strategy of only building on a maximum of 15% of the land available made the whole setting simply luxurious. The food was the best hotel food we have experienced on any of our holiday or business trips, certainly Michelin Star standard and this was made very special by Igor Bocchia, the Executive Chef who offered A La Carte food at breakfast and dinner. His staff were very well trained and you always felt that they were one step ahead of your request at every stage of a meal and Igor made his presence felt at every meal.....when does he relax? They were all very polite, courteous and did their job to a very high standard, A special mention to Swaraz Beegun for his cookery course and for a personalised Mauritian Cookery Course later in the holiday...much appreciated and we will try his recipes when we get home. In summary after staying in 11 different hotels in Mauritius over 20 years this is clearly the best we have visited and we will return and would recommend it to any discerning holiday makers. A couple of meetings with Mr Dhiren Pereira, the General Manager gave us great confidence that this was a very well managed hotel.
