An amazing experience at the Oberoi Mauritius. Fantastic team who went over and above to look after us all the time. Fantastic location, easy to get to, but also very private and tranquil. Wonderful grounds to see and enjoy. We can’t wait to return.

Impressive response to feedback reflects Oberoi brand values

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Overall experience The hotel deserves its 5 star rating but our first visit here fell short of the expected Oberoi experience in certain respects. Response to feedback The sign of an excellent brand and team is the way they respond to constructive criticism and feedback. When I provided the following feedback to the General Manager, on the last day of our 5 day visit, I received a prompt response from him (even though it was his day off) and other members of his team (including the excellent Natacha) - which clearly showed the team care, are keen to listen and eager to continually improve. Their response ensured we left the hotel feeling reassured by the values of Oberoi and their desire to ensure all guests leave happy. That is a credit to the team and to Oberoi. The positives There were certainly some touches of Oberoi quality, that we had experienced on visits to other Oberoi hotels. Raj (the limousine driver)) is a credit to the hotel and we were delighted by the tours and airport transfers we booked with him in the BMW 7 series; I would recommend him to every guest - a charming, knowledgeable and customer focused man. The greeting and check-in was well handled. The housekeeping team was excellent - with daily Oberoi touches. The many staff we met were all welcoming and helpful. The tennis court is a great facility. We didn’t have the chance to use the beach sailing/kyaking facilities, but it seems a very good provision. We very much appreciated the late check out. The breakfast menu is very good. The provision of a separate dressing room for clothes and luggage was very useful. The negatives - Our room was in the middle of a terrace of 3 sea-view bungalows. We were lucky that during our stay that no one was staying in the rooms either side of us. Had there been people there, we would have found the noise transference between the rooms unacceptable (at 07:30 on our final morning one room was being prepared for a visitor and the noise of scraping furniture, running water and other annoying sounds was very intrusive). When sitting outside we would have disliked the lack of privacy between the neighbouring terraces - being able to see the neighbour’s sun loungers and presumably overhearing their conversations due to our proximity to the other rooms. - Whilst our experience in the restaurants and bar was generally very good, we spoke to other guests who had mixed or poor experiences (noisy children at one meal, proximity of other diners in the gunpowder room, and an incident of slow service). - The (complimentary) visit to see a “Hindu Ceremony” was an interesting tour of the local temple but we did not see a ceremony. - The price of wine was very high as was the pricing of the mini bar (£90 for a half bottle of Veuve Cliquot for example). - We were unable to enjoy our last evening here due to loud music being played at a neighbouring hotel until mid-night. I don’t know how often this occurs (the note in our room indicated it was a one-off), but I think I have seen other comments about this online.
