The Leela Palace Udaipur

We spent four truly wonderful nights at this property. Our original plan had been to visit Jaipur; however, due to limited availability at the Leela there, we were advised to consider Udaipur instead. We arrived with no particular expectations, but what followed was an exceptional experience. We were booked on the Leela Palace Trail package, which was absolutely outstanding. Prior to arriving in Udaipur, we had spent five nights at The Leela Palace in Delhi—an experience I have reviewed separately—and the high standard set there continued seamlessly into our stay here. To be candid, I do not believe the hotel’s website does this property justice. It is simply breathtaking, with a spectacular setting on the lake. Our lake-view room was beautiful — spacious, thoughtfully designed, and complemented by a generous walk-in closet. I particularly appreciated the bathroom layout, with the bathtub set apart from the rest of the space. The view from our room was serene and genuinely captivating. The service throughout our stay was impeccable, especially in the dining and bar areas. A special mention to Rituraj for his excellent cocktails, as well as Sanjay and Saurav for their attentive service. We dined at the hotel most evenings, enjoying both Sheesh Mahal and the local restaurant — each experience was memorable. On one occasion, the chef very kindly prepared a special dish for me on request (khadi, rice, aloo fry), which was exceptional. The hotel also arranged a lakeside high tea for us, which was as beautiful as it was indulgent. We booked two excursions through the hotel. The first was a City Palace tour with Anil, our driver, who was both knowledgeable and delightfully personable. The following day, we explored the old town on the hotel’s tuk-tuk again with Anil — a thoroughly enjoyable experience, weaving through narrow alleys, stopping for chai, and browsing local shops. I would highly recommend doing this early in the morning before it becomes crowded; it was, without question, one of the highlights of our stay. We also participated in a private yoga session by the lake, which was peaceful and truly special. A particularly charming aspect of the experience was the hotel ferry, which transported us across Lake Pichola to and from the property, and even took us out for dinners on certain evenings. It added an extra layer of magic to the stay. I look back on this visit with immense fondness. This was my eighth trip to India, and I can confidently say that Udaipur has become my favorite city. It is, in every sense, a hidden gem.

Leela Palace Udaipur is pure magic. Gorgeous location, royal feel, and exceptional service.
