Temper Expectations - It's all based on Units' Owner

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I just completed my fourth stay at Vail Racquet Club. Your stay at VRC is directly based on the unit you get. Each unit is owned individually and amenities are based on what the owner provides. The condition of the unit is also based on owner upkeep. My first three stays here were great - 4 or 5 stars each. My latest stay would rank 1 star. It was just that bad. This is a summary of the issues: Pots and pans severely damaged with coating flaking off. Limited number of pots & pans. No pantry to speak of (details below). Very limited shelf / drawer space in bedroom (details below). No dish rack. Many lights / switches not working. Unit is dim. Bed soft and lumpy. Broken cabinets. Lack of appliances (compared to previous stays). Previous units that I had stayed in were well taken care of with lots of extras. Here there is none of that. Even basic utensils did not work (a can opener that would not engage). Cooking was problematic as the pans all had flaking non stick coatings. The pantry is set up with a single shelf, set high, with a can of paint and light bulbs on that single shelf. A broom is under the shelf. So, there is no room at all for food supplies. (Previous units had the pantry set up with multiple availabe shelves - and the broom placed with the water heater). The drawer / shelf space in the bedroom is limited. The closet has shelves, but they are taken up with bedding supplies (for the living room sofa). The forks/spoons/knives are thrown into a drawer. No organizer. In the bedroom there is a DVD player. Yes, a DVD player. However, it isn’t plugged in. There are only two outlets behind the TV - one being used on the TV, the other the cable box. If you are going to provide a DVD player at least have some sort of outlet spltter so it could be plugged in. Staff here is quite good and can provide assistance with requests such as towels and bathroom supplies. But when it comes to what's furnished in the unit, nothing can be done. There was no dish rack, so that's that. The humidifier didn't work properly, but they didn't have spares. Internet connectivity and speed was excellent on all my stays.

Just OK for price

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Rather dated, prob built in 80, and the construction, old paint jobs and other features show it (the website's pictures are a bit misleading). But that would be OK if kept up. We had a 3 story, 3 bedroom townhome and the three heating units (electric baseboard units) on ground floor where the living area and kitchen are did not work. One morning it was < 10 degrees Fahrenheit out and it was freezing on ground floor. Electric outlet in master bathroom sink area also did not work. Minor: No cutting board in kitchen (who can prepare meals without one these days?). Also minor: In pool locker room, swimming suit spinner did not work, and there were almost no available lockers open for use. Place needs work-over by electricians. Seems to add up to a picture that maintenance and upkeep are being short-shrifted. Probably because they can rent them out fully at current demand? So it's OK but just that. Bus to Vail Village is convenient. (That lovely steaming, large outside pool in the pic: barely lukewarm and so no one used it, so hot tubs were jammed).

Last minute New Year's Eve Trip to Vail

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Made a last minute trip to Vail for New Year's Eve week. As it was peak holiday season an average hotel room starting price was $1200 per night. We were so fortunate to find the Vail Racquet Club Mountain Resort. About a 10 minute drive from Vail proper connected by shuttles running every 15 minutes, we found it to be conveniently located. Set in a wooded area we stayed in a one-bedroom condo with kitchen, living area with fireplace and balcony with a gas grill for about $400 per night. We did not use pool/hot tub but would pass it on the way to the shuttle and the facilities looked nice. There is a restaurant/bar open in main building most nights. We parked right in front of our accommodations. We will definitely stay here again.

Comfortable apartment in East Vail

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

This is a condominium style resort in East Vail. Although the buildings look old from the outside, my one bedroom apartment was fresh and modern inside, with only the bathroom being a bit dated. The shower was excellent however. The apartment was clean and very quiet, with an exceptionally well equipped kitchen and a large lounge area. It was very warm and had excellent wifi. The bed was comfortable. There was ample free uncovered parking next to the building. Despite its location, the free shuttle bus to Vail village made access to the ski slopes easy especially if you can leave your skis and boots at a rental place in the village. The only negatives were the two flights of external stairs to my second story apartment - challenging when arriving in heavy snow with all my ski gear. Also the apartment lacked laundry facilities - only shared laundry facilities available.

Excellent option for Vail

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

It is a great option for those that want to ski. It has an excellent cost/benefit relation since the resort has 3 hot tubes, Yoga class, pool, excellent gym besides being very close to Vail downtown. There is a free bus that passes every 15 minutes to go to the ski base. Rooms are very comfortable. I would definitely recommend to prepare dinner/breakfast in the apartment. The kitchen is full equiped. Gastronomy in Vail is expensive and not good. The last but not least is the reception. They are very attencious. I totally recommend staying in Vail Racquet Club.
