From check in to check out it was amazing!!. To welcome drinks, the room, great pool, spa and food. Breakfast was insane, there was so much choice and everyone catered for and considered!! But I must mention Jordan the concierge, what a lovely man. Nothing was too much trouble, he was informative and passionate about Malta and advised us of everything beautiful to see and do, this was perfect as we were a short stay with only 5 nights, he recommended the hotel restaurant too and the food was as described, delicious!! He is a credit to the hotel, he made our stay, 5 stars!!! The curtesy car to the centre was a god send in the hot Malta weather. I will definitely be staying here again in the future and have already recommended to friends and family. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had a lovely week long stay at the hotel, Nice spacious room on the 9th floor with a large balcony. The hotel itself is slightly tatty, however it has an old world charm that negates the worn furniture etc. Beautiful pool area where you can watch the yachts come and go. The service is exceptional, with an abundance of friendly staff. Spent some time at the bar on the 6th floor where Suresh, Manish and Laxmi all serve you with a smile. Took a couple of trips booked via reception. These were provided by Edmond Garages, excellent company, Edmond treated us to two fantastic journeys. Written a separate review. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again

We stayed here and yes some updating is needed - furniture is older and traditional and tiles in bathroom were chipped. However some lovely features - separate bath and large shower with powerful shower. The toilet flushing slow but this did not interfere with my stay. The housekeeping came in the evening to top up any toiletries turn down the beds and sweet and polite and quiet given it was evening. Courteous. Breakfast is ok - think more choice would be good only soya or cow milk. Chia seeds, different seed mixes would be good addition. Hotel in fabulous location but definitely not wheelchair friendly or for those with heart and respiratory conditions or poor mobility as too many stairs. At least 50-100 to the main road into Valletta. Gym is small - no personal trainers in sight - ok for a holiday gym. The equipment is functional and view very nice. Overall we did enjoy our stay.

There's lots of reviews on here saying "it's not 5 star" or "it's dated/tired/needs renovation". If you're the sort of person that takes a photo of yourself frowning while pointing at a mark on the wall to post on a review - this isn't the hotel for you! A 5 star hotel is different depending on which country you're in. This isn't London or Dubai. But if you want better, price up a room in The Phoenicia next door, compare it to the price of the Grand Excelsior Malta and then decide what you're willing to pay. This is an excellent value hotel with a lovely old-fashioned charm. It looks fabulous when you arrive and we were greeted by a lovely doorman who guided us to check-in, brought us a lovely non-alcoholic welcome cocktail and then explained the floors and directed us to our room. 5 star service! The room and bathroom were spacious. We had a deluxe double with a firm (which I prefer) super king bed, plenty of storage and a big bathroom with bath and separate shower. Our view was over the hotel front and had a balcony. The furniture is a bit chipped and the bathroom tiles are a little tired, but everywhere is spotless, comfortable and works perfectly. I joined i-Prefer to book, so not sure if this was a member benefit or if everyone gets this, but we had the gift of a bottle of red wine and a tin of Maltese biscuits on the desk. We received two bottles of still water every day (there's a mini fridge too), tea, coffee, sugar and little UHT milk pots. There was shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion that were all replaced when needed. There was also a dental kit, shaving kit, emery board, shower cap, cotton buds, soap bars, shoe mitt and sewing kit. The turn down service every evening was nice and there was always a little chocolate either side of the bed. The bathrobes are lovely and soft, there are slippers you can keep too. Breakfast was efficient with plenty of choice. The English breakfast fare wasn't great but I don't tend to eat that abroad so not an issue for me. Muesli, fresh fruit, toast, pastries are all great. There are lots of Maltese choices and continental choices too. The pots of tea and coffee were either hot or warm, so I just took teabags from the room and made a cuppa from the hot water near the juice and the skimmed milk near the cereal. If you want a barista coffee, you have to pay, although I think my cappuccino was from a machine. The hotel has a lovely, fancy old fashioned but tasteful decor. I loved the sweeping staircases, the furniture and big windows looking out to the pool and bay. The pool is really big and really clean. There are plenty of sunbeds, umbrellas and pool towels provided. You're only allowed one towel and they're not long enough so they really need to provide sunbed covers too. The pool tiles are pale but they're hot in the sun, so take flip flops. We barely heard any construction work and the Ocean bar had just reopened - the seating area and view over the water is beautiful! The Yacht club staff are really slow if you order from your sunbed, best to go to the bar, order, pay and then they bring drinks over fairly quickly. We are booked to go back next month and we can't wait!

Fabulous pool and lovely spacious bedrooms and bathrooms. Friendly staff The hotel is well located, easy walk to the centre of Valletta although we were lazy a few times and got the hotel shuttle bus, we blame the heat for our laziness! Also perfectly situated to get the ferry to Gozo, a "little boat" to the Three Cities and the bus to the Blue Grotto and Mdina. We will be back next year.
