Service not so "Grand" - a 4 star hotel at best!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 hours ago

Nice hotel in a great location but the level of service overall was pretty poor - we won't be back! The management need to address staff training as a priority. We've stayed in many high quality hotels and this one cannot justify it's 5 star pricing! The pool service was almost non-existent and the sickly "cocktails" that eventially arrived were obviously out of a bottle - unless they've come across the silent cocktail shaker.........!!

Great Holiday Hotel Review

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Hotel was great, all the staff were willing to help and were always polite and cheerful. Two people we would like to mention, Everton and Tasha. Everton is a Guest Relations Agent looked after us very well. Tasha from the Housekeeping Team was always very polite and made sure our room (618) was always cleaned. They are a great example of the hotel staff and a great hotel.

A fantastic stay

We stayed as a family group in the Presidential Suite. The service we received from all the staff we came across was exceptional. They were always pleasant and so professional. It was my partners birthday the day we arrived and they sent up a bottle of fizz and a piece of cake which was a lovely thought. We enjoyed the location of the hotel as it was a fairly easy walk into Valletta. The pool area was spotlessly clean and our suite was kept immaculate with the bathroom being cleaned twice a day! The breakfasts were really good with a lot of choice. We had room service one evening and ate in the restaurant another evening, both were good meals. We would definitely stay again.

What a pity one area let’s the hotel down

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I have given this hotel a 3 star rating, as one of the main areas is a total shambles. Let’s talk about the good and great experiences. This is our 3rd holiday this year is quality hotels so far. The good. Wow, what a choice of food for breakfast, there is something for everyone and the staff are really helpful and pleasant. The pool area, fabulous with sun beds for everyone when you need them. It’s a nice clean area with good pool service. Rooms are traditional, spotless with friendly, polite and pleasant room staff. Reception, what a good team which includes the concierge service. Polite and very professional. Now, let’s get to bar area on the ground level six, which also offers food. What a shambolic experience, not once, but continuously. This can only be blamed on poor management, for neglecting the needs of residents. The staff seem new and there appears to be a language barrier between residents and also staff on staff. Many times we would order, then 10 minutes later, we would again be asked what the order was. There appears to be a lack of new staff training. On one occasion we asked to sign for our drinks and noticed there was a gin and tonic we had not received. The way we were asked about this was like being a criminal being interrogated. It was obvious we had only one round of drinks, as we were off out for the night. However, they were insisting somebody must have had it and asked us if someone on the table before us had the drink….. we don’t know that. 3 members of staff and one manger later, it was agreed we hadn’t. Now here’s our next issue in the same area. We wanted to watch a particular premier league game on TV. We asked if it would be available, if not, no problem, we would go out and watch it in a local bar. It was like pulling teeth. We spoke to staff, who told us they were sending a manager over to sort the TV out. 4 managers and 25 minutes later, one manager James, resolved the situation and a good night was had by all, after being ignored, fobbed off and not given the correct information. This particular area in the hotel , regarding the staff, training and customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Simple issues can spoil what could be a fabulous experience.

Very upscale hotel. No complaints.

This is a beautiful hotel in a convenient location--a quick walk to the old town and restaurants but beware the 69 steps up to street level (yep, I counted 'em). Staff was great. Friendly and eager to please. Room was very clean and spacious. Gorgeous views from our terrace. Elaborate pool. Nice, comfortable lobby and bar area. Room service in the morning was very prompt.
