Comfortable hotel

Great location in downtown Vancouver. Near most of the attractions and interesting neighborhoods like China town and gas town. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance. Hotel is clan with good size rooms. Staff was friendly and helpful. Nice on site restaurant and bar with good food. Very convenient to the cruise port and about 40 minute drive from airport. Competitive pricing with the area..

Great option in downtown Vancouver!

By far, my favorite hotel in the Vancouver area! Aside from the great location in downtown Vancouver, this hotel offers it all. Great service, comfortable rooms, a good restaurant and just an overall welcoming atmosphere. I look forward to my future visits

A centrally located property with a dash of old-world charm

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

There are several mid/high-end Marriott properties in the Vancouver city center and water front area. This is a Renaissance Hotel that is now within the Marriott profile. It is well-located about 5-minute (walking) away from the Canada Line City Centre stations. The lobby is intimate and all staff members that I encountered were very pleasant and polite. I had a king room towards the corner. The room was of decent size, functional, clean with a nice lighting array. The bed and blanket are comfortable and of good quality. I appreciate the pillows of different firmness. The property is older, but i actually find some of the features and characters to be quite charming. There is a small fitness center and pool. Overall, I found the property of very good value.

Happy stay

We really enjoyed our stay. The service from both front desk, housekeeping and restaurant was excellent. It was really nice to have the doormen around to welcome us, wish us a good day. Flavoured water is available while you wait for the lift (also assisted by staff) and they were super nice to lend us an umbrella one day. The location is unbeatable. Although you can feel the hotel is not exactly new, they have kept it well and our stay was very comfortable. Our only complaint is that during peak seasons, prices are outrageous (as they are everywhere)

A Solid Property in a Great Location for Exploring

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

We had an opportunity to stay at this well-situated property for a few days to explore Vancouver prior to setting off to Whistler for a week of skiing. As my first visit (and only my husband’s third) to Vancouver, we wanted to stay where walking was the primary focus and a car wouldn’t be necessary for exploration. Admittedly, we arrived at the tail end of the Arctic Chill which brought unusually frigid temperatures to this usually temperately-climed city and set everyone we met talking about how strange the weather was! Hence, not as much exploring and a good thing that the team at the Metropolitan Hotel made for a pleasant stay since we spent more time on property than originally anticipated. As others have noted, the train was a quick entry point and had a station a mere block from the hotel entrance so we saved what was to be an Uber $75 surge price for a minimal train charge. Robert James, Senior Manager of Rooms and Operations was in touch prior to our arrival, and was able to make both an upgrade and an early arrival possible as our flight came in that morning. The front desk team was efficient in explaining the basics of the property including the breakfast vouchers and some of the key amenities. We quickly whisked to our room and upon opening the door were treated to a lovely amenity to celebrate my birthday which was later that same week! We did phone down for a couple of items we either wanted supplemented or had forgotten in our packing, all of which was delivered extremely quickly and with a smile by housekeeping. A previously requested humidifier was already in the room and ready to go. We did quickly decamp for some wandering about the city and food (more on that in other reviews for Black and Blue, Hawksworth and Archer). The property is well positioned in proximity to the Vancouver Art Museum, Canada Place and other cultural prizes in the city, as well as some posh shopping environments and top-end restaurants. That was beneficial as the previously noted harsh temperatures kept us closer to the hotel than previously expected! Upon our return to the Metropolitan, we did chat with the front desk team and learned that the hotel was in the process of being rebranded as a Renaissance property alongside some expected future renovations to key areas such as the lobby, restaurant, pool and weight room. I agree with some other notes that the property does look a bit dated in some areas but as it was previously flagged as a high-end luxury property I can see where the original details have worn well and still convey a subdued elegance. Breakfast was the only meal we enjoyed at the hotel, and we were suitably impressed by the portions and combinations. The voucher covered Continental breakfast options, but for a small up-charge we had access to the entire menu, to which we did take advantage. I heartily recommend the Avocado Toast and the Chorizo Skillet! Coffee was consistently refilled and service was on point. The bar did seem busy in the evenings, but we did not partake- As a lifetime Titanium Elite with Marriott, we do seek out properties in the portfolio to try and were delighted by this hotel’s location and attention to service. I felt well-recognized both for my status and for my pre-celebration amenities and would certainly put this hotel on our preferred list for our next visit to Vancouver. Everyone from the team, especially front desk, housekeeping and the AM restaurant team was on point and we truly appreciated their dedication.
