Several years ago my husband spent a month at the Makati Shangri-La in Manila. He continues to rave about the experience to this day. Looking for an idea for his birthday/our anniversary weekend he came upon the Shangri-La in Vancouver, BC.From the moment we arrived it was a magical experience. The courteous and respectful gentleman at the reception desk quicky got us checked in on March 23. He was very welcoming and asked if we were celebrating a special occasion to which we replied we were celebrating my husband's birthday. Our room was beautiful, comfortable, and stocked with everything we could need. The bed was amazing! We had planned to get out and see the city, but were so happy with the hotel we just stayed in. Each evening we went to the cocktail lounge, where the bar and wait staff were truly service oriented. The food at the bar and restaurant was superb. Our last night there we had the opportunity to chat with our bar server, Luigi, about world travels--great fun. The breakfast offerings were plentiful and flavorful, with kind and attentive service from Vana both mornings. Our final day there was my husband's birthday, and everyone greeted him by name and wished him a happy birthday. Throughout our stay every staff member we encounted exemplified a "service mentality"--anticipatory, helpful and genuinely friendly. It is the first time I've experienced in a hotel the level of service we are used to on 6-star cruise lines. Management is doing a wonderful job! We weren't back home long before we began planning our next visit. We've booked our next trip for the US Memorial Day holiday weekend. It will mean battling an even longer border crossing, but the Shangri-La Vancouver is worth the wait!

The room was stylish, and had a very comfortable bed. The hotel is in the heart of downtown, so it is a good location for business travelers. The one complaint I have is that my room, overlooking Georgia St, had a fair amount of traffic noise e.g. sirens, trucks. This dropped off late at night, and given the unusually comfortable bed, I had a good night's sleep.
Being a regular at Shangri-La all over Asia, It was very nice to see that it is indeed possible to offer the same level of services in Canada, I stayed about a week at the Vancouver Shangri-La and I was impress once again.

The hotel has a great location, well positioned to walk around downtown Vancouver. Excellent service provided. Very friendly and efficient. Large room, well laid out. Very good breakfast. Reception area is small but this is no big deal. Would certainly stay here again if I was in Vancouver.
