What you need to know at Melina lad antillas

Please do not wake up early for a chair at the beach unless you want the front. There are always seats available. The room was amazing as we were upgraded to vip which means we were on the 5 th floor for vips we had our own concierge’s which were amazing!!!! The staff awesome !! Now the bad part which is not the resorts fault!! The food of course is the issue I’ve been there before and managed very well but it’s awful to see what they are going through . We had at times no bread no eggs no butter no rum no cola for drinks and no ice!! I wanted a virgin strawberry daiquiris so bad but nope only pina colada's or mango juice. The lobster dinner we were to have had no lobster at all. The restaurant didn’t even have cola or juice as I don’t drink wine or beer. The next thing is the lagoon with the sharks, the smell was so bad at times I had to run to the hotel to get away from it. There is only one bar open after 7 and it had nothing but sparkling wine and whisky at times also service there is the worst !!! The store in the hotel has no food not a snack in sight. The music is very loud if you are in the main building until 10:30 at times. The plugs are 220 my straightner wouldn’t turn on, but the tv if unplugged has a normal plug in . The beach awesome!!! Unfortunately the waves were strong and one day we couldn’t go in the water. Do not forget anything at home you will not find it in Varadero . Limited supplies everywhere. If you sit at the pool sit at the side by the bar as the smell of the lagoon is awful on the other side. Not a lot of people in the pool it just had a bad feeling when in it. I didn’t make it more than 15 min I tried. Bring lots of treats from home bring enough for every night . You will not find chips or chocolate anywhere . If you take the bus it’s $5 to get to and from Varadero but if it’s full it passes right by you. Taxi’s will pull up and offer you a ride for 10 but some will take 5 to get you there. If you go please leave tips they work hard we give 15% here to waiters and waitresses that don’t deserve it. They do they work long hours. Bring meds for the workers like Tylenol , tums, anything you can. Hope this helps

Staff look after you

Wonderful experience - the upgrade to the vip and ocean view was definitely worth it. The food was delicious - lots of variety and loved the beach barbecue. Special shout out to the kind staff who went beyond our expectations to keep us comfortable after a incident with another guest at the hotel.. The jeep tour was amazing and loved the Saturno caves. As always, the people of Cuba and their warm smiles and hospitality will have us coming back again. Thank you Melia ! Only disappointment was no Rum some days so pina colada with Spanish whiskey not the same.

Good Resort!

Just returned from our early April trip! Overall would stay at this resort again. Rooms were big & clean but outdated. Beds were comfy- a little chilly but once we found the bigger blanket it made for a better sleep. Walls are thin though so could hear our neighbour's more than we'd like. My only complaint for the room was the shower head was broken making a shower more difficult but there was always hot water. This is a big resort. Staff were friendly. Food - A bit repetitive but I always found something to eat, good variety. Supper was definitely better with more options vs breakfast. There was a omelet bar daily and bread so again, never left hungry Coffee at the lobby bar (especially the iced coffee) was DELICIOUS! The drinks were tasty, lots of variety and there was no noticeable alcohol shortages minus rum at some bars. The beach- very beautiful, there were some rocks and such but it was definitely cleaned as the sand quality improved after a day or 2. As for beach chairs, we did have to walk further some days to find, but always ended up finding some The pool- only visited it once but the water was warm and the pool was nice & big. The entertainment for me was top notch quality. The dancers and shows are incredible There are lots of activities on the resort but it takes a few days and lots of asking other people to learn, when/where/how to rent items. The hotel had a Canadian Cocktail party which we felt appreciated at and really enjoyed being welcomed and included. Lastly, my only other resort complaint would be it seems they may be under staffed as we had to wait in some long lines for bars and such, and the front desk were not the most helpful and helping us get Sunwing information and no one felt the need to mention there was a Sunwing representative there daily that could have saved us time and stress. Overall this was a good vacation, a nice resort, and although i would like to try other resorts, i would recommend and go back

We just spent an amazing week at Las Antillas. We upgraded to the 5th floor and had concierge services and Naidelys and Gretter made us feel like family and made sure we had everything our hearts desired. I would recommend the resort to everyone. Maribel at the Pool snackbar also provided the best service ever and she quickly became a friend. Raoul at the beach bar always had a smile and a drink ready for all.

Great hotel.

Wonderful hotel. The rooms are quite spacious and clean. The balcony gives you a very good view of the ocean, huge pool and well kept grounds. The staff are always very friendly, happy and helpful. The entertainment was great every night. The concierge service VIP was great. They took care of any problems we had right away, no hassles whatsoever. This is our second time at this hotel and we recommend it to anyone looking to have a relaxing fun time.
