Melia Varadero - The Level

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Varadero, Cuba Melia Varadero The Level I had the pleasure of spending 10 days at the Melia Varadero. I often scan these reviews for updates therefore I will be honest in my review and comments. We stayed at The Level again and you do get the benefits of this upgrade. The Level’s private bar/bistro is relaxing and always comfortable with ample seating. The staff are very attentive and professional. Every morning, I was greeted with a cappuccino and an array of sweets, cold cuts, and various cheeses. Not being a morning guy, I enjoyed two to three cups of cappuccino. It was always open at 7 am and very peaceful for those of us getting on in years. At lunch, a refreshing beer or glass of cava was readily available. For those who prefer mixed drinks those too were also available. Finger food was plentiful. On this visit we had the pleasure of having a formal breakfast in the restaurant reserved for the Level. Omelettes boiled or fried eggs, bacon, ham, yoghurt, cheeses were always on the menu. Lunch was also a pleasure with a glass of wine, soups, chicken salad and lobster or shrimp. The restaurant was quiet and a repose from the heat of the sun and salty air at the beach. We always worn proper shirts for both breakfast and lunch. The restaurant is reserved for the Level for breakfast and lunch and becomes open to all clientele for dinner as the Tex Mex restaurant. The staff at the Level are exceptional and work extremely hard. So many staff members to thank. Luisito at the Level Bistro always has a smile on his face and quite entertaining. I have known him for years since I started booking at the Melia Varadero. His wife is the evening pianist at the lobby level. Abraham (the tall chap) at the Level Bistro is very pleasant and always kept my wine glass topped up. I always provided him with Nutella chocolate bars for his son not that he expected them. The Level Reception staff are outstanding in their professionalism. We were greeted by Idania upon arrival after a three-hour flight from Toronto who had the porters take care of our luggage and showed us all the upgrades. Her attention to detail was amazing. The refreshing glass of cava upon arrival got the vacation off on the right foot. Orlaida ensured that we were comfortable and well-taken care off. A big thank you to these two ladies. So many other staff members. Mayara always with a smile on her face. In the past there was a seafood restaurant. One of the hurricanes ruined it and since then it has been dismantled and turned into an open-air entertainment area. A smaller lunchtime restaurant served lovely seafood but was open for lunch only. It has since reverted to being a paella restaurant at lunch and Cuban restaurant in the evening. Hotel management may wish to revisit having a seafood restaurant in the evening. The only negative comment I will make concerns the roped off reserved area at the beach for The Level. Level guests pay a premium for the upgrade. Clients who book the Level Suites have reserved cabanas at the beach and near the pool. Other Level guests have use of the palapas and chaise lounge chairs at the area reserved for The Level. Unfortunately, the beach staff did not enforce the rules and non-level guests ignored the posted signs and seated themselves in the chaise loungers under the palapas. One day a Level couple from Moncton could not find a chaise lounge under the palapas and returned to the pool. We took it upon ourselves to complain to the beach staff that they needed to enforce the rules and they immediately took corrective action. I also notified the Level Reception staff of the lack of proper invigilation, and she took immediate action. I trust that hotel management will make note of this and enforce the rules. It was not our responsibility to see that the rules were enforced. We tipped all the workers who appreciated the gratuities. There are other guests who choose not to tip. The majority of Canadians tip these workers for their hard work. Westjet- For anyone travelling on Westjet, the representative at the hotel in the morning is the Sunwing representative. Westjet did not make this clear to us. Arrival at the airport was utter chaos because we were looking for Westjet logo on the signs. Currency- It is very confusing. Everything is priced in US $ and most of the time vendors would convert to Canadian $ and occasionally the peso but not always. Ask before making a purchase. Take $1 US bills. If taking larger bills such as $20 US or Cdn ensure that the bills are in perfect condition with no tears or writing on them or they will not accept them at currency exchange.

Great hotel and Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Great hotel and atmosphere. Top service. Very friendly and diligent staff. Wonderful location and stunning look points from many areas of the hotel. The swimming pool requires a lift up, but all around a very recommendable hotel. "The Level" service will be always a very convenient add on...

Excellent Golf Family All-Inclusive Resort! April 2024 I am From Toronto. Canada it's my 4 year in the row that we stayed at the Iconic Melia Varadero. I am a golfer and I always travel with my family or other golfers with their families. The hotel is just 20 minutes away from the International airport Under 10 minutes walk to the Varadero Golf Course, Right next door to Plaza America Mall where you can delight in delicious Cuban cuisine. The hotel vibe and entertainment are Nonstop. You can enjoy everyday live local music, Piano player, Saxo or Violin. Every night there are always live performances. The hotel is extremely well clean and the housekeepers are the best. Always surprise you with cool art and decorations. The staff is super friendly and always ready to help or assist. The front desk team is phenomenal. super friendly, professional and fast Excellent buffet, always with plenty of options and I didn't find any shortages. There's a Mini Club at the hotel and the staff is very knowledgeable and professional. You can leave your kids at the kids club while you are playing golf or want to take a break from the kids. There are always kids' activities during the day and early in the evening! The Cuban Day Hotel experience is extremely very well organized Location. Decorations, Activities, Performers, live music and the Cuban menu. This is outstanding The Swimming Pool area is super clean, safe and great vibe. Always with good music. Uplifting mostly in the morning and Bachata during lunchtime! Afternoons are way more lively with a nice playlist and activities Beach Very clean, safe, beautiful beach bar and grill. there are always servers walking around taking your drink orders. Grilled beach bar with always amazing local Cuban music. Rooms If you are a golfer and traveling with your family I highly recommend you to book The Level Premium Ocean Views. This is a type of room category that is extremely spacious for your golf clubs and suitcases, with big balconies with ocean views and Golf Course Views as well. Best resort in Varadero

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We are experienced travelers. This was our second time to the Melia Varadero and this year, we booked the Level. It was an amazing vacation. The Level offers extras such as 24 hours room service, has its own snack/bar, they take care of making your A la carte resturant reservations, the staff is very attentive and can't do enough for you. We want to say a special thank you to our daytime maid Yusleidys and our night maid, Yanetsy for their very creative towel art. They are very talented and work hard to make sure everything is to your satisfaction. They definetely brought laughter to our days. We could not wait to get back to our rooms each day to see their towel creations. Also want to mention Yaneisy who is a server at the Buffet for her great service, she is a dedicated and hard worker. The resort is beautiful, spotless and amazing sunset views. Food was great, we always had a variety and were very satisfied. Being a level guest, we had option to eat breakfast and lunch at the Tex Mex restaurant. We sat outside and had breakfast there every morning by the ocean. The beach is spectacular. Would definetely recommend this resort. This resort has now become our home away from home. It is also close to the town of Varadero so you can hope on/hope off the double decker bus for $5/person. While in Varadero, we also took a horse and carriage ride for about 1 hour, they take you through the town. We can't wait to come back next year! Want to say thank you to all the staff at the Melia, it was a memorable vacation. Cormier and Lirette family
