Underwhelmed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed November 26, 2021

· Firstly the hotel lacks atmosphere light and decor but these have nothing to do with the fact the hotel is built on levels on elevated terrain and it is centuries old building. It is quite a sombre place with very poor lighting and exudes negative energy - positive energy comes from the top end of management and is obviously lacking this There is no leadership and you basically have three receptionists who do everything. There is a non Spanish manager who oversees the property for a Miami based owner but the brief moment we saw her on our first day when she seemed detached form her surroundings and unengaging on our she was not to be seen in hands on way.The receptionists had to prepare the pultry breakfasts as well and apart from cleaning staff there was no porter with many steps to negotiate As the hotel is inaccessible by taxi there is a walk on cobbled stones with suitcases. We were offered a free taxi from the parking so did not expect to have to pay directly the taxi driver and then not get reimbursed from our deposit or paid in cash The terraced roof has a panoramic view of countryside but not the ocean and is very exposed to the winds We were offered an upgrade but realised it was because our room booked months before had an extended stay.We refused as it was ground floor poorly lit with the bed in a recess with no space .The room we were given was outside the main building was poorly lit with totally impractical furniture no coffeee machine or safe and poor quality toiletries In addition if you want a massage they charge an outrageous €105 and you have to negotiate 40 steps up and down in what was a well to an unventilated enclosed dark cave space. This place is not for the physically challenged The last night we were there I just checked their room prices and they wanted a non refundable €350 without breakfast for an exclusive deluxe double room with balcony - outrageous We paid over €200 without breakfast. There are far better places to stay

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Vejer

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed September 18, 2020

This hotel definitely has a wow factor! We stayed here for two nights. It was going to be 1 night but we liked Vejer and this hotel so much we added another night to the trip. The location is excellent - right in the old historic centre. However, do heed the advice about parking. We parked close to the Plaza Espana (La Corredura?) and walked up to the hotel but even then Google maps took us a long way around. Once we arrived at the hotel we had the added surprise of receiving a upgrade to a Superior Room (No.4). This room was very spacious and full of character. It may be offputting to some to have the bath and shower right in the bedroom but it added to the quirkiness of the place. There is no TV in the rooms (no problem - it's nice to escape from it anyway) but the bed is huge and a bottle of fresh drinking water was delivered to us each night. There are honesty bars stocked with beer, wine and soft drinks - both in the downside courtyard and the terrace. The terrace is fantastic with amazing views of the countryside and the town and plenty of comfortable seats to just sit and chill out. Overall it was a great short stay in a lovely old town and we would definitely recommend this hotel

Piece and quiet in the middle of Vejer

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed November 23, 2019

This boutique hotel is ideally located in the middle of one of the prettiest white villages in Andalusia. The roof terrace boasts amazing views of Vejer and surrounding areas. The building has been tastefully restored to a high standard. Breakfast is tasty and served in the quirky courtyard. A word of warning: DO NOT attempt to reach the hotel by car -as we did- but leave it in one of the public parkings at the entrance of the old city !

Top-of the-World Tranquility

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed October 5, 2019

In late summer, the small roof terrace provides a magnificent escape from the world and provides views across Vejer, the surrounding area and down to the ocean. Albeit the overnight dew leaves the sunbeds damp throughout the day. The service is calmly in the background, largely we were left to our own devices including 2 honesty bars. We didn’t take breakfast in the small courtyard covered with a tree canopy, preferring to take a 5 minute stroll. We chose room 11, the one with the private balcony - the incremental cost was worth it, albeit the communal roof terrace was rarely populated with other guests and it had a greater exposure to the late summer sun and sunset. The room was pleasant although the lighting a little too low, even for my tastes. The toilet seat could do with replacing, with better light the staff would see why - but don’t let that distract from a fabulous place and a wonderful stay. The wardrobe was thoughtfully and artistically created in a nook and gave us plenty of storage space and hangers - too often not the case. The honesty bars would have benefitted from more attention - e.g. replacing melt water with fresh ice and replacing missing drinks - no gin and no beers on the roof terrace for the duration of our stay. The deck chairs in the courtyard and on our terrace were comfortable to lie back in but impossible to reconfigure in to anything more upright. I’d not hesitate to return here or recommend to others, albeit its joys come at a premium price.
