Ca' Sagredo Hotel in Venice, Italy

On the edge of the Grand Canal, five-star Ca' Sagredo Hotel holds the legacy of one of the most prominent noble families in Venice. The Sagredos bought the palace in the middle of the 17th Century and assembled an art collection of more than 800 paintings and 2,000 drawings dating from the Renaissance. Original art and antiques envelop guests during a stay that's more akin to time travel than a holiday. Upgrade to a suite for even plusher surroundings – the towering wardrobes in the Library Suite used to house Zaccaria Sagredo's literary collection.

Run your hands over the gold leafing on the edges of your royal bed as you wake up and stretch. Eschew the crowded museums in Venice and descend the hotel’s grand staircase instead. Get absorbed in masterpieces by Nicolò Bambini, Giambattista Piepolo and Sebastiano Ricci. Listen to the faraway notes of a piano player in the salon. Dine on fresh row fish from the Rialto market while watching gondolas navigate the Grand Canal.

A magical arrival by water taxi from the airport began a dreamy three days in Venice- my first visit, and the wonder of it all slowly enveloped me. Ca Sagredo is a former palace and its grand marble staircase and magnificent ceilings and furnishings leave you in no doubt that you are in Venice. Somehow though, the intimate breakfast room and friendly service make you feel at home. The location is perfect - an easy walk to all the 'must see' spots and also close to the quiet back lanes populated by locals who somehow manage to negotiate the tourists. And of course on the canal so vaporettos and gondolas and tragettos are all at hand. Worth the money.

My wife and I spent three nights at the Ca' Sagredo at the conclusion of our summer Italian trip. This place embodies the elegance and refinement of the city of Venice. Yet, it feels like a home thanks largely to the very professional and kind staff. The terrace along the Grand Canal as well as the top floor patio with a view over the whole city are stunning. Hop on a boat a few feet from the reception desk to visit Murano. Stunning dining and ball rooms. Ideal central location while protected from flocks of tourists who do not venture in the lobby. A very special place reminiscent of 20th century European elegance.

We didn't stay at this hotel but we just had to see this statue. So I guess it waorks at drawing your attention. (Hey we're tourists) It's very cool. We saw it on the gondola ride and made it a priority to go by and see the 2 hands rising up out of the canal. Goo pic opp.

The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are gorgeous especially if you like the baroque atmosphere. Very luxurious and member. Most importantly the hotel is situated in a great location, right on the grand Canal and close to water taxis, gondolas and all the science of Venice.

A beautiful and romantic hotel with high class service. I've added photos from our room balcony on the 4th floor. The breakfast is served in a gorgeous room right next to a ball-room with amazing Italian music CD selection playing
