Ca' Sagredo Hotel in Venice, Italy

On the edge of the Grand Canal, five-star Ca' Sagredo Hotel holds the legacy of one of the most prominent noble families in Venice. The Sagredos bought the palace in the middle of the 17th Century and assembled an art collection of more than 800 paintings and 2,000 drawings dating from the Renaissance. Original art and antiques envelop guests during a stay that's more akin to time travel than a holiday. Upgrade to a suite for even plusher surroundings – the towering wardrobes in the Library Suite used to house Zaccaria Sagredo's literary collection.

Run your hands over the gold leafing on the edges of your royal bed as you wake up and stretch. Eschew the crowded museums in Venice and descend the hotel’s grand staircase instead. Get absorbed in masterpieces by Nicolò Bambini, Giambattista Piepolo and Sebastiano Ricci. Listen to the faraway notes of a piano player in the salon. Dine on fresh row fish from the Rialto market while watching gondolas navigate the Grand Canal.

This hotel is stunning in so many respects. You would struggle to find a hotel that is more beautiful. Our room was very spacious with all of the facilities you could possibly need. Despite the grandeur the staff are friendly and very knowledegable. A special mention to Michele who could not have been more helpful in suggesting some fabulous restaurants for us to visit. The location of the hotel is perfect. If you want to walk to St Mark's Square it is about 20 minutes away or you can get the water bus which is literally outside the hotel. Only two minor gripes - the breakfast was described as "full" and a gesture is made in this regard but really it is a very good continental. The free wifi is awful. If this matters to you then this hotel might not be a good choice. Having said that I would definitely come back to Ca'Sagredo, it truly is a very special hotel.

stayed for 5 nights late Feb early March. just caught the end of the Carnevale. Really well situated, opposite and a 1 minute 2 euro boar ride from Rialto market. 15 mins walk to San Marco. Lovely part of Venice and plenty of bars and restaurants within 5 mins walk. Second time in Venice and you couldn't do better than stay here.
