Ca' Sagredo Hotel in Venice, Italy

On the edge of the Grand Canal, five-star Ca' Sagredo Hotel holds the legacy of one of the most prominent noble families in Venice. The Sagredos bought the palace in the middle of the 17th Century and assembled an art collection of more than 800 paintings and 2,000 drawings dating from the Renaissance. Original art and antiques envelop guests during a stay that's more akin to time travel than a holiday. Upgrade to a suite for even plusher surroundings – the towering wardrobes in the Library Suite used to house Zaccaria Sagredo's literary collection.

Run your hands over the gold leafing on the edges of your royal bed as you wake up and stretch. Eschew the crowded museums in Venice and descend the hotel’s grand staircase instead. Get absorbed in masterpieces by Nicolò Bambini, Giambattista Piepolo and Sebastiano Ricci. Listen to the faraway notes of a piano player in the salon. Dine on fresh row fish from the Rialto market while watching gondolas navigate the Grand Canal.

This perfect hotel is situated on the grand canal next to the public transport boats and gondolas, the accomodation was very opulent! And special, we had a suite which included our own stair way to a private roof terrace where we sat for ages watching the comings and goings on the canal fascinating ! The bathroom was all marble ,and bed very comfortable ,breakfast was served the the most ornate setting ! Murals on walls and ceilings, staff were so friendly and helpful nothing to much trouble

This was one of my favorite places I have ever stayed. The hotel is a work of art. The room was beautiful with view of the canal and the breakfast with classical music playing surrounded by art murals on the walls was like being in heaven. If you are looking for the ultimate romantic place to stay in Venice, this should be your first choice. I will definitely go back there someday.

Our stay at Ca'Sagredo was amazing. It was my birthday and also our anniversary, and we had just finished a ten day cruise throughout the Adriatic and the Med and had two nights to stay in Venice upon our return. What we were seeking was peace, elegance, refinement and we received all of the above. The hotel is a museum in itself. We were greeted very warmly by the front desk who most graciously upgraded our room (for my bday) to a most amazing suite with the most beautiful ceilings and details I have ever seen in a bedroom! Room 316 is the room and I highly recommend. The great thing about the hotel as well as with all of the old world charm, they have the modern conveniences which I like- wonderful rain shower, dual sinks, robes, slippers, a/c etc. The roof top is not to be missed for a drink and snack to watch the sunset over the beautiful tiled roofs of the city. The breakfast is lovely and again, very upscale and serene. The staff as well greet you with such warmth and hospitality as if you truly are welcome there and part of a family. I shall return and thank you again to all the crew who made our stay above and beyond. Thank you again! x

What a beautiful hotel! Old palace turned in to hotel. Lots of art and marble. Rooms are very spacious. Could use some updates like USB outlets. Restaurant on the Grand Canal. What a view! Great location.

I have seen a number of disparaging comments about the rooms and the decor of Ca Sagredo but I think they really miss the point. This hotel was built as a palace and is now a living museum. It is a privilege to be there surrounded by Renaissance furniture, old master paintings and the most incredible fresco's and trompe-l'Å“il. We first saw the hotel from across the Grand Canal when visiting the fish market and it looked amazing. Wandering around its fine rooms was awe-inspiring. Our bedroom was in keeping with the rest of the hotel - shabby chic at its very best - but the fabric-covered walls are not always completely soundproof! The breakfast rooms are gorgeous and the food very good. The smartly dressed ladies who attend your table are charming, warm and friendly. A Mimosa (Buck's Fizz) is always a nice way to start the day and the sound of opera arias wafting from the nearby salon stirred the emotions. There is a charming roof-top terrace and bar (evenings only) with a stunning vista of the Grand Canal. Also a lovely dining terrace at canal level. We chose not to eat in the hotel, however, the concierge gave us some very good recommendations for eating out (see Vecia Cavana restaurant).
