A Garden Oasis in Venice

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Beautiful hotel set away from the crowds in a quiet area. It was super easy to walk to attractions or use the hotel shuttle which ran a couple times per day (8 euro pp/one way) which dropped us off at St.Marks area or taking the public transport which picked up just minutes from the hotel at the Orto stop. The great— beautiful grounds, lush gardens with gorgeous flowers in bloom, quaint lobby, nice European style breakfast assortment each day, housekeeping everyday with an evening check in to ensure we had enough towels or necessities, friendly and helpful staff who greeted us every time we crossed their path, lovely ambiance, and really a great feeling of hospitality and security. The not as good— Room had a dampness and slight musty smell which we got used to, there were moisture spots on the wall, but honestly it’s Venice I don’t know if this is avoidable and didn’t bother us too much. The things I didn’t love was the bedding which was somewhat tired looking and feeling, I’m a linen snob and prefer a crisp, cool sheet and duvet and these were more of a soft synthetic feel and left us sweating most nights despite the air running. Also, because our room was set away in the lovely garden and this is a very old place we encountered many tiny spiders that would pop up. They wear easily killed but I’m sure there were more we didn’t see, again I’m sure this is somewhat unavoidable but it is worth noting. Overall, I would not hesitate to stay here again but would love to have the linens upgraded to something a little more cooling and the spider presence reduced but again, great experience truly.

Wonderful, peaceful hotel in a good location.

The hotel is in a peaceful part of Venice, close to Murano Island. The decor and staff are superb, and it has a lovely garden at the rear which is a haven of peace in a bustling city. The food is good, but the prices are a little high (almost twice the price of Trieste, where we also stayed). The hotel offers a speedboat service to San Marco, which is fairly priced and very good. However, Venice has long since been a reasonably priced location if you want good things.

Favorite Hotel

The hotel is located in our favorite part of Venice. Away from the tourists. It feels very genuine local Venetian. Quiet. The staff is top notch. Fabio and Beatrix are wonderful at scheduling anything from tours to water taxis. They know the city extremely well.

A nice hotel in Venice

We stayed for two nights in April. The lobby was lovely and the staff very helpful. Our room provided the best bathroom of our two weeks in Europe- large and a lovely shower! The room was spacious enough for my sister and I, and had coffee (a must for me!). The big negative - the AC was not on and the room was stifling! We asked for a fan - our other companions received a normal fan but we were provided a small fan that did not put out any air. It seriously would not even flutter a Kleenex held in front of it. We thought maybe we just didn’t understand how to use it (it was an odd industrial sort of fan - small and heavy). But they sent someone up and he acted like we were dumb to think this fan wasn’t really working. When we asked for another option they didn’t have any. I even asked if there was somewhere I could buy a fan and the answer was basically-not anywhere close. We were told that “by law the AC cannot be turned on until end of April or early May”. However the next day we heard another guest complaining and they were being told AC would be on the next day (April 16). Had we had a normal fan (or AC) I’d rate this hotel better. We did open windows which helped at night but it was fairly buggy so we didn’t want to leave them wide open for long. I’d say location was fine - a bit of a walk to the more touristy area but that was fine for us. Also about a half mile from train and over 5 bridges. If you’ve got big suitcases I’d hire a porter at the station. Breakfast was wonderful and I was thrilled to be able to order soft boiled eggs.

Oh my goodness I don’t know where to start with our review! This hotel is absolutely top notch from the beautiful hotel itself to the incredible “largest” garden in Venice! The incredible staff made our stay exceptional and I want to give the biggest compliments to Fabio, Phillip, Hague, Edo, Bane and George! Super fun employees and we will definitely stay here again the next time we visit the beautiful city of Venice! Lynn and Micah
