Splendid Venice in Venice, Italy

Floating gondolas, the chime of ancient church bells, and romantic piazzas make Venice such a treasured Italian destination. Splendid Venice, part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and a member of the Preferred Hotel Group, was built during the 16th century. Located between St. Mark's Square and the landmark Rialto Bridge, this historic hideaway features 165 guestrooms. The hotel has been completely refurbished, maintaining a traditional Venetian presence coupled with contemporary appointments. Walls are cloaked in pearl gray with hand-painted wisteria accents. Lush velvets and cool silk textiles, which cover headboards and furnishings, add a most luxurious touch. The hotel's private docks jut out into the canals, allowing guests to disembark from gondolas and water taxis with ease.

As if stepping into the pages of a Hemingway novel, a stay at Splendid Venice feels like a work of art. The hotel's signature restaurant Le Maschere features a sophisticated menu of traditional Venetian dishes and million-dollar views of the canal. Ambient lighting filters from beneath red silk chandeliers at The Bar, which features sexy black lacquered furnishings and bolts of rich fabric. Indulge in red wine from neighboring Tuscany or a martini served straight up at this hip location. Sheltered by a glass roof, the hotel's courtyard is perfect year-round enjoyment. Step beyond the hotel doors and discover all that Venice embodies: the gondola museum where the same family has hand-crafted vessels for centuries, the gelaterias featuring homemade gelato, and the wine shops stocked with shelves of Italy's finest vintages.

I stayed with my mum here for 4 nights in a twin room, which was a very pretty room and the decor was beautiful! We opted to have breakfast included, which was a quite varied buffet. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and the location of this hotel was perfect, right by Rialto and San Marco, useful for accessibility to the water bus stops.

A very late booking for our 28th Wedding Anniversary saw us book this trip on Saturday evening, and fly out during the early hours only two days later on the Monday. We had a 7am flight departure an hour or so from home, and arrived at the hotel around noon, but our room was already available despite normal check in time being advertised from 2pm onwards. We were quickly checked in, and informed that as it was our wedding anniversary (our travel booking company had passed this information onto the hotel) we’d been upgraded from our pre-booked Superior room to a larger Deluxe room, and to top it off on arrival in our room we discovered that this looked out over the small canal to the side of the hotel too – room 353. The room was a good size, with plenty of storage/drawers/hanging space (with hangers provided!), two comfy chairs and a large foot stool at the bottom of the bed. There was a spacious bathroom; it had a toilet and bidet, a single sink in a marble worktop with plenty of counter space, and a bath with a shower over it. The shower end of the bath had a glass splash screen, which I far prefer to a “clingy curtain”. We had a generous selection of fluffy bath and hand towels that were often replaced several times each day, and our upgraded room also came with complimentary bath robes and slippers. To the other side of the entrance lobby area was the wardrobe, leading into the sitting area and the bed itself. The sitting area was plenty big enough for two people, and had both a kettle (with various tea and coffee options provided) and a well-stocked minibar fridge containing a mixture of water, soft drinks and alcoholic beverages (chargeable). We were given complimentary still water twice each day, morning and evening. The bed was a full double (5ft) and was very comfortable, with high quality bed linen and a pillow menu with both fibre and feather options available. The room had air conditioning, and at the two lower fan settings for this could be left on almost inaudibly overnight. In our room the vents fed directly into the bed area, so kept us comfortable (at 22C, our chosen setting) as we slept. The central dining room at the hotel has a glass roof that retracts, so several mornings we had a clear view of the blue sky above us whilst eating breakfast, until around 9:30am, before the heat of the day began to arrive and the roof was closed and the air-con turned on. There are several seating areas for guests on the ground floor, some with floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the canal that passes the front of the hotel, whilst on the top floor there is a sun terrace that has loungers for those wishing to relax and top up their tan during the day, and tables and chairs with another bar area in the evenings. You can hear the numerous church bells and look out across the rooftops of Venice. Hearing the various church bells ring out from here is very atmospheric at any time of the day, and will be a significant personal memory of my stay here. The location of this hotel really could not be any better in my wife and I’s opinion, as it is central and pretty much equidistant to many of the attractions, all less than 500m away. Many of the pick-up points for day trips and tours are similarly located nearby within only a few minutes’ walk, and the hotel concierge and reception will book these trips and walks for you on request. The staff we met all spoke excellent English, and were all very friendly and helpful with any questions or requests we had. The staff working at the Splendid are a credit to the establishment and made our stay very special thank you. If you want a quality hotel in the centre of Venice, a real oasis of calm away from the hustle and bustle just outside the front door (especially in mid-August during the peak holiday period), we’d be happy to recommend the Splendid and all it has to offer.

Located in between the Rialto bridge and San Marco square we were absolutely delighted with our stay at Hotel Splendid in Venice. Clean and modern room with a view of the canal below. Breakfast was excellent with a variety to choose from. We had lunch and dinner in the hotel. Delicious food at both times of the day with great service. Reception staff were professional and courteous. I couldn't recommend this wonderful hotel more.

I want to Thank all reviews on this hotel. Everyone was right it is perfect location and walking distance to shops, restaurants and major tourist sites. I was very satisfied with room although the air-conditioning was poor. But it didn't effect my trip. It is tricky walking around the area and you can easily get lost. But if you ask anyone in shops they were very helpful. Rooftop bar was excellent to just sit and relax. Very satisfied and I would stay here again.
