Splendid Venice in Venice, Italy

Floating gondolas, the chime of ancient church bells, and romantic piazzas make Venice such a treasured Italian destination. Splendid Venice, part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts and a member of the Preferred Hotel Group, was built during the 16th century. Located between St. Mark's Square and the landmark Rialto Bridge, this historic hideaway features 165 guestrooms. The hotel has been completely refurbished, maintaining a traditional Venetian presence coupled with contemporary appointments. Walls are cloaked in pearl gray with hand-painted wisteria accents. Lush velvets and cool silk textiles, which cover headboards and furnishings, add a most luxurious touch. The hotel's private docks jut out into the canals, allowing guests to disembark from gondolas and water taxis with ease.

As if stepping into the pages of a Hemingway novel, a stay at Splendid Venice feels like a work of art. The hotel's signature restaurant Le Maschere features a sophisticated menu of traditional Venetian dishes and million-dollar views of the canal. Ambient lighting filters from beneath red silk chandeliers at The Bar, which features sexy black lacquered furnishings and bolts of rich fabric. Indulge in red wine from neighboring Tuscany or a martini served straight up at this hip location. Sheltered by a glass roof, the hotel's courtyard is perfect year-round enjoyment. Step beyond the hotel doors and discover all that Venice embodies: the gondola museum where the same family has hand-crafted vessels for centuries, the gelaterias featuring homemade gelato, and the wine shops stocked with shelves of Italy's finest vintages.

This was the last hotel we stayed whilst touring Italy on our honeymoon. It is very centrally located to all the attractions. Because we were on our honeymoon they kindly upgraded our room (thank you). Our room was large (Venetian style) and actually quite cold (October). The whole hotel is immaculate and very clean. The breakfast is continental style with a large amount to choose from (scrambled eggs, bacon, pastries, fruit, cereal, cakes etc. etc.) The one thing I do hate about big hotels is the turn down service (pointless) and the porter insisting on taking your bags to your room (and then hanging around for a tip!) - I can do this myself for free and do not like awkwardness it creates. However that's me and you may want this. The hotel did feel a bit too corporate however good breakfast, clean and within easy reach of everything (if you can get passed the crowds!).

I've read all of the most recent reviews. The positive ones are all accurate and a couple of negatives, are definitely isolated cases. EXTREMELY friendly staff, concierge and even the housekeepers are awesome. Join their program and save on the room rate. Breakfast staff is awesome, I even posted on Twitter how great they are. Breakfast buffet was more than enough, great selections, and variety. Coffee is very hot and Michael did a great latte for my mother and me. We booked Deluxe rooms and were upgraded due to my loyalty with Starhotels. Have to tell you I LOVE this property, and plan to bring my wife back soon too.

The room we had was lovely, overlooking the canal, and we loved watching the gondolas on their journey along the canals. The hotel is in a really beautiful area with some very picturesque bridges nearby. The staff were so friendly and helpful and they made it an extremely enjoyable and comfortable stay. The bar was a very comfortable place to sit for a cocktail or coffee and the meal we had in the restaurant was delicious and served by such efficient and informative people making us feel like very important guests. We would like to thank the really helpful young man on the concierge desk for his help in arranging our return water taxi and car to the airport.

Its a bit of a hassle getting anywhere in Venice with rolling luggage so take the train to the main station and then rent a motor boat to go to the hotel. Yes, its $100 but you're in Venice. Room was smallish but serviceable (counter 11 corners in the room and attached passageway) for Venice. Bathroom surprisingly spacious. Breakfast was not included but not an issue as nicer to have breakfast on St. Mark's square in any case. Not cheap at over $500 a night but well located.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and had such a pleasant stay in Venice. The hotel was so well located and felt <5 minute walk to everything. It is located on one of the smaller (and quieter) canals somewhat away from pedestrian traffic which crosses a bridge 30 seconds away from the hotel. Being on the canal it makes it very easy to get water taxi’s so no lugging around your luggage once you arrive on land. In regard to the hotel, it is a very large property with a beautifully designed lobby. The rooms are luxurious (we were gratefully offered an upgrade) spacious and the beds are very comfortable. The design is definitely very modern and the room comes with many accessories including USB ports for chargers. The hotel staff were all very pleasant and our room was cleaned promptly every day when we went down for breakfast – talk about service! I would highly recommend staying here for your stay in Venice. It was perfect! To see more photos of Spendid Venice, I have some additional photos on my Instagram blog @luxe_tourista
