Grand Hotel Majestic in Verbania, Italy

Dating back to 1870, the Grand Hotel Majestic dreamily evokes the spirit of la belle epoque. This member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World was a favorite with crowned heads of state and musicians such as Debussy and Toscanini, and today a lovingly carried out renovation returns it to its original glory. Beautifully situated on a promontory that juts into Italy's Lake Maggiore, it boasts classically styled bedrooms and suites, many with balconies and most with views of the water.

From English-style gardens to sweeping alpine views, you will feel as if you are living inside a dream. You might relax on the intimate, private beach, or take a private boat to discover the charms of the Borromean Islands—the 17th-century gardens of Isola Bella, the fishing village of Isola Superiore and the unspoiled natural beauty of Isola Madre. The setting for Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms, Stresa is a wonderful place to linger before returning to indulge at the hotel's Beauty and Wellness Centre, La Beola restaurant, and Il Toscanini bar.

Just back after a fantastic week at this grand old hotel. We normally self cater and mooch around in shorts, t shirts and flip flops. Although there is no dress code here we would recommend something smart if you eat dinner there. Otherwise you feel you have been transported back to the 1930s with the decor and the old style service. The views from the rooms and garden are sublime. There are great reasonably priced restaurants within 5 minutes walk and it's only 10 minutes to the public ferry from where you can visit every place of interest including the 3 islands. Thoroughly recommended

I had a three night stay at the Majestic for work. It`s definitely I would like to go back to as a tourist. The hotel itself is really majestic, its very clear when you enter the lobby and it`s open in the middle all floors up to the roof. The rooms are very nice. There is also a pool and spa, but I did not have time to try that out. Maybe the best of the whole hotel experience is the garden and location on the lake shore. Stunning!

This will be our third stay at this hotel that is how good we think it is. It is classy quiet beautiful position overlooking the lake. Plenty of eating places a short easy walk into the town. Also there is easy access to the boats that go to Stressa and the Islands. Breakfast is lovelley served overlooking the Lake. We found the staff helpfull and caring. We most enjoy sitting in the gardens .A real peacefull get away.

Seven nights of comfort at the beautiful Lake Maggiore. Hotel placed just out of town on the lakeside. Easy walking into town. Lovely room overlooking the lake. Every member of staff (housekeeping, bar, restaurant , reception) that we met were courteous and helpful which made our visit so enjoyable. Advice of places to visit and where to eat was invaluable. As suggested, we did take a superb lunch at Osteria AL BO EUC in Orta. Reception personnel were charming and helpful, particularly Favianna (I hope that I have her name correctly) who helped us with a problem when ‘checking in’ our flight on line.

Stylish, elegant hotel. Not ostentatious but beautifully decorated and in a wonderful location overlooking Lake Maggiore. Delightfully helpful staff who are both friendly and efficient. A short walk to the town with good restaurants and local ferries.
