The Grand Hotel Majestic is a beautiful hotel, situated directly on the lake with stunning views of the islands and mountains. The restaurant was very nice, with dining on the veranda overlooking the lake. The food was delicious and they were accommodating for ordering a pasta course not on the menu. The wine list was the right size not overwhelming and the prices were reasonable. The best part of our meals was the maître d', he was very engaging and went beyond the ensure your dining experience. We would definitely stay here again while vacationing in the area.

Great location, comfortable room with old fashioned tv and only two English speaking channels CNN and BBC rolling news only. We chose a lake view room with balcony giving stunning views of the lake. The best times being early morning and sunset. Shortly prior to our departure to Italy we were advised of changes to the half board arrangements we had previously agreed to. The hotel changed a la carte to fixed with at least a choice of three options on each of the three courses. We agreed to this change, but wished we had declined and gone B & B. The breakfast was the usual buffet items. I made the error of choosing porridge three mornings. A small bowl of warm porridge arrived, yours for Euros 9 EXTRA. The dinner menu was very restrictive, it was a matter of choosing the least worst main course. Contrary to what only one dessert on offer each evening. Although one member of staff did mention one night we could choose a dessert from the other menu if we wanted to. One night the dessert was shown as crème brulee which I chose. On its arrival I could not get a spoon or fork to penetrate it. I turned it over and tried again eventually it shattered into several pieces on the plate. It then I discovered it was frozen sold with ice crystals around it. I spoke to a waitress who advised me it was "frozen yogurt" I repeated what I had requested and that I could not eat this item whatever it was. She walked off and left me with it without another word. I stopped another member of staff who repeated what the previous lady had said. The offending item was taken way. I should point out stat at this stage darkness had fallen and we were eating outside with limited illumination. Another night fried fish with mayonnaise and curry powder was the best we could choose from the limited menu. We asked was it possible to have the fish with something else. the man in the suit said we had two choices we had two choices, with mayonnaise and curry powder or without. We would concur with other comments made regarding some staff and their lack of warmth towards guests. Top tip, go B & B there is plenty of choice 10 minutes walk away in the centre with eateries galore. We have previously stayed on Lake Como in a similar hotel and the food and service was far superior to this hotel.

I have visited Italy many times in the past and have, without exception, loved it finding the people warm, the hotels proud, and the locals welcoming. Then I visited the Grand Hotel Majestic in Pallanza! This was quite simply the worst hotel and worst holiday I have ever experienced. It was also the most expensive- by a long, long way. I expected absolute luxury for what I was paying or at least accommodating helpful staff. Whilst there were some staff-countable on one hand-who tried to be helpful the rest were either lazy, dismissive, or downright rude. One particular receptionist was extremely unpleasant making us feel that everything was a chore and failing to even greet us when we were standing in front of her. Rather than try and cover everything in prose, as quite simply there is far too much to cover, I shall outline key complaints in list form for ease of reading (first point the only long one, I promise!): 1. The hotel was completely inaccessible for disabled guests. My father has severely limited mobility and rides a scooter - we went to great lengths to ensure the hotel was accessible before booking-we were assured wholeheartedly that it was. It was as far from accessible as it could possibly have been. As the guest who left a previous review said the ramp, which was at the end of the hotel frontage, was far too steep and my father was unable to navigate it. Even I was too scared to try and had to guide it up and down daily for him on foot-a hair-raising experience. He had to try and drag himself up the stairs-only one member of staff ever attempted to help and only a couple opened the side door for me often leaving my 79 year old mother to manage both my dad and the door opening herself. In order to get to breakfast he had to ride through the kitchens and in order to get outside into the sun area he had to drive around the hotel and down another steep path. There were next to no handrails around the hotel yet stairs everywhere. This hotel is not disability friendly so do not believe them when they say they are. Their attitude is ‘we have lots of disabled guests who are all happy’-well, we weren’t and neither were the other disabled guests we met who had also been falsely assured of accessibility when booking. 2. The service was beyond lethargic. With the exception of a couple of staff who tried to be helpful the general attitude was that guests were tolerated and that staff were doing the bare minimum their job required and no more. Most queries were met with defensive, argumentative, and negative responses and on more than one occasion we had to repeat our requests to get anything done. It was also clear that smiling was not part of their job description. 3. As we were paying approximately £2000 each for our holiday we expected to at least have a bath robe each. My room had none and my parents had one to share between them. Similarly they were given one bath towel upon arrival. 4. Over a 14 day holiday my bathroom toiletries were not replaced once! Not once! I had to ask for a replacement and even then was given the wrong thing. Nor was there any complimentary water in the bedroom and for anything you ordered from the (outrageously overpriced) bar you will have an extra 2 euros added to your bill for ‘service’. 5. My room was described as overlooking gardens. I agreed not to have a lake view room on the understanding I would be looking over beautiful gardens. What they failed to disclose was that I was in fact overlooking the main road and car park and the gardens were in fact those of the house over the road. 6. The wi-fi was indescribably bad! It could only be accessed by a code given by reception. This in itself would not have been a problem had it not been for the fact that it disconnected pretty much on an hourly basis and the code had to be changed at least ten times during the course of our stay! 7. There was only one lift in which my dad’s scooter could fit and it became dangerous if we tried to get in with him as it could not bear the weight (please note I am a size 8 and my mother a size 10-the weight issue was not due to us!) 8. The balconies were barely big enough to sit on-the hotel had been informed we needed a balcony big enough for my dad to sit on due to the fact their outdoor area was inaccessible and he spent most days stuck in the bedroom. They failed to accommodate this too. 9. The hotel was not luxurious in any shape or form. There were scuff marks over the bedroom walls, lights did not work and cords were frayed, bulbs were missing from the lights, there were many occasions when there was no manager on site and there was a general lack of care and attention to hotel upkeep, not to say a complete lack of pride or desire to please guests. 10. The swimming pool was absolutely terrible. We were informed that it was an indoor pool but that it led on to the sunbathing area (so would be light) and that one could swim easily in the lake. The lake was on a lower level which felt a little unsafe as no one could see you if you went down to it and it was difficult to get into due to slippery rocks. The pool was dark, dismal, and far too small. It felt crowded if more than three people tried to swim. 11. This, however, was barely an issue as, despite being touted as a spa hotel where guests could relax, virtually every day we had to tolerate a group of screaming children who were in some way connected with the owner, taking over the swimming pool- screaming, splashing, jumping, and even taking a lilo in, and running around the sunbathing area disturbing other guests. Upon complaining we were offered a free drink-but no apology and no attempt to stop the behaviour on subsequent days. As a final insult we have since received a hotel response to the poor feedback we submitted to Classic Collection upon our return. Not only have they failed to acknowledge or apologise for any of our issues but they have instead chosen to attack us-saying that we were difficult and would have problems anywhere-something that is quite simply untrue and unprofessional of them to state. We have had fabulous holidays elsewhere and have enjoyed good relationships, and maintained contact, with many of the hotel staff we have met and have been both welcomed and encouraged to come back for return visits. The very fact I have taken the time to write all this indicates the level of dissatisfaction we feel about this particular hotel. They additionally made a slanderous claim that I was saying the people over the road were peeking at me. Their attitude and response reflects far more tellingly on them than it does on us and I urge you to avoid this hotel at all costs!

Our room was very comfy and the location is wonderful with magnificent views of the lake and surrounds. Quite nice terrace bar and pool lawn areas. Very very expensive gin & tonics and an officious breakfast waiter were our only concerns. Close walk to town for dining options etc and felt very safe walking at night.

We've stayed here several times in the past, and have enjoyed the wonderful location, grand spaces, elegant rooms, excellent food, and attentive service. The location and the spaces are as ever, but the level of service, cuisine, and attentiveness have slipped several notches since our last visit. Breakfast, which used to be excellent, has become a very ordinary buffet, complete with cold eggs and soggy bacon (the cold food is fine). We dined once, and what we had was quite ordinary (and quite expensive). Our room was elegant (a suite on two levels), but without ventilation on the upper (bedroom) level. The hotel had turned off the air conditioning for the season (even though daytime temperatures were in the high 20s), and were unable to provide even a fan until the last day, so sleeping was uncomfortable. The bathroom was beautiful, but the overhead shower barely worked and was not repaired during our time there despite our making the problems known. The staff at the front desk, who used to be flawless, were inconsistent in their attentiveness, effectiveness, and willingness to help. The management, when we finally reached them, did their best — but who wants to deal with hotel management on a vacation? A hotel of this grandeur and style (not to mention price level) should do better.
