Grand Hotel Majestic in Verbania, Italy
Dating back to 1870, the Grand Hotel Majestic dreamily evokes the spirit of la belle epoque. This member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World was a favorite with crowned heads of state and musicians such as Debussy and Toscanini, and today a lovingly carried out renovation returns it to its original glory. Beautifully situated on a promontory that juts into Italy's Lake Maggiore, it boasts classically styled bedrooms and suites, many with balconies and most with views of the water.
From English-style gardens to sweeping alpine views, you will feel as if you are living inside a dream. You might relax on the intimate, private beach, or take a private boat to discover the charms of the Borromean Islands—the 17th-century gardens of Isola Bella, the fishing village of Isola Superiore and the unspoiled natural beauty of Isola Madre. The setting for Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms, Stresa is a wonderful place to linger before returning to indulge at the hotel's Beauty and Wellness Centre, La Beola restaurant, and Il Toscanini bar.

Reviews for Grand Hotel Majestic
A really grand old hotel located 5 minutes walk from the ferry terminal at Pallanza. The good news is that the hotel has direct lake frontage and the road outside which used to be very busy with traffic is now only one way, resulting in very wide footpaths and the remaining traffic is mainly local trips. The hotel itself has very high ceilings and wide stairwells. 3 sides of the hotel have a lake view so beware of the cheaper rooms that will be on the road side. We stayed in a suite which was a good size. Bathroom had a shower and bath. There was also a magnifying mirror- appreciated by my wife! We experienced no annoying plumbing noises during the night and had un interrupted sleep on each of our 3 nights. Dining. The main dining room is a large square room with approx 30 tables and faces onto the lake. To be honest, we found it to be characterless, but of course this depends on your own preferences. Breakfast was OK. Usual continental breakfast items, scrambled egg, boiled egg and bacon available but a lot of the time, the pre prepared eggs were only luke warm. The hotel does appear to have a good chef and the evening dining menu looked quite interesting. Hotel has indoor pool only. Parking was plentiful and free. We found all the staff to be very good. Hotel is a good location to be able to visit the famous Borromean family islands, in this part of the lake.

on first impression this is a lovely old world hotel exquisitely appointed - vintage furniture art and gracious manner. there the pleasure ends. the room we were assigned (which we have now learned is fairly typical) leaves much to be desired. first the air conditioning did not work appropriately - the only way to adjust the temperature is to call the concierge! the sink has only boiling hot water - no one so far has been able to fix this problem - therefore there is no water to drink unless you love boiling water!!! the restaurant is over priced. the breakfast, however, was quite nice in a room with a wonderful panoramic view of the lake. by the way, the outer porch deck also lends wonderful lake views. so the overall impression is quite mixed. unfortunately, the room experience is so negative that it influenced one's overall impression.

This is a top quality hotel offering everything you would expect. Real comfort, super mini suite, excellent food, absolutely superb situation, lovely lakeside garden, indoor pool & gym etc. The staff ? They were all exremely friendly and very good at their jobs. But beware of large wedding parties who were inclined to take over the hotel. One while we were there went on for about three days! Also when visithing the islands avoid Sundays. Long queues

This hotel is well kept, perfectly placed with good parking, a pedestrian & bike trail reserved for only non motorists. Breakfast is included and excellent service and friendly and helpful. The only downside is it cost us 50 Euros extra to keep our Labrador dog which was not mentioned on our internet reservation form, so make sure to ask! A beautiful town with greayt restaurants & shops next to Verbania, Italy.

First impressions are that this is an impressive building in an amazing location. Public areas are well presented and appear to be well maintained, which can't be said for the rooms. Rooms are quite small and in need of a serious update. Bathroom with only a shower curtain and no recess became a swimming pool each time the shower was used. We had to resort to using towels to build a shower base. Room servicing is not a priority and occurred very late in the day, 3.30 - 4pm, in spite of sign being placed on door early mornings.
